  1. Did I miss something here? Are my facts wrong? I'm just saying that this whole thing stinks to high heaven. IBR knew months ago EXACTLY what was going to happen. Doesn't this mean anything at all to you? I do believe IBRs predictions would go hand in hand with what 400,000 or 500,000 other people in Ne thought. No offense to IBR, but fire Peterson, hire TO as AD, and hire BP as HC, isn't too hard to come up with. And I seem to remember in another thread he said he was hitting about 60%. Well I just flipped a coin 10 times. Heads Bo was coming, tails it was Martha Stewart. Heads came up 6 times out of 10, so we all know what that means. But then I didn't think Martha knew much about defense anyway. If she did she wouldn't have spent time decorating a jail cell.
  2. As much as I like Pelini, if he shows up in Lincoln today, then I don't want him. Any coach that would pick up and leave the week of the SEC Championship game is not for us. I have no problem if he leaves before the bowl game, that's done all the time. But to drop his team just days before their championship game just shouldn't be done. I know a lot of people will say who cares. But the point is, if he does it to them, he can just as easily do it to us someday when someone offers more money.
  3. Maybe. But it again doesn't change the point of my post. To say Callahan was fired from day one, when TO said he gave them benchmarks, does infer that TO lied. And I don't think that is the case.
  4. But now we're talking about what is legally required to run for office in a certain district. This is something that is done all the time. Doing what's necessary to fullfill all legal requirements should not be compared to saying one thing and doing another. Which is what some here say TO did.
  5. I agree with TO. It isn't about winning and losing, it's about how you lose. But the point is, if we would have gone 9 and 4 with a bowl win, there wouldn't have been big loses in the last four games. Instead there would have been wins. Which brings us back to, what will a prospective coach think when the last two coaches you fired were 9 and 3 and 9 and 4. I agree many feel that way. But as we've seen on the forum boards there are those vocal ones that just flat out hate the man. It is many of these people that all along have said he's gone, done deal. And IMO it is these people that can't grasp the possibility that TO may well have let Callahan stay, so they try to rationalize TOs comments as something other then they were. IMO TO has told the truth all along. He said he'd give the staff a chance, and that is what he did. He said he didn't want to hear about another coach before talking to Callahan, and I have no reason to think he's not totally honest about that either.
  6. If you feel there was no way Callahan was going to stay, no matter what happened with the rest of the games. Then there can be no other answer then TO wasn't telling the truth when he said he set benchmarks. Perhaps you could explain how saying benchmarks were set, when in fact everything was already decided is considered political correctness instead of a lie. I guess I'm just having a hard time grasping this concept that it's great to have TO as AD so we now have a man in the position with some integrity. Yet some feel it's ok if he tells a little white lie because it's in the best interest of the University. TO did say people had been contacted by a search firm. Unless you're saying TO was in direct contact with possible new coaches. But of course that would be another lie wouldn't it. Well here's what I think. I think TO was telling the truth and if Callahan would have won the last 4 or maybe even 3 of the last 4 he would have kept his job. But this doesn't go along with the idea many had that Callahan was basically fired the day Peterson was fired. So to make up for this flaw, we now say TO was being politically correct. That way we can say Callahan was fired all along, and still not call TO a liar. In other words those that for weeks have been saying Callahan is gone, can now come on and say they were right all along. And those that thought Callahan might be able to stay were wrong all along. I do have one question. As another poster pointed out if Callahan would have won out he'd have been 8 and 4. Add a bowl win and he's 9 and 4. In light of the fact we fired our last coach after a 9 and 3 season. What chance would we have to get someone decent if we fired another winning coach? I think sometimes our hate for a person gets in the way of logical judgement. Fortunately it appears TO doesn't have this problem.
  7. So you feel TO lied today when he said he set benchmarks for them. And if you don't feel he lied, then please explain to us the statement he made today.
  8. I'll take a team with 10 4 star recruits over a team with 1 four star player. But I want a coach that can get something out of his 4 star players. Otherwise it's nothing more then a waste of good players. The situation we have today is no different then Blake had at Ok. He was a great recruiter and brought in great players. But he couldn't coach them. As soon as he left Stoops came in and won a national title with the same players. There's nothing wrong with having a group of 4 star recruits, you just need a coach that can coach them. A good coach with 1 four star will probably beat the bad coach with 10 four stars. But I'd still rather be rooting for the team with the 10 four stars. Because as soon as they get a new coach, they should be able to take care of well coached teams with only 1 four star player.
  9. If Callahan won't fire his friend for the betterment of the team, then he should be an OC not a HC. And since anyone that hires head coaches can see this, odds are he won't get another shot at HC if he won't step up and do what needs to be done. Then again if Cosgrove was really a friend he'd resign at the end of the year. As for not going away from the WCO. Last week they said they were putting in a group of plays for Ganz. I don't see them putting in other pass plays, or running plays. We've seen Keller roll out so that wouldn't be different. About the only thing you could add for Ganz would be some type of QB run or run throw option. Which would be similiar to the spread. And wasn't it the Nevada game where Ganz came in, that we actually ran an option play. I seem to remember the crowd going nuts when that happened. BC will change his WCO to incorporate other plays if it means keeping his job, and if he won't, then he should be gone. I still think the key may be what we see the team do these last three games, and they may not have to win to make the difference. Last night on the Big Red warp up show TO said what he was looking for in a coach. And it seems to me the turning point may be does TO think BC can motivate the team. He said these coaches know what they're doing, but besides Xs and Os a coach has to be able to motivate the team. Right now it seems the team has again decided to play. If that continues it may well appear BC can motivate a team to play. And a new DC could do even more with the defense to motivate it to play better. I understand most want to get rid of BC and company, and what I'm saying is not what most want to hear. But I'm just trying to look at this with an open mind and not be swayed by the desire of a new coaching staff. I just think it's possible a lot of people may be disappointed at the end of the season.
  10. Maybe, but then I didn't think I'd ever see the day Callahan would allow anyone else to call plays, no matter how short that time may have been. As I said I'm not sticking up for Callahan, I don't really have a problem if he leaves. But the thread said new coach equals new offense, and I'm still not sure we'll be seeing a new coach. We may see a slight change to the offense with a different type of QB running things, but it's possible this will be with the same coach. I think many have read too much into what they think is going to happen. Or then again maybe it's just wishful thinking. Not saying I like the idea. But my prediction is, if Callahan changes things up some in these last games with a different style of QB running things, and he gets lucky and pulls off a couple wins, which is very possible if they will play the way they played in Tx. Then we just might have to get used to Callahan. I know there hasn't been any rumor as to that affect. But then rumors are usually what we want to hear, and this wouldn't necessarily be that.
  11. Even if nebraska wins, the general feeling will be negativity until Billy Bob and his jabronies are all gone. If they're gone. I think a lot of people are just so convinced that because TO is here all the coaches will be gone, that they overlook the thing they don't want to happen. And that is the fact Callahan may well convince TO that the QBs he's recruited can run an offense much like the spread, and he's willing to make changes in his offense to cover that. If he wants this job bad enough he'd do it. And there's the fact he can recruit, TO will like that. Plus add in the current recruits that may stay. TO's main thing so far has been tradition and culture. None of us will ever know how much of the lost culture was Pederson and not Callahan. It's easy to see Pederson keeping the old players away and Pederson taking down the old pictures and not putting them back up. Does anyone really think Callahan could care less about pictures on a wall. And we have to remember Callahan worked for Pedeson, so who was he to argue with Pederson about behind the scenes stuff. I'm not trying to stick up for Callahan, he's made plenty of mistakes since he's been here. But I'm just saying don't be so sure he's going to be gone at the end of the year. I can see wholesale changes on the defensive side, but TO just might give Callahan more time. That's TOs style. He gives people breaks and undestands what they're going through during the tough times. As much as we've heard from him on tradition and culture, we've probably heard twice as much about that he understands how hard it is for the coaches and their families during times like this. Don't kid yourself. How TO was treated when he was coach when things didn't go as planned will have an influence on what he does today. I think the key will be, does TO think Callahan can do it if given more time. With all the possible changes and possible loss of recruits, TO will not want this to happen again in 2 or 3 years. So I think if he feels Callahan can do it, he'll give him more time. But if he isn't sure, then make the changes now and don't mess up another recruiting class in 2 or 3 years.
  12. Here's a possibility that I doubt many have thought about. Now that Ganz will be starting, might we see a few read option runs, much like they run in the spread. If we do, we're seeing an offense TO has stated he likes. We now move to the end of the season where TO and Callahan have their talk. Look at the QBs Callahan has gone after. Witt, Lee, Freeman and Gabbert could all run the spread. Zac was a quick fix when we needed someone, and Keller just feel into our laps. But Callahan can show TO he has recruited QBs that can run the spread or some type of west coast spread hybrid. Something will have to be done about the defense, so Cosgrove and some others take the fall and move on. Callahan stays, and we save the majority of the recruits, the offense moves on to more of a spread offense, and TO sees this as a win win so he's happy. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  13. I think you're misreading Rudd's comment. When he commented on limited practice for the option is was in reply to how much they practiced for it against Ok St. Not how much they are preparing for aTm. The question was asked after the Ok St game because they burned us with the option. But they way it is written in this article it not real clear and people could think he's talking about this weeks practice. Do I think Rudd has been doing a great job these last few weeks. No. But sometimes I think we need to slow down just a bit and give them a break. If he plays bad on the field pull him. But sometimes I think we overreact by statements we read in the press. Clearly here is an example of where he's talking about what happened in the Ok St game, and people want to believe he's talking about the upcoming aTm game, so it's a good time to criticize. Maybe it's just human nature when you're not happy to try and criticize everything.
  14. Does anybody remember the press conference when they hired Callahan? I was so annoyed by BC's comment, but everybody else seemed excited about the guy and I brushed it off...hey, hes from the NFL, been to the big game, too.... BC's comment paraphrased: "Yeah, they took me through the facilities and told me about all the tradition here at Nebraska blahblahblahblahdyf*ingblah" He said they told him about the tradition?!?!!? I have a friend who moved here from AZ and he thinks we are all crazy for even caring who the AD is... maybe we are crazy but one thing I know is you can't tell someone about the tradition of football here.... they can't get it, they can soak it in after a while maybe, but they can't just be told about it..... Your born into it. Agreed. And that is why if culture and tradition were important to Pederson, then he should have made sure Callahan heard about it and kept hearing about it till some of it soaked in. But apparently that didn't happen. So it appears the dropping of our traditions should be laid at Pederson's feet. He knew better, Callahan didn't. Now we'll see if Callahan is willing to listen to TO about culture and tradition. If he does he may stay a while, but if he doesn't he out of here. The key to my post was. While most on the internet forum boards are not willing to give Callahan the chance to embrace our culture and traditions, it seems TO is. Which would go along with everything we know about TO. So that's why I said we might want to get in too big of a hurry to start the send off party, because TO is doing the firing, not those of us on the forum boards.
  15. While everyone is in a hurry to send Callahan down the road, I'm not so sure he'll be going anywhere soon. I'm pretty sure at the end of the year we'll be seeing some changes at the defensive side, but I'm not sure Callahan will be going. First off if you want to chop off heads and fire a coaching staff, you brought in the wrong AD. TO is a patient man and will not fire anyone too fast, that's just not his style. You also have to consider that back in the 70s TO was headed to Colorado to coach because he was tired of all the critics here. He will have sympathy for Callahan because he understands what he's going through, and understands that it's even worse today with radio sports talk shows and the internet. I'm convinced if we had the internet back in the 70s, TO would have never been here in the 90s for his National Titles. We'd of run him off. He will not get in a hurry to fire Callahan. Now he may ask Callahan to make some defensive changes, and if Callahan objects, then maybe they all go. But that's something that only time will tell. Secondly TO has mentioned the importance of culture and tradition. And while Callahan did make some changes, such as back off on the walk ons at first. Many of the changes that were made to back away from the old Ne. culture came from Pederson. Does anyone really think it was Callahan that said don't put up any pictures of past All Americans. That had to come from Pederson. We'll have no way of knowing just how many of the old traditions were broken by Pederson and not Callahan. But TO will know, and if Pederson is mostly to blame, then that is not a strike against Callahan. Pederson was Callahan's boss. So if Pederson said this is the way it will be, then it was up to Callahan to go along. Callahan made some mistakes up front because he didn't understand Ne football. In some cases he figured that out and changed back. And other times he didn't. The only thing we don't know is, would he have changed back other things if Pederson was not there. Also Pederson is from Ne so he knew how important tradition was. It was his job to make Callahan understand this up front. That is if the past Ne culture was important to Pederson. If it wasn't, then he just let Callahan move away without saying anything. We've found out TO likes the spread. While the spread and the WCO aren't the same, are they really that far apart. Up to this point we haven't had a QB that can run, but it does seem Callahan has recruited some and tried to recruit others that can run. Freeman comes to mind. With a running QB at the helm would our WCO end up looking a lot like a spread offense that runs the ball. It seems to me it could, and if it does, again it seems TO would be happy. I'm not saying I'm a big Callahan supporter. He's done some things that I've thought were a little weird, and I'd say I'm not going to be heartbroken if he's gone. But I think we may want to hold off ordering the booze for his going away party. Or if it's already ordered, use it during the last games this year. We may need it.
  16. He will be paying off the TO center. It also confirms other rumors that he is giving $40 MIL to school. I wasn't sure about this either but the source has been spot-on so far so I posted it. Hell he gave $50BILLION to Bill Gates so who knows. Also, it is a redemption for TO and Solich who mean a lot to him. As for Buffet. Today on the radio they said KETV was running a story that Buffet said no he did not give any money. Now I wouldn't be surprised if some money came from Sokol, but it appears the Buffet rumor is just a rumor. But then I suppose KETV could be running a story that is incorrect. Anything is possible. I would seriously doubt that Buffet is going to go public right now and say he gave $$ to fire people. He made billions being smart, not a moron who would make Perlman look like he can be bought. I think we might see in 6-12 months the TO center isn't in the red anymore and maybe with no publicity or fanfair. I agree Buffet wouldn't go public to say he gave money to fire people. With TO back it will be paid for in 6 to 12 months one way or the other. The Omaha money coming back would take care of that. And yes I agree that many things go on behind closed doors that we never know about. Which is what makes a rumor, a rumor.

  18. No. He's a know-it-all NFL guy. He can't even say Dr. Tom's name in a press conference. They've spoken two or three times in 4 years. Callahan bristles at the name of Dr. Tom. That's why Callahan will QUIT within the next 15 days and leave his assistants out to dry. Egomaniac and with no real reason to be. I think your wrong there and that he does care about how this will work out for everyone. Every HC knows that he is not only the one to put bread on the table for his family but also for the families of all those on his staff. No HC would ever wish to leave his guys out to dry, I think he is trying to play this out the best way possible and that he has/will talk to TO and get an understanding that what is best is best but lets not ruin peoples lives anymore than they have too. I don't see TO not being a fair man to everyone on the staff. As far as Cally talking to TO about football related issues I think that would be a mistake. If Cally talks to TO itll be mistaken as, OH cally cant do it by himself and needs TO's crutch. But if Cally doesn't talk to TO its, Cally is alienating the sanctaty of Husker football. Its a no win situation that he is in and I really hope that everything can be done in a professional manner and with due respect to everyone involved. I tend to agree, I think both sides will handle this professionally. I'm always amsused so many feel TO and Callahan haven't spoken much so they must not get along. It seems this doesn't account for Pederson and his wish to cut the old ties. That wasn't necessarily Callahan's idea. At least no one on a forum message board knows that one for sure. No one will ever know how much of the old way being cut was Pederson's idea, and not Callahans. I'm not trying to defend Callahan, but Pederson was his boss, and if he wanted things to go a certain way, Callahan would have to follow. We also have to consider that TO is doing for Callahan and Solich the same thing Devany did for him, and that is stay in the background so the coach doesn't always have to look over his shoulder. Everyone's right TO has class. Class enough to stay away unless asked, and no one knows if Callahan didn't ask, or Callahan understood Pederson didn't want him to ask. All this being said I think Callahan will leave because he is in a no win situation. If his team loses then it's lost, and even if his team wins, he's still loses. He could have a National Championship team in a couple years and still lose. He'd lose because his legacy would be that it took TO to bail him out and make him a winner. No coach would want that for a legacy. Not Callahan, not Solich, and not Bo. So I think Callahan leaves rather then have his legacy be, it took TO to save his butt.
  19. Ruud is a piece of crap on the field and the fact that he didn't take the lead on this blackshirts thing is testimony he's a piece of crap in the locker room too...and he's supposed to be a leader on this team...no wonder its gone to the toilet. Bo Ruud is a lesson to Nebraska football that legacy should have nothing to do with someone being on this football team because that is the ONLY reason he plays on this team In light of the fact everyone feels Callahan threw tradition and Ne legacy out the window when he came. It doesn't make sense that Ruud is playing because of his name. Is he playing up to his potential? Probably not. Is he a great linebacker? Probably not. But I have a feeling he may be the best we got right now at his postion, so that's why he plays. That being said, it would be nice if he could make more then 2 assisted tackles in a game. Which is one more then Octavian got in the last game. As far as leadership, you can watch him talk and see he's no leader. He's too soft spoken to be a vocal leader. He's even said in an interview he's not that type of person.
  20. On the timing of the decision to fire Pederson and hire TO. I'm thinking it may go back a bit farther then Thur of last week. It's well known that because of Pederson they were not getting the big donations they need from Omaha. It seems to me with TO as AD that improves, and the whole thing just happens to come down a few days after TO is crowned King of Aksarben. Oh, and did anyone notice this is the first time in the 111 year history of Aksarben that the King and Queen are from outside of Omaha. Gee the timing there sure worked out nice. I'm thinking this has been in the works for a while. Which is fine by me, just as long as things get turned around.
  21. I don't see him firing Callahan if he is going to be the interm AD. It wouldn't make sense for him to fire and hire a new coach and then have another person come in as AD later. It wouldn't be fair to the new AD to have TO make the hire and then tell him to live with it. I can see Cosgrove gone and other changes, but if TO is here for 15 to 18 months until a new AD takes over, then it only makes sense to leave Callahan in place so the new AD can make the changes he wants when he takes over. Now it is possible TO and the new AD can work it out after the end of the season and jointly agree on a new coach after the first of the year, but before new recruits sign. And here's one other thing to think about. If you were going to hire someone to come in and start chopping off heads, would you hire TO? If anything he has always been the type to give someone another chance. I'd think TO would be the last person you'd bring in if you need someone to fire people, it's just not his style. I assume you can't be serious. I want the coaches out as much as anyone. But what type of signal would it be to possible new AD that their head coach has already been picked for them. Could we pick a new AD in the next month and he and TO sit down together to pick a new coach, yes that's possible. But to pick a new head coach without first hiring a new full time AD and getting his input doesn't make sense. It puts us right back where Pederson didn't like Solich because Solich wasn't his pick. Well, Remington is the obvious choice for permanent AD and he will be working with TO so he will have a say. Also, plenty of ADs take new jobs where the coaches are already in place. I could see that system working out and getting rid of the coaches quickly, and if that plan is already in place then things could move smoothly. As for ADs coming in with exsisting coaches in place. That's usually with coaches that have been with the program for quite a while. You don't see a coach being hired less then a year before the AD is hired. At least you don't see that very often. Hopefully you're right with what you've posted, because it looks like the best situation to me.

  24. I wouldn't be so sure. It seems many want TO to take the AD job at least on an interm basis, say 18 months. If that is the case I do not see him firing Callahan. Pushing for Cosgrove and others to go maybe, but not Callahan. TO would not fire and then hire a new coach knowing a new AD would be coming in within a year or so. If TO takes the job either on an interm or permanent basis I feel he'll give Callahan this year and maybe next year with some staff changes. It was SP that kept TO out of the mix not Callahan. With SP gone TO and CAllahan may get along well, who knows. Sometimes we have to be careful what we ask for, we just might get it.
