  1. One has an award named after him and is a thougthful, intelligent humanitarian. The other is a double murderer...............ALLEGEDLY.
  2. Okay, now I've shown you that an injury to a key back can effect a rushing game in negative ways and that is all beyond anything a OL or OC can do...you can make all the fun you want about world beaters played by ISU in 04 but the majority of them were the same ones that the Huskers played with less success. Now let's handle this...in singing the praises of Watson you add this in your quote for, I assume, emphasis: Colorado’s 2004 team produced a 1,000-yard rusher and a 2,000-yard passer for just the second time in school history. In 2005, Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt re-wrote the CU record book under Watson’s guidance. Klatt finished his Buff career as the holder of 44 school records, including most career pass completions, attempts and passing yards. But, then you tell me this: If you can't look at the stats what can you look at? Rushing yards a game have nothing to do with the passing stats that Meyer and Blthye milked the first few years until they hit their peaks and teams figured them out. I'm maybe missing something here but it looks to me like Barney, with his 1000-yard rusher and 2000-yard passer (with Meier rewriting the ISU record book under Barney's guidance...along with all that other crap) and Watson are pretty much equal as far as credentials are concerned... Did Barney steal your girlfriend or something or did an ISU guy kick sand in your face cuz I'm sensing a lot of hate here.... Watsons resume has Division titles(5 if you are counting) and a Conference Title. Barney's has well................................he helped Brett Meyer do good for 2 years. Nope Barney didn't steal my girlfriend and no an ISU guy didn't kick sand in my face. (My dislike for everything ISU comes from the horrible fans I encountered the times that I made the trip to that wonderful staduim, not just for NU games either) I don't think he is a good coach and his resume backs up what I believe. Like I have stated a number of times if he wasn't a Nebraska guy he wouldn't have this job he wouldn't have had it the first time and would not be at any program comparable to Nebraska. Also people around here wouldn't be so happy to jump to his defense if he hadn't played here. Point blank end of discussion. As far as Stevie Hicks being a difference maker you will never convince me that he was. I saw him play enough times to realize that Solich had it right by telling him he should be a Linebacker. For the record my wife went to ISU and I attended some really cool parties in Ames. Now to 04 I never once threw out the NU stats from that season or talked up that team (5-6). I was saying that Hicks got the bulk of his yards in that career year against crappy teams INCLUDING the Huskers. And I'm spent. Weren't you the one who said that there should be no comparision between NU the like of Kansas and Mizzou, yet you want to compare a coaches time at ISU and his time during an NU rebuilding process to someone else. NU was 10-3 his first season here, and as another poster pointed out, he led a nice turn around at ISU with success and numbers that they have never had before. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know if he is the right guy for the job, but he has to re-program 4 years of piss-poor coaching and bad habits. He is also saddled by a crappy system that Watson and Callahan ran. That can't be undone in 2 games. Give the guy a year or two. Is it an area for concern, yes. Should we boot the guy after 2 games....no.
  3. I heard Tim Brown on Big Sports 590 last year and his paints a completely different picture of what happened in Oakland. It seems that Calllllllahan wanted to leave but didn't want to quit, so he put the team in every bad position he could so that he would be fired and get the remainder of his contract. Sound familiar? Believe what you want, but Calllllllahan has a history of wrecking good teams that his is the head coach of. It took him 2 years in Oakland and 4 years here, so any Husker fan should have cared what he did in Oakland, because he did something similar here.
  4. Yea, they are, but thanks for ignoring the rest of my points. See above for examples of hypocrisy. The comparison between Bo and Elmo is bunk, totally different situations. I don't have a problem if they get alot of playing time on special teams. My problem with Calllllllahan was that he would burn a redshirt year for these guys and only give them meaningless mop-up duty in the first 2 or 3 games and not play them the rest of the year. Guys such as Paul and Holt have made mention of that. I do have a problem with Bo not wearing Husker gear when he is at press conferences, Big Red Breakfast, and on the Big Red Coaches show. If he is the head coach, wear the gear when you are representing the team. I don't necessarily wish Callahan was coach, but I wish he had been treated in the same regard as Pelini. Most were up his ass from day 1. I disagree. Most were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, give him his 4-6 years, but it didn't work out. Forget what happened 9 months ago? Forget about Tom Osborne having his hand up his ass moving his lips and making him say the right things? No, I didn't forget about that. Does he really embrace the tradition? Do you know that this isn't a bunch of lip service? So many are pinning the hopes of Husker Nation and a return to glory on Pelini, a man who has not stayed in one place for more than 3 years, a man who has less ties to this program than Callahan did(Callahan was personally recommended by the Bobfather Jr, Alvarez, his mentor). Will Pelini be successful? Lord, I hope so. If he is, will he stay? There isn't much to indicate he will, but maybe he will. Wanna talk hypocrisy "Hand up his ass?" Were you asleep the previous 4 years? The only thing Bo ever said negative about NU had to do with SP/BC and the treatment/firing of Frank and his last staff. He has always said good things about NU, our fans, and our tradition. I guess you forget about Callllllahan and the "Crusty old f@%k" and saying how we (NU fans) should go get lost in the Sandhills while he gets a real newspaper, the NY Times. Personally, I was never big on Alvarez or his opinion. Nobody "knows" if it is lip service, but Bo had it real good at LSU. He easily could have stayed there and hung on, got a big contract while he waited for another "bigger" job to come his way. He has always said how much he enjoyed his time in Lincoln, and no one has any reason to believe that to be a lie. IMO, if he does as well as I hope he does at NU, the only place I can see him leaving for is his alma-matter AN Ohio St. University, and I could understand that.
  5. Yeah, lets not talk about NU football at all. Just shut down all radio talk shows and fan websites. That would be fun.
  6. I completely agree. It's sickening how hypocritical Husker Nation is. The situations are totally different. Calllllllahan had plenty of supporters through thick and thin up until it totally fell apart last year. Hell, there are plenty who still support him and wish he were still coach (ahem). We have been through 6 straight up and down years, not 2 as before BC. We got better the year prior to BC, while the last 4 years have been a series of peaks and valleys (mostly valleys) with last year being a disaster. The landscape has changed, expectations have been lowered thanks to SP/BC. Oh, and you all forget, Bo came in and said the right things. He embraces NU and its tradition. He didn't pull a SP/BC and try to forget about the past and start his own traditions and insult Husker Nation.
  7. Yeah his missed tackle is how Turner got hurt! Hold on, did you just blame Turner's injury on Asante? He was the one who whiffed on a tackle and leg whipped Turner on that play when Turner was injured. I'm not saying its his FAULT, I'm just saying....
  8. The D seems to play with fire, but I think what has alot of people concerned is that the running game should have been dominant or at least present against 2 mediocre opponents, but it wasn't. If the running game averaged 200 yards or 5 ypc in these games, they wouldn't have been as close as they were. Most of us thought that the oline would be the strength of the team, but it hasn't been. I think that it is a definite concern right now.
  9. After 2 games against lower Divison 1 schools and what happened last year, do you really believe this statement? I know that most of us were hoping that Calllllllahan would restock the shelves ala John Blake but this just isn't true. He brought in less talent than Solich. At least some of Frank's kids play in the NFL and I don't think that many of Calllllllahan's kids will. Brought in less talent than Solich? Are you serious? Solich was an EPICLY horrid recruiter. Just flat horrid. Do you think he got fired because he was a bad coach (he was not) or the talent had regressed so badly at the point he was fired? He refused to even bring recruits in during the season as he thought it would take away the coaches focus from the game. Our in-depth recruiting of players did not even start until December. Essentially, for months during the season our coaches twiddled their thumbs with recruits. You can literally count on your hands the guys Solich went into another state to pull out that had an actual impact on this program. The majority of 'players' he recruited we could have landed with you or I as the coach since they were from Nebraska. If you want to count Carriker (who had family from Nebraska) I may even let you. But guys like Fonoti, Lord, Demorrio, Fabian, Groce, the Bullocks' and Ross were the essentially the only out of state players who had a significant impact on this program over the Solich years. With Texas, Colorado and Missouri in close proximity, that's all we could do? I'm not bragging about Solich's players and his recruiting prowess, but do you see any difference makers that Billlllll Calllllllahan brought in? Is the talent level THAT much better than it was in 2003? I agree with skersfan, I just don't see it.
  10. You can't say "look at the last 2 guys he worked for." As we can see now, the Solich firing was a huge mistake, and McCarney was the best coach in ISU history. You also can't compare what Barney did at ISU and what he has done anywhere else, it's apples to oranges. I've always liked the guy, but we need more results. I'm not sold on him. Maybe we should look at the offensive coordinator, that is one guy that never should have kept his job. His offensives were ok at best at CU. The fact is that the last 2 coaches he worked for got fired. Also if he was such a hot coach how come he didn't land a better gig then ISU after losing his job here and then after getting the boot for the 2nd time in a row how come he had to have a buddy throw him a bone to get the job here? Barney's history equals Cosgroves history with less sucess. Average at best. Here is some information on Watson. Notice the 4 North Titles and 1 Conference title. He doesn't coach the line he calls the plays and coaches the QB's. Line play is all on Barney and Bo not on Watson. I guess you could say the same thing about Watson that you do about Cotton. Both of the last 2 guys he has worked for have got fired. Does that make him a bad coach? I'm by no means supporting Cotton blindly but I think that he needs a couple of years to see what he can do and to get players that fit his system. You can't undue what has been done in the last 4 years overnight. I do see a huge red flag with the way the offensive line plays, but is he hindered by bad schemes and play calling, much like Wagner was with Calllllllahan? How can line play be on Bo but not Watson? Isn't Watson the OC? Bo isn't calling their plays. In reference to Watson, 2001 was the only year that he had a top 20 offense at CU. I think that the rest of the years his offenses were in the 40's to the 60's. As for the 4 North titles and 1 Big 12 title, did he not have a defense that helped CU win those? Just checking.
  11. Thats a trap I have fallen into time and time again. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I just go, have a good time, and let her be pissy.
  12. Joba was a Jr. and Dorn a Sr. Srs normally have less bargaining power when it comes to playing pro ball.
  13. You're kidding! There's no way they'd say stuff like that. You must be lying! Trust in Bo and he will lead the way brethren. You should all know better!! It could be worse, we could still have your boy Calllllllahan as HC. This game would have been a loss.
  14. 1. I have no idea how Murillo and Asante ever got schollies. I can't remember 2 worse DBs. Not only can Asante not tackle or cover, he takes out our starting DE for the year. 2. Is it scheme, coaching, or lack of talent, but the O-line play is terrible. 3. Ganz still makes too many bonehead plays. 4. I understand keeping a little bit of continuity with last years staff, but I really hope that Watson gets another job offer after this year. His offense doesn't look any different than last years, and that isn't good. It would be nice to join the 21st century and have a spread option offense. This tired Weak Coast Offense is sad to watch. 5. The penalties and lack of concentration are disheartening. I was hoping that Bo would be able to correct this, but maybe 4 years of bad coaching and bad habits are hard to break. 6. Overall lack of talent. Like the entire Pederson/Calllllllahan era, I think were were sold a bill of goods. If the talent really is there, it would show in games like this. This team is worse off than they were 4 years ago in terms of talent, imo. 7. At least the team plays with speed and intensity, unlike last year. 8. The defensive staff has shown the ability to make good calls and make adjustments, which is an upgrade from the last 4 years. The offensive can at least take what they are given at times, but this system is boring and predictable. Hoping for improvements for next week.
  15. Bo himself said it was the coaches fault in his post game... That in itself is better than last year and makes you think it might get addressed. That IS new Over the last 4 years, I thought is was ALWAYS due to a lack of execution, not coaching or scheme. Funny how things change.

  18. Lucky was overrated and overhyped, that is why a guy with 1700 total yards last year is barely on the national radar. Most of his yards came either receiving the ball, or against lower lever competition. The writing is on the wall, if he isn't in space he gets nothing. If he gets touched, he falls down. Expanding on what another poster wrote, he is best being a check-off back who catches swing passes.
  19. All I know is that we have been told that this is the deepest, most talented position on the team, yet they look like crap. It is coaching? Is it overall lack of talent? Is it a piss poor offensive scheme? Is it a hangover from the last 4 years? I'm not sure, but it is a definite concern.
  20. Yes, because what has gone on the last 4 years worked so well. Personally, I like a coach who wants his team to play with heart and intensity, not play grab ass.
  21. Say all you want about Callahan. He was a poor fit in ways for our program, but he's still a good coach. I don't know how you can say he is a good coach when he turned two good football programs (Oakland, NU) into bad teams. He may know his X's and O's on paper, but he can't seem to get it to work on the field nor relate it to his players. Sort of the "Conan O'brien" of Coaching. Can write fairly well for other commedians, but can't deliver (or be funny) on their own. I would say that sh!t-canning 2 outstanding teams in 6 short years put that ill-conceived idea to rest.
  22. First, TO almost never had top recruiting classes. When addressing the Senior class of '94 (won the National Championship but was rated in the 30's or 40's) TO said that "This was the best we could do. TO was just better at assessing talent and getting the most out of his players than almost any coach I can think of. Second, Calllllllahan's offense wasn't all that great. It was just ok at best the first 3 1/2 seasons, and never really came around until Watson was able to take more control of the system, and we had a qb who had been in the system for 4 years.
  23. I disagree. Calllllllahan got Pederson fired, that was good. Are you somehow related to Calllllllahan, or are you Sean Callahan undercover?
