  1. Goody for USC...maybe someday they can schedule some really tough games like...oh...Troy (who played Arkansas, Florida and Oklahoma State in their first three weeks this year and have managed to go through the year 9-3, losing only to ranked BCS teams) or what about Western Michigan (who opened play with West Virginia, Indiana and Missouri). Sure, they lost to all three teams but I didn't see USC putting any of these guys on their schedule. So, what makes USC a shining example of anything? They are the top team in a weak conference...they can get recruits because they are in LA. They get lots of media coverage because they are so close to where the media coverage originates from. They can schedule harder non-conference games because the teams IN the conference are so pathetic that playing a couple of hard ones in the pre-season isn't going to hurt your bowl chances. Take USC and put it in Wyoming then lets hear you shooting your mouth off about how great your recruiting is. While we're at it, how many ranked teams has USC played this year? As many as Nebraska has? I don't think so. Nebraksa has more ranked teams in it's conference than USC has played this year. If you ask me...those "creampuff" opponents like Troy, Akron or East Carolina have a lot more balls than USC does. Did I mention I absolutely can't stand USC?
  2. The funniest thing about that last series was that Iowa was actually pretty decent in 2002-2004, and probably would have trounced us if we had played. Timing is everything! They were only "good" by Big 10 standards...any Big 12 school would have trounced them.
  3. A little history on your idea of a Nebraska/Iowa series. Nebraska has played Iowa 6 times during non-conference schedule games. Apparently they had a four year deal 1979-1982 and another two year contract for 1999-2000. Nebraska came out 5-1 during that series outscoring Iowa 214 to 58. 1979 - NU 24 - Iowa 21 1980 - NU 57 - Iowa 0 1981 - NU 7 - Iowa 10 1982 - NU 42 - Iowa 7 1999 - NU 42 - Iowa 7 2000 - NU 42 - Iowa 13 While you might think a Nebraska/Iowa series would be a good deal, I'm sure you'll find that most of Hawkeye Nation will disagree with you for obvious reasons, the first and foremost being that they have to use those non-conference games to rack up some easy wins over football powerhouses like Akron and Northwest Missouri State if they hope to scrape over the ridiculously low 6-6 benchmark of Bowl eligibility.
  4. I bet Barry Switzer sneaks over from the kiddie table and steals TO's salt...
  5. Two words - Appalachia State Oops...two more words - Ball State.... As for Iowa dropping Iowa State until they do something positive with their program...you might want to consider the fact that ISU routinely thumps Iowa in their annual meeting Perhaps you should send your emails to UNI. I'm sure they would look forward to the challenge.
  6. I'm pretty sure that witty Cyclone fan from Iowa got all HUGE references removed...
  7. Hehehehe... Hey...at least they let Chizek in the door. When McCarney made recruiting trips people used to lock up the wife, kids and dog then gather in the town square with torches and pitchforks... TO should stop in Ames and talk up Barney Cotton's kid...6' 6", 230 lbs, good hands....he's going to make somebody a helluva TE. If you can't talk a kid out of a commitment to Louisville, you don't deserve to go on recruiting trips. We'd snap him up over here but he's still kind of ticked about us canning his dad right before his senior year of high school...
  8. So? I'll take the 7 in the bar over the 10 any day. They put out a hell of a lot quicker, cost me a lot less money and they don't nag or complain afterwards.
  9. Bah...I just heard from an ISU staffer that they had to reschedule Chizek's recruiting visit this Friday to Harlan because *gasp* Tom Osborne!!! is coming to visit! So much for stealing Hoch....
  10. The more guys you have...the more guys you can hit. The more guys you hit...the tougher you get. Makes perfect sense to me.
  11. wow, that is some sh#t cyclone. well said and true. we need that killer attitude back in the D. How can you say something like this, it is just retarded. You might not mean this but the way you are wording your statement about recruiting, you sound like you are saying we should not recruit a player if rivals gives this guy 4 or 5 stars. Are you saying we should take away the scholarship offers to guys like Baker Steinkuhler, Simi Kuli, or Will Compton just because rivals ranks these guys as 4 and 5 star players. Also do you think we should have never offered guys like Demario Williams(5 stars), Fabian Washington(4 stars) or Jay Moore(4 stars) just because rivals gave these guys alot of stars. A few other guys that come to mind that rivals rated high, and they played great at Nebraska, were Barrett Ruud, Cory Ross, Josh and Daniel Bullocks, Toniu Fonoti, Trevor Johnson and the list could go on forever. So just because we have gotten a few guys lately who are rated high but did not pan out(Andre Jones, Harrison Beck, Justin Tomerlin, Leon Jackson) this doesnt mean we should stop recruiting highly rated kids. We just need highly rated kids that fit our system, and BC probably put a little to mush emphasis on a kids talent and not enough on their character. How Nebraska coaches should recruit is they should go out and find the most talented players that fit the Nebraska mold. They need to look at the most talented kids, and then when they find these kids they need to start evaluating them and determine which of these top athletes are hard working kids, that are coachable, and have desire to play the game. After evaluating the top athletes in the country(4 and 5 stars), then start looking for kids that are flying under the radar, who have potential and once again fit the hard working, Nebraska mold. *I would also like to say that before NU starts looking all over the nation for players they first need to get all the great athletes in the state of Nebraska to come to NU and then venture all over the country to find kids. I mean Iowa State beat us in 2004 and 3 of their best players were all from Nebraska(Stevie Hicks-RB, Jon Davis-WR, and Nick Leaders-DL). All these guys started and played well against NU that year. So lets get kids with the most talent, and the most character possible. The most talent and character possible based on the number of stars Rivals gives them? My ass...who are those experts at Rivals anyway and who are they to be able to determine who the best recruits are? They're number crunchers...bean counters. Where's the ranking for determination? Where's the number for pride? Where's the calculation that says how quick somebody is going to get up after they get their butt kicked on the field a couple of times? Without looking I can almost be certain that Rivals would have ranked Callahan as a five star coach just based on the numbers. Nebraska was always capable at finding those lower tier recruits that may not be the most gifted athletes...but they had the heart and work ethic that made them play over their heads because they were proud of being a part of Husker football. That's something that you can't get off a web site.
  12. Please don't use words I don't know the meaning of. Lexicon was Superman's arch enemy wasn't he? I think Gene Hackman played him in the movies.
  13. Too bad...West Virginia's uniforms hurt my eyes...Anyway, didn't the NCAA pass some rule this year prohibiting two teams from states where cousins are allowed to marry from playing in the BCS Championship Game?
  14. If ISU is any yardstick I can honestly say we don't recruit em based on cognitive thought...
  15. Nope...best linebacking group ever was Terrio, Harper and Johnson with Terrio being the lightest at around 215 lbs. These guys wrecked people. Okay okay...Johnson was listed as D-Line....but he was a Randy White type of player who could play both spots.
  16. Bah...all the talk about five-star recruits is all crap anyway. I'd much rather concentrate on lower tier recruits who have the drive and desire to play for Nebraska than a pampered athlete who "chose" us over other schools and who may or may not pan out. Any low tier recruit (or walk-on for that matter) with proper coaching and burning desire is perfectly able to break the leg of any five star recruit by pile driving them into the turf on any given Saturday.
  17. the OWH had an article back in the 70's about the "Great Nebraska Sea". I remember this only because Lincoln will be under approximately 100 feet of water and I will own beachfront property here in central Iowa...so you might not want to wish for that global warming too much. Play to the strengths you already have for your recruiting advantages. Remind them southern boys that all women look the same in a parka and a ski mask.
  18. I think you forgot to put a number in this space...I'm sure it was just an oversight though huh?
  19. I was going to say that about the baseball team...they are always pretty decent. And...if you want some entertainment during the off-season, tune in for some ISU basketball games. Our guys make every game seem like a circus....
  20. ISU has one of the easiest schedules out there for 2008 to go along with all the returning starters. God knows the schedule in 07 made the Baatan Death March look tame so it's not like we don't deserve it.... I'm thinking Big 12 North Champion...
  21. The day the Huskers hired Callahan was the day I quit paying real close attention to the program. I knew he was going to bring in his West Coast crap and take the must punishing run game in college football and dump it for some trendy throw the ball all the time nonsense. Solich was all belief with no science but like any good preacher, he had faith going for him. Callahan was all science with no belief.
  22. Siepe's been saying he's one of the front runners for a couple of weeks now.
