  1. We're not going to let this devolve into personal attacks. AustinHuskr, you've been warned often enough to knock this off. No more warnings.
  2. Considering the fact that he told the coaches he didn't want to redshirt DESPITE being told the sober reality of how many touches he was going to get, he has only himself to be upset at.

I wouldn't call instant reactions in the game thread the most reliable gauges of common opinion.
  4. Landlord, I would kill to have that sparse of a beard. I could grow a more dense beard than that from now to 11/30/11. I hate that my beard is thick. It's very annoying.
  5. Totally disagree. Case in point. 83 Orange Bowl. The 2 pt conversion attempt failed, but it was not the wrong call. I see good play calls that don't work quite often and laughable playcalls that work sometimes. The ubiquitous term "armchair quarterback" disagrees with you. The whole reason that term exists is the second-guessing nature of the American sportsman. One anecdotal example doesn't obviate a widespread trend. And to be clear, I'm not saying those armchair quarterbacks are right. Just that they'll second-guess whatever call is made if it doesn't work. Same goes for the guys in the booth, who often dub OC's geniuses or fools depending on the success of the play - after the fact.

Actually, I think a lot of people are calling him out for that. I was simply using that one has an example of why the consistency of passes locations does have an impact. You've said that before, and I'm just not seeing those posts. Where is the hue and cry over Bell's diving miss?
  7. That's Lee's Chicken. I think they opened another restaurant at 70th & O, but that's since closed and is now Mazatlan. My wife is a life-long Lincoln resident and won't go to Lee's, so I've never been there. To keep this thread from being completely derailed, my teams are: CFB: Huskers CBB: Huskers NFL: Bears NBA: Bulls MLB: Cubs NHL: Blackhawks

Bell's dive is the exception to the drops, not the rule. Nobody is calling him out for not making that catch.
  9. The "right call" is often determined after the fact, as is the "wrong call." If it works the OC is a genius. If not, he's the goat.

The consistency argument removes blame from the guy not catching the ball in his hands.
  11. Definitely agree with what you're saying. Just dancing around both sides of the coin, I guess.
  12. Yeah, we know. Read the thread.
  13. That doesn't make sense. If you're getting beat consistently between the tackles, your best bet is to run between the tackles for a must-have first down?
  14. Or you have little confidence in your undersized Center and your sophomore Tackles....
  15. It's weird that Michigan doesn't have a stronger web presence among their fans. No major message boards, very few folks posting here. With all their alumni, you'd think the web would be crawling with them.

  16. They posted a pic of the infamous Black Helmet today.
  17. Those plays to the outside on short yardage are only "bad" when they don't work. If they work, they're genius. Witness Missouri's TD on fourth-and-one last year. When the defense sells out on the short-yardage play you have opportunities outside. Our problem is that we're not always getting that hat-on-hat push to shove these guys back from the LOS, so our success rate at short-yardage isn't great between the tackles. Knowing that we tend to go to "trickeration" more often than we probably should, and the defense isn't as surprised by it since it's a known tendency. That's what makes football so great - it's a chess match, not just raw strength fighting in the trenches. It's cerebral and physical at the same time.
  18. Definitely agree with the bold. He's had a couple of poorly-called games. A few, actually. But overall, I think he's doing very well for a guy running a new scheme as a first-time OC. It'll be interesting to see what this offense does next year. If it improves much, and the defense rounds into form earlier, we should be a pretty formidable team. But most of the way through Year One of the Tim Beck Experiment, I'm cautiously optimistic about where we're headed.

The consistent ball theory is bunk.

Hmm... Weren't people saying this at the beginning of this season when he was dropping passes left and right? Season's almost over, he's a senior, it's now or never. Well, you could continue to hope for the best or you could just throw a good guy under the bus. I'll continue to hope for the best.
  21. Is this opposite day? How did you get "poison" from what he said?
  22. I'll give him props this year. Last year I don't think we would have said the same thing. He's grown a lot and taken to heart the talk the coaches had with him after spring ball. He thought he had arrived last year. He didn't realize the work had just started. Last year was probably a really good wake-up call for him.

You will not find a better guy on the team than Kinnie. Not Rex, not Yoshi, nobody. BK is a good dude, the kind of guy you want on the team. He doesn't "showboat" any more than several of the guys on defense or some of the players we've had in the past. He's not vainglorious, and he's not a "problem child." He's had some drops. They're eating him up more than they're bothering us. We want BK on this team, and we need him in the starting lineup. He'll fix the drops. He's not a mediocre receiver. Remember all the threads four games ago about how Martinez "wasn't a QB" or how he should/could/would transfer? He clicked, he's doing well, and the criticisms have largely gone away. The same thing could happen for Kinnie. Don't throw the guy off the island for some bad plays. Time may come when we're singing the praises of Brandon Kinnie's game-winning catch.
  24. Ask Yoshi about playing banged up. Dude is a warrior. Gives his heart and soul for his teammates.
