  1. The local press is all over Twitter talking about cancellation, forfeiture, etc. I really don't see it happening. But I would understand if they did. This is one of the most horrifying scandals in the history of sports. We're in OJ territory here, probably beyond.
  2. It's looking entirely possible, in the wake of the cancellation of the JoePa presser, that PSU may be announcing his "retirement" in the next couple of days.
  3. The "Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy" seems a little inappropriately named, doesn't it? I would imagine this gets changed in the wake of all of this.
  4. I'm not debating whether Obama does or does not have character. I'm making a comment on the rhetoric being used. Entirely different subject.
  5. Go get your Danny Woodhead children's inspirational book. http://deadspin.com/5857448/

  6. How does the PSU situation affect your feelings about the B1G? This clearly belongs in the Big Ten forum. Further, it is entirely based on the Sandusky situation. Why not just tack it into the ongoing discussion? I'll let it stand on its own, but it's going into the appropriate forum (not Husker Football), and if it turns into a rehash of the other thread, we're just going to continue the discussion in there.
  7. You cannot assassinate what is not there. So someone you disagree with politically has NO character? Overstate much? This is exactly the kind of political rhetoric which convinced me to become Independent. Yikes.
  8. All I know is, they have cell phones just like everyone else. I'm sure they have codes and signals and yadda yadda yadda. I'm not a member of al Qaeda, so I can't fully comment. I'm just speaking from what I think is rational.
  9. My comment of "Wake the F up" was metaphoric, of course. Perhaps that shout could be suspending her for the rest of the season. Or it could be kicking her entirely off the team. I wouldn't argue with either, but both actions would be a "Wake the F up" move. That's what I was getting at. Sam McKewon just tweeted that Lauren is going to try to enter a diversion program, which makes a ton of sense. Speaking purely as a criminal matter, Lauren is not the kind of person we need to protect society from. She just needs to grow up. Sam, via Twitter: Lauren Cook's attorney having 11:00 a.m. presser. She's been charged with a felony. But she will try to be accepted to a diversion program.
  10. Yep. I'm surprised and not surprised. I'm not surprised because of the outstanding speeding tickets, the suspended license, and leaving the scene. I mean... that's hard to argue with. I'm surprised because Lauren Cook is not the kind of person we need behind bars. Still a long way to go from here to conviction and sentencing, so I doubt she's ever sent to hard time. Here's a blurb from the LJS:
  11. Ever since we coined that name, many groups different have either claimed that name or were given that name. They share a general ideology and perhaps share some sources for funding and weapons, but they are not the same group. Just like Hezbollah, there are many groups with that name. And the sun rises in the east, but that doesn't answer my question. The statement was that we made an error by announcing bin Laden's death. This begs the question, who in bin Laden's organization have we missed out on capturing/killing because we announced his death?
  12. It's pretty much all downhill from 26. Sorry, man. Try to enjoy your birthday, despite being over the hill.
  13. We are a fun, crazy, mixed-up bunch, aren't we? But despite our peccadilloes, we're a pretty good group.
  14. I'm curious what the plan of the Occupiers is when the snow starts falling. New York City isn't exactly an hospitable place to camp out during blizzards.
  15. Definitely. We don't stop being our true selves when we enter the stadium, or sit down in front of the TV.
  16. The same can be said of this forum. There is a culture to HuskerBoard that is not for everyone. If it's not for you, there are several other forums out there for you to choose from.
  17. Not so much. Al Qaeda knew bin Laden was dead. The major targets - the guys we really wanted - were all on the run within 24 hours of his death. The president announcing his death on TV isn't what alerted them, their own communication structure alerted them. Despite that, we've already bagged how many major players? A dozen? Who is running al Qaeda now? Who are the targets that we haven't captured/killed?
  18. it is about expectations and potential. we underachieve, so we are like the parents taking away the trans when the child gets a 'd' in algebra even though his/her itbs test has him/her in the 90 percentile. those who are upset are not out of line. Ah, the angst of expectations. A common theme:
  19. Didn't this happen after Sandusky was no longer part of the staff though? If that's the case, and Paterno did report it to his higher ups, then he did the right thing. Remember hearsay is inadmissible in court, so Paterno calling the police saying someone told him something happened, isn't exactly going to work. Sandusky being on the staff is irrelevant. JoePa still had reporting obligations simply to protect the welfare of the child. He needed to alert authorities that something happened. From there it's up to the authorities to investigate, but his primary responsibility is only to the child, not to report to the higher-up. Further, Sandusky was on staff for the 1998 incident. So this argument is somewhat invalid.
  20. Your 'from the hip' shootin' style is usually pretty entertaining. Not to get all mushy, but I'm a big fan. As has been well-documented in past threads, I just have a different approach to the issue. My take on Christianity is pretty simple, and it's Bible-based. It comes from Matthew 7: 9-11: Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! God is omnipotent, meaning there is nothing at all he cannot do. So, if God Is Love, and he loves me like a father, then what am I doing here? Why aren't I in heaven already? Why was I born in this environment of sin, and not directly into heaven? Heaven is the bread, or the fish. Earth is the stone, or the snake. A God who loves me more than I love my wife or daughter would never put me in this environment. I cannot fathom doing this to my child. The story falls apart for me there. There's more, some deeply personal stuff and some logical stuff, but the bottom line is, I don't buy it.
  21. Do you want the "official" reason, or the unofficial? Officially, Frank had let recruiting slip. He didn't have the same ability to lead that staff as Osborne. He stuck with a bad hire (Bohl) far too long. And Pedey is an [Mod Edit]. Those are the "party line" reasons Frank was let go. Unofficially, there were other reasons. But the above are the official explanation.
  22. Lies! Rex cannot be hurt. I think it's more reasonable to believe that the rest of the world suddenly developed a limp, thus making Rex seem like he was limping.
