  2. Are these two things wholly unrelated? Bo is displeased on the sidelines with the refs/how his team is playing/whatever. So he reacts by going ballistic. The fans are displeased in the seats with the refs/the players/the playcalling/the execution/whatever. So they react by booing. I think there's a similarity there. Bo expresses his displeasure by going off, the fans express theirs by booing. I think those are pretty similar...? Personally, I wouldn't go ballistic to the level Bo does. I have also never booed the players/coaches at a game. But that doesn't mean I don't understand why each does what they do. I chose the second "neither." I think Bo is right about the booing (shouldn't be happening), but he's also not the best person to talk about other people's behavior. Bo has earned his reputation for going ballistic about things. I get why he gets so mad, but that doesn't mean I don't think he takes it to an extreme. He needs to dial it down a notch.
  3. It has been my experience that no party is ever wholly in the right. There's usually some measure of "wrong" on both sides. That's where settlements become everyone's friend, and why settlements in cases like this are strongly encouraged throughout the process.

Statements like this drive me nuts. It's no different than 'Forced Diversity'. If you are not hiring someone because they are in a wheel chair or a non Caucasian race, then you are an idiot and you should be fired. I would say more often than not these rules are used for lawsuits. It's funny that you bring up a cold. Something that has recently come up is a version of FMLA that has been labeled as 'Intermittent'. The version allows you to miss a day here and there instead of a block, say a month, or time. Basically, a Dr. can write you a note saying that you will periodically miss work over an extended time period, usually 6 months. Since FMLA allows you to miss up to 2 months out of the entire year, can you imagine how disruptive it is to let people just come and go as they please? Because FMLA is a law, some employees count every single absence as FMLA. The can miss 60 days in a year a guess what.....they have the same attendance as the guy/gal that didn't miss any work in 275 work days. I wish people could understand that some Doctors will write a note for anything. It's yet another thing that makes American business less competitive as I must keep a larger than necessary workforce to cover such blatantly poor attendance. That translates into higher product/service costs. You then put an entire organization on the hook because of a handful of people that are working the system. Unfortunately, I see the UNK issue as something similar. I am familiar with UNK from a previous life and my guess is they are talking about the university apartments that are adjacent to the campus on the NW side. You can't let people start making their own rules. It sets a terrible precedent and ultimately brings the system down. Moving away and going to college is difficult for many kids for a lot of different reasons. This girl and her family need to show some accountability. I know all about doctors writing notes for anything. "Dr., I have pain." "OK, here's a note." Boom, done. But it's not that easy to prove discrimination, just because the doctor provided a note. The doctor does not enforce anything on the employer, nor does the employer have to follow the doctor's note. Accommodations must be reasonable and they must be something both parties can agree on. Accommodations must not produce an undue burden on the employer. That means that the doctor's note doesn't give the employee carte blanche to demand whatever they wish. Often the accommodation provided won't be to the employee's liking, and that's too bad. The employee does not have blanket protection. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to explain to people that their employer is not bound by that doctor's note. It is shocking to people when they find this out, as often they truly believe that the employer has to do whatever the doctor says.
  6. The bizarre thing, to me, is that industry was behind the revamp of the ADA. The ADAAA of 2009 took a near-complete 180 from the ADA, to the point where a cold can now be considered a disability if it keeps the employee from work for a couple of days. I really doubt this was the intent of the amendment, but that's where we are. Everyone is perceived to be disabled now if they have any kind of medical condition. They've already met the prima facie elements just by being impaired. It's a world gone mad.
  7. If that's the case, come to my house and I'll make "runzas" that will blow Runza's runzas out of the water! Runza! My mom made, by all accounts, the "best" runzas ever, and I hated them. Something about hamburger roasted with cabbage in a bread pocket just has never appealed to me.
  8. Except that Marvin himself said O'Hanlon messed up. But, and this is the point, nobody here knew why until that defense was explained. One pull-quote from an article doesn't mean people grasp the subtleties of defense.
  9. Earlier. Like 7am at the latest. A lot of folks come to the game from Omaha. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the interstate between Lincoln and Omaha is under construction (widening), so that's the biggest factor in my recommendation to leave early. Since you're staying at the Super 8 next to the outlet malls, you could just take a right as you leave the outlet mall complex and take the very next left, and take Highway 6 into Lincoln. It'll add maybe 10 minutes onto your drive, but you'll drive through a couple of small towns and get the feel of more rural Nebraska - if you're into that kind of thing.
  10. I think, in general, it's easier to talk about the offense, which is why people usually do. I get the impression from many conversations that the nuances (no pun intended) of the defense are harder to grasp. For example, so many of us simply presumed O'Hanlon blew coverage on that late play at VA Tech years ago, then someone came in and explained his responsibilities to us and we were all like, "Oh... OK."
  11. I get the fascination with Ron Paul, I just think his ideas won't work in the real world. Kucinich should have gotten more questions, if only so that he could have stayed in the race longer and we could look at his wife more often.
  12. The University needs to show that they engaged in a good-faith attempt to interactively accommodate her once they were put on notice that she had a disability. It's not enough to simply claim that they fall under DOJ guidelines and not HUD guidelines - in discrimination cases involving students that's true, but once you start talking about where people live, it's a completely different animal. No pun intended.
  13. Bars in Lincoln close at 1am. You can buy booze in Lincoln at any grocery store 24/7, except on Sunday mornings until noon. Not sure about Gretna/Omaha. Main grocery stores around here are Hy-Vee, Super Saver (in Lincoln) and Wal-Mart superstores, but I recommend avoiding the Wal-Marts. For obvious reasons. The Haymarket is a region of downtown Lincoln from O Street to R street, 9th street to 7th street. It contains kitschy little shops and is the best concentration of restaurants in town, including The Oven, Lazlo's, Vincenzo's, El Portrero, Maggie's, Bread & Cup, Brewsky's, Buzzard Billy's, Old Chicago (which I'm sure you're familiar with), and for dessert Ivanna Cone, the best ice cream in Nebraska (7th & P, right across from Lazlo's). There are several bars down there as well, but the "main" bars are from 9th street east along O street. You will be thoroughly unimpressed with a runza. Try one just to try it, but you won't buy two. It's a traditional old food in Nebraska that is very meh. Valentino's pizza is slightly better than frozen pizza. 30 years ago it was fantastic, but they went corporate, lost their soul and now they make trash. Do not get their pizza. It is an absolute crime what they have turned that business into. There are no good pizza joints in Lincoln. If you want fantastic pizza come to my house on Friday and I'll make you a pie, regular, thin-crust or deep-dish. Misty's in the Havelock district (on Havelock Ave) is a traditional old restaurant in Husker folklore. They serve a mean prime rib and the Havelock location has a pep band every Friday night before the game. As many have mentioned, it is in dire need of renovation. The food is meat-and-potatoes, and decent. They have a downtown location at 11th & P, but I have heard way too many people talk about bad experiences there. The one time I went there I had a very bad experience with the server and I won't go back. For tailgating I highly recommend hitting the 'gates under the viaduct west of the stadium. I go over there before every game and it's a great time. Elk Creek Water is the shizzle. Just don't drink too much of it. The comparison to a screwdriver someone made up above is apt, but it's got about 10x the alcohol of a regular screwdriver. It tastes like a nice mix of orange and grapefruit juice and it will knock you on your keister. I-80 between Gretna and Lincoln gets VERY congested before games, so if you're coming down I recommend coming early in the AM to avoid traffic.
  14. WTF? Nobody talking about defense? I thought *everybody* was talking about defense. And not in a good way. Everybody where? News articles are probably 3:1 about the offense. Threads here at HuskerBoard are at least at that ratio, and I would say threads specifically about Taylor are 5:1 or greater than threads about the defense.
  15. Dirk asked a couple of days ago on Twitter what he should write about next, and listed off several things, none of which were related to the defense. My response: I've been meaning to post a big, long thread about the defense, and I was going to title it "Diagnosing the Defense," but to date I haven't had time to write it. Work is hectic right now.
  16. I've always thought cherry-picking the worst-case scenarios of the last 20 years was a legitimate form of criticism. As legit as saying all fans "suck" because of the behavior of a few, I know. It's a boorish argument.

  20. Exactly. And it's a crime that people have such a bad view of Madison. As one of your compatriots listed in another thread, Wisconsin has a LOT of academic success to boast about. It's a fine school producing well-educated people. That's what makes the crowd behavior - and I think the consensus is that it's almost entirely the students - so strange. Higher education and churlish behavior don't seem to go hand in hand. The unfortunate reality is that nearly everyone I've talked to or heard about won't be making a return trip to Madison the next time Nebraska plays. That kind of atmosphere isn't what Wisconsin is all about.
  21. The fact that a letter like that has to be sent out is bad enough. What's worse is that these chants have been going on for years according to fans of other Big Ten schools. I have a hard time understanding why this was tolerated for so long. I know for a fact that our fans are not the first to have complained about the students at Camp Randall.
