  1. It is a sad commentary on the state of the modern fan when a newspaper reporter who has gone out of his way to write incendiary articles gets more defense from Husker fans than our coach and the player the reporter targets.
  2. I am so stoked about this win, for so many reasons, not the least of which is that we avoid a two-week session of self-destruction. It would have been ugly around here if we hadn't pulled that out. Happy bye week, everyone. Let's enjoy it!
  3. I heard a smattering of boos, but I didn't think it was very much. Could barely hear them up in the cheap seats. Did it sound like a lot on TV? I don't agree with booing our team, and I would never do it. But I grasp why people did after that first half. Bo said it - we left a lot of drives on the field that half.
  4. I have no voice. And my head is ringing. And my hands hurt from clapping. And my forearms hurt from throwing the bones. But it was all worth it. Every second. What a hell of a game.

I hope that noise came through on TV. I felt like we made more noise than any other game this year, even when we were down big. When we scored to make it 27-13 and then got a defensive stop, the place was up for grabs. So much noise. Also my hands hurt from all the high-fives. Why do we try to drive our hands through the other guy's hands? Fans are crazy.

Not too sound negative...but I def. heard some booing going on after the TMart int....that PISSED ME OFF....one INT and he is getting crapped on...what do all the booers say NOW!? I bleed scarlet and cream forever. GBR!!!

  5. Well, the truth is that we're not. How could anyone measure such a thing? The things you listed off are all true. Another factor is that we're an unusually polite and welcoming crowd. We are friendly towards visitors and we applaud their team as they leave the field, win or lose. The whole "greatest fans" label came from Lee Corso, and the praise for the fans has been echoed by a number of coaches and writers over the years. Steve Pederson put those signs over the doors, and we've been made to live up to them ever since. For better or worse.
  6. And its cousin, the "classiest" fans thread.
  7. Look up and to your right - I'll be in 34, row 85. I'll wave.
  8. If Chatelain is writing Op/Ed, where's the disclosure stating such? I must be missing this. Seems like it's in the Sports section to me, story is posted under the header "Football," there's nothing there indicating it's an opinion piece.
  9. You are welcome to a different opinion, zoogs. The fact of the matter is, Dirk was not objective and dispassionate in this article. He violated Rule 1 in Journalism, plain as day. You can support that if you like. It doesn't make it correct, it just means you're OK with journalists putting themselves in the story. I'm not OK. Just a point on which we differ.
  10. I wouldn't consider Tressel "mediocre" AT ALL. That's bizarre. Over the past four-ish years Ohio State's SOS hasn't been that good, but from 2005-2001 you played decent competition, and Tress still thrived.
  11. You've been predicting Bo's demise since 2009, as I recall. Stick with it. Sooner or later, you're bound to be right! as usual you are wrong, this is the first time i have complained openly of his childish, unprofessional behavior......Knapp you get lost with your over active posts and don't remember who you read or what they said today, let alone 2 years ago.......give it up and turn on the TV dude, give it a break before you stroke out. So that wasn't you posting a thread titled "Is Pelini losing it already?" in October, 2009?
  12. You've been predicting Bo's demise since 2009, as I recall. Stick with it. Sooner or later, you're bound to be right!
  13. You want Nebraska to pattern itself after BYU? I'm going to pass on that one.
  14. And a school that allows greater access than Nebraska would be.......?
  15. What are you talking about? The media has no less access here than any other school. What more access to this school, team, etc should they have? And why in the world do you trust the media with greater access?
  16. For the record I don't think it's a FOIA issue, either. I'm grasping at straws on how the media "has a right" to be at practice, is all.
  17. Under no circumstances, either professionally or legally, does the media have any right whatsoever to be at practice. I suppose, Nebraska being a public institution, the media could attempt to force their way in under FOIA, but even that won't get it done - likely the courts would rule that the team has a right to privacy under an amateur version of a trade secret protection (and yes I know I'm explaining that horribly, we can have a lawerly type chime in if they like). If a court ruled that the media has rights to practice, likely the only thing they'd be able to get, after a FOIA request was submitted, would be tapes of practices from weeks, if not months prior. I can't see any legal method by which the press could force the university's hand into letting them attend live practices. Enhance, you've mentioned that you're a J-school student. Have your instructors said anything about any possible method of gaining entrance to practice? I would be really curious to know how they'd do it.
  18. I thought you were one in 12 that didn't like Runzas? What I'm getting at in that post is that we all have this idyllic image in our heads of what a "true Husker fan" is. Coincidentally, we all fit our own personal views of that "true Husker fan." I'm poking fun at that coincidence.
  19. A True Husker Fan is someone who thinks what I think, who disagrees with the things I disagree with, who likes my favorite player and who wants to bench the same player I think should be benched. A True Husker Fan is someone who echoes my sentiments after a loss, who agrees with my take on the team's flaws, and whose rhetoric matches mine while discussing both. A True Husker Fan shares my taste in runzas, Valentino's pizza and Fairbury hot dogs. A True Husker Fan stands when I stand, shouts when I shout, sits when I sit and stays quiet when I stay quiet. A True Husker Fan shares my opinion of Lil' Red. A True Husker Fan shares my opinions on Nebraska's rivals, which conference we belong in, and which team we love/hate the most. A True Husker Fan agrees with me on that call the ref made - you know the one, in the third quarter, the one that affected the game? Yeah, that one. A True Husker Fan does a +1 on my posts when I declare something definitive. A True Husker Fan is someone who knows who the greatest QB, RB, WR and Coach at Nebraska is, and I don't even have to mention names, because they know.
  20. Sometimes it's hard to remember that Dirk graduated college with a journalism degree. This is such whiny twaddle. I'm actually embarrassed for him. The vast bulk of this article is whining about Bo's treatment of the press, either directly or indirectly. Bo "shunned protocol" and Martinez "pouted" at a press conference. Bo snapped at reporters. Oh noes! ! ! Not the reporters!!! Taylor avoided press conferences. How DARE he not make himself available to the press!!!! I actually laughed out loud when I read Dirk's advice to Martinez, "Stop with the 'Woe is me.'" Guess what? That goes both ways, journalist. Stop crying that you aren't being respected, stop crying about the drama - which your articles help to create - and do your job the way you expect Bo and Martinez to do theirs. Professionally. Throw some objectivity in there as well, if you remember your classes on that. There is a very clear agenda here, both in this article and in the video that the World Herald has, once again, chosen to show of the talk Bo gave after yesterday's practice, which cut out the four minutes of normalcy and focused SOLELY on the final exchange. That's just sad, OWH. It's too bad the consumers of news are so trained now to accept whatever nonsense comes out of a publication as fact, and lack the ability to think critically about what they're reading. Seeing the agenda behind this article, and others written by Chatelain and other OWH writers, isn't difficult. They clearly have a beef with Pelini. What's too bad is that they hide their grudge in the guise of journalism. This is not journalism, this is a temper tantrum. That isn't mitigated by masking it with some analysis of the team. The local press is just lucky the fans don't have the integrity to hold them to the same standards to which we hold college football players. People just eat this garbage up and love it without realizing they're not getting a five-course meal, they're getting a McStory. You want fries with that?
  21. Yep, on the ground floor, north side These are Ohio State's returned tickets, and do not count toward our ticket allotment. No worries on the sellout streak.
  22. I definitely agree with this. Our harshest critics tend not to be the blue hairs, but the younger guys. The blue hairs just don't have the energy to stand up and scream all game, so they mostly sit mumchance. The people doing the most griping are typically the people doing the loudest cheering, simply because they're vocal - both ways.
  23. I think it's just human nature to focus on the negative. Or maybe we do it a lot here because so many seasons have fallen short of expectations lately. Our O Line is playing really well lately. Our WRs are looking like a really good unit. We are ridiculous at RB, we have two great TEs, we have a QB with some really great, specific skills. But none of these things are what we focus on. We are 4-1 and we've played a tougher schedule this year so far than in any of the previous seven or eight years (through five games), but all we're focusing on is the loss, and the ugly play in the wins. I find myself doing it, too, and when I'm not talking publicly like this I tend to focus on the negative a lot, too. It's a really easy habit to get into.
