  1. Offhand I would say we're able to read the NCAA rule on helmet-to-helmet hits and we grasp the concept of the rule. And to the underlined above - I've already explained why that is NOT an illegal hit. Repeating that it is won't change the fact that it isn't.
  2. We can also spin straw into gold. If you look on the first page of this thread, there are a few tweets from Game Day people saying they're going to be at the UO/USC game.
  3. It is impossible to hit someone in the upper part of their body with the upper part of your body and NOT have helmet-to-helmet contact. Helmets today are larger than ever and you simply cannot avoid ALL contact between the two helmets. But the misunderstanding here from the OP on down seems to be that people think ANY contact between two helmets is a foul. It is not. The intent of the rule is to prevent intentional use of the helmet as a weapon, and to protect defenseless players. It is not intended to stop ALL contact between helmets. This is a misrepresentation of the rule. Martin's hit was led by the shoulder, into the chest of the player. The helmet contact was entirely incidental to the action of the hit. The player was not - or should not have been - defenseless. If he was defenseless, that's on him, not Martin. As has been noted, the play was in front of the OK State player. At any time the ball carrier could have cut into his direction, and he could have been a tackler. He was still in "the action of the play" and should not have been off his guard. There is very little difference between Martin's hit yesterday and Scott Frost's hit on an A&M player - who also wasn't paying attention to his surroundings - in this play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwxOYwPYTuk Or this hit by Joel Mackovicka on Dat Nguyen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VykWmBkhBzc&NR=1 In both Frost's and Mackovicka's hits, helmets contacted. Neither hit would be deemed illegal by today's rule - as Martin's wasn't and shouldn't have been - because there was no intent to use the helmet as a weapon. It's OK to discuss this play and this rule, but it seems as if the rule is widely misunderstood. Perhaps some reading is in order.
  4. I don't know anything about Dog, but Dr. Drew is at least full of solid information. Love Line is still one of my favorite shows of all time, and I'll even hunt down MP3 rips of it to listen to here in dreary old Lincoln sometimes. Dr. Drew may have gone too commercial (I don't know, since I don't watch his TV shows), so I can't comment on that. But LL is still the s**t.
  5. Our defense overall > How we played against Oklahoma State But, that's because: Oklahoma State's offense >>> 99% of the offenses in the country Oklahoma State's offense >>>> Missouri's offense Missouri's defense >>> Oklahoma State's defense Which means: We'll have to slug it out, and win a tough, high-scoring game. If we can move the ball against Missouri at all we'll have a good chance to win. Still, I won't count this one in the bag until the final gun.
  6. Oregon has to be the solid #1. They have a crazy offense and they are solid on defense. That is a fearsome team. Auburn should be right up there. Cam Newton is my lead candidate for the Heisman right now. I'm not sure about Missouri yet. I think they're a lot like us, almost a mirror image. The one thing you have to wonder is which Missouri team will show up, the one that barely beat San Diego State or the one that looked good against Oklahoma? Regardless, they should be up there in the hunt.
  7. Google "Casey Kasem ponderous" if you're not sure what the OP is referring to.
  8. Kudos for nailing this prediction.
  9. I think we should start calling Henery A-Magic. Guy looked pretty good running the ball - for a kicker.
  10. Heh. Disagreement aside, I think you're both right. Polls are a gauge of how good we might be (not an exact science), but right now they're irrelevant; we just have to take care of our business and we're in a BCS game, and if the chips magically fall just right, the BCS Championship. But that's a pipe dream at this point, while winning the remainder of our games is attainable.
  11. I should have bumped this today and I totally forgot. Late is better than never.
  12. It's too bad we can't take this thread outside and burn it. That would be a fun bonfire. End of a very dubious streak, almost as annoying as when Osborne went 0-7 in bowl games. Of course, Tom bounced back from that reasonably well.
  13. Good. I haven't watched Game Day since they were here in Lincoln the last time, and I don't miss it one bit. I think I know more about college football by NOT watching Game Day than I would learn by watching it.
  14. Compton was on the field for at least a couple of those big run plays by OSU Yes, which is why I wrote the underlined. For Compton this is his Idaho. While everyone else is seven games into the season, he's two games into the season. Let him get back up to game speed and he'll be fine, that's my guess.
  15. Oklahoma State's offense is freakin' LEGIT. We still have a good defense, and we still have one of the best secondaries in the nation. Just because a good offense moved the ball on us doesn't mean we suck. OSU has been running this offense for a long time, with a lot of good coaches. The fact that they do this pretty much every week should calm people.
  16. That article is crap. Don't waste your time. I've known about the dinosaur cancer for years now. Too bad the author of this article didn't give it the credence it deserves.
  17. I'm not a Watson hater, but I am a realist. The list of grievances against Watson is real, and is not obviated by a good game. Those bad games still happened, and should not have. However, I don't see any reason to over Watson's issues today. He called a good game, he had a solid plan, and his guys executed it well. He did just fine today.
  18. They just added a big linebacker. The loss of Compton cannot be understated. He wasn't great last year, but he was a big recruit and he has a year of coaching up, plus he got to watch Dillard show him how it's done. Losing Compton and Fisher in camp really, really sucked, no matter how well David has played. If Compton starts to show some of that promise we recruited him for, and he gets his head in the game (which will come with more game time), I think our run D will be fine.
  19. Offense - Taylor Martinez. Huge game. Defense - Eric Hagg. Apparently the exchange rate on the Peso is going up. He's worth a million to this defense.
  20. I'm confused why you haven't cracked one regardless? with the exception of the OU game last year if I get drunk durring the game Nebraska has lost, I know it sounds crazy but it is a sacrafice I'm willing to make. I'm on my second 32oz virgin Bloody Mary. I highly recommend them.
  21. Looks like someone needs a hug.
  22. Definitely defensive battles. This is nerve-wracking.
  23. I've watched this play several times on DVR now, and you can clearly see Martin lead with his shoulder, not his helmet. He hit the guy across the bow, not helmet-to-helmet.
  24. If it doesn't violate copyrights, why would we delete it?
