  1. To follow up on this conversation, even though we lost and are still ranked well below Boise, our SOS has already caught up with theirs. Sagarin ranks our SOS at #53, while Boise's is at #55. We will continue to climb the SOS rankings no matter what happens because Oklahoma St. and Missouri are ranked so far above any of our Non-Con opponents. To be clear, this is a separate conversation from our actual rankings - just discussing the SOS.
  2. If the worst thing we do at Memorial Stadium is boo a player who seems to be following a pattern of injuries in the middle of Nebraska moving the ball, we're doing just fine. There are about a million worse things we could be doing. Was it stupid? Yes. But a one-time incident doesn't mean we should be ashamed of our colors. Some of you guys are being way too melodramatic.
  3. What? Martinez didn't lose us this game, our receivers lost the game. We were in position to score multiple touchdowns under Martinez. There is no justification for making this statement.
  4. That's so very true. There is no rhyme nor reason for why we mess up these days. In the Callahan era we were simply poorly coached, poorly prepared, and poorly organized. These days we have a very solid defense that still looks amateurish at times. We have an offense that mows people down and looks like world-beaters one week, then looks like a bunch of true freshmen the next. You simply cannot predict this team anymore. We are not worse than Texas. We are probably about as good as Texas right now. But when we are so inept, so bumbling that we become our own worst enemy, it doesn't matter how skilled we are. We're going to continue to lose games like this and there will be no explanation for the loss. These games where you walk out of the stadium, shaking your head and saying, "What was that?" are just painful as all hell.
  5. Great stuff, Hercules. Those were some good analyses you put forth up there. To me, this was the crux of this game. Our offense seems hide-bound to do a certain thing. All this talk of "multiple" blah-blah-blah is nice to say, but it seems when we NEED to be multiple, we are unwilling or unable to be so. The big play for this offense has been the Zone Read. We've run it all season, and by gum we're going to run it the rest of the season, too. Which then begs the question - what's the point of having a huge playbook when you don't use those plays? We came into this game with a single-minded focus - do what we do, and do it well. The problem is, we changed nothing from what we'd been doing the previous five games. Texas had more film to watch on us than a Cecil B. DeMille epic, and everything they spent two weeks planning for, we did. Contrast that with Texas' plan of letting Gilbert run loose, something we very clearly were not prepared for, and you have a recipe for a disaster. You cannot give enough credit to Texas for this win. They outschemed us, they outplanned us, they outprepared us, and they outhustled us, all game long. I tip my cap to Mack Brown and Will Muschamp - they showed why, even when the chips are down, they are two of the best coaches out there. But here's the problem Nebraska faces - extra time to prepare for an opponent is only valuable if you use it. We had an extra two days to prep for Texas. Clearly we did not use it. Clearly we rested on our laurels and did nothing to prepare for our opponent - or at least, we did nothing different. I'm probably more bitter about this loss than any of the other upcoming losses we're going to have simply because this was Texas. This was the one single game all season where we had to put everything on the table, and we simply did not. You do not put a focus on a game like this and come out and play like that. Not unless you want to be the laughingstock of college football for a day. The one single saving grace of this day was that Ohio State lost as well. Had the #1 team not also lost today, taking a huge measure of attention away from this game, we would be hearing about this all season long.
  6. I would not equate shaggybevo to 4Chan. ShaggyBevo is to 4Chan what the Huskers have been to Texas these past 12 years.
  7. That'll be about enough of this thread, too. Everyone's upset we lost. Let's not devour ourselves because we're all pissed we lost.
  8. Awesome. We're still in line for the playoffs!
  9. Suh's was a one-time situation where one of our DBs was seriously messed up from a knock to the helmet, but he wasn't leaving the field. Suh fell down to save the guy. What this thread is talking about is a totally different situation.
  10. Name calling. Just more of that maturity shining through, huh? Yeah, I believe that the players should be held accountable. There's nothing wrong with going up to Niles Paul and saying, "Hey, you made a bunch of mistakes and you need to improve in order to keep your starting spot on this team". There is something wrong with going up to Niles Paul and saying, "Hey, you made a bunch of mistakes and you suck. Quit football". Which, unfortunately, many people feel right now. So instead of telling the players "you suck," your method of choice is to tell the fans, "you're immature." Not a lot of difference there, huh? Actually, there is a big difference. The players live their lives balancing school, football, and social lives... and the expectations of an entire state. Once a week they go out and play a football game (key word, there). All you armchair quarterbacks have work and social lives to balance in your life. No crippling expectations from overbearing fans. The players go out there and, even though it doesn't seem like it to you guys, play their hearts out. Yeah, they make mistakes. Who doesn't? No one is perfect. When you're at work and your boss berates you for making a mistake on a project, do you like it? Most likely not. Should you be held accountable for your mistakes? Yes. Now pretend your boss comes in and starts calling you names and tells you to quit. Is that fair? No. Do you get the analogy?

  12. You're being entirely unrealistic if you think that these kids shouldn't take any heat. Bo is giving them plenty of heat right now, I can promise you. He preaches accountability in his program. I see nothing wrong with calling out players who do not do their job.
  13. Everything, apparently. It's my job to keep order on the board. That's all I'm doing. It was a friendly reminder. I do not recommend anyone (Husker_x) making a big deal out of this. Just calm down. I'm curious as to whether or not the posters who posted attacks on the players and coaches got similar warnings. You would have to ask the Moderators who were on the board at that time. I wasn't here, so I don't know. I'm here now, and this is how I'm handling it. If you have a concern about the way I'm doing my job, you're welcome to take it up with an Admin.
  14. Zero. It's clear the SDSU game wasn't "playing possum" or an isolated incident. This is a flawed team. If we clean up our flaws and play well from here on out, we'll finish in the top ten. That's not bad for this team.

  16. Real mature. You need to calm down right now. You do not hold a monopoly on "maturity" on this board, and you're dancing close to a warning by continuing on this vein. Consider this a polite, friendly warning not to go on with these kinds of comments towards your fellow posters.
  17. That's about right. You play that bad, you deserve to drop that far. It could have been a lot, lot worse.
  18. I seem to recall a similar phrase on my wristband at the HuskerBoard tailgate yesterday. The Texas fans that walked by didn't seem to mind. In fact, all they could talk about was how nice we'd been to them. I think the self-proclaimed "more mature" members of this board (this thread, in particular) need to chillax.
  19. I met a lot of Texas fans yesterday and they were all great. One of them told me the Austin TV stations were saying that if you go up to Lincoln for the game be ready because the Husker fans have changed, and he went to great lengths to tell me how wrong that was. Everyone said they were treated well by us, and they were all pretty cool folks.
  20. I would have put this all in one post, but apparently you can only put two media files per post.
