  1. Obviously, they aren't the top choices- someone like grobe, johnson or kelly is. If Bo or TG were Tom's choice, he wouldn't be wasting time and money on further interviews. He could hire TG right now, TG has no more games to play this season. He could hire BO right now as well, announce it and Bo could finish the last regular game for LSU. There's a reason that hasn't happened. TO's trying for the top guys!! He can always get Bo or TG if he has to. Yes he could pull the trigger on Gill, however IF Bo is the guy TO is leaning toward he would have sked for there to be no announcement until after the SEC title game. Furthermore I think he feels he has to interview at least 4 or 5, just so he can come back and say - I feel he is the best fit for the job - To cover for the boosters pushing with their checkbooks.
  2. My biggest concern about Kelly is he seems to be a jumper. This is a dream job from Gill, and it sounds like it is also Bo's dream job as well. Yes, Kelly can win, but how long will he stay? What is his dream job? I believe either Turner or Bo would stick around for a long time. I always hear people saying Bo would bolt to the NFL after a few successful years, but I don't believe it. I think he loves the college game, loves to teach the game and mold his players. I really don't see him as the type to want to orchestrate a bunch of b!tchy millionaires. I think the passion that Turner and Bo have for NU and college football it what gives them the edge.
  3. Michigan will pay top $$$ for the coach they want. I wouldn't be surprised if they pay closer to the $4MM mark.
  4. And you're sure all that in-state recruiting had nothing to do with possibly improving on the walk-on program? I don't believe he cares about the walk-on program. He has something like 12 walk-ons this year, and has never done anything to recruit walk-ons. I really don't think some magical light came on in his head and said this is what I need to do to improve this program. We're getting side-tracked and off topic but the walk-on program has been alive and well since Callahan's arrival. The Independent Walk-ons aren't nearly as plentiful as they once were. In the early 1980s, with a freshman team on which to evaluate them, as many as 90 walk-ons checked out equipment in the fall. Such numbers were relegated to history long before Callahan arrived. But they were used against him by those resistant to change and unwilling to consider context in evaluating him. Among other things, he was charged with raising the talent level. That meant emphasizing recruiting, focusing on high-profile scholarship players. And he did reduce the roster, which meant cutting walk-ons. IMO, Callahan was in a damned if he does, damned if he doesn't situation with the Walk-on program. Had he continued with it at the level of Solich and Osborne, Callahan would have been accused of lackluster recruiting or not being able to recruit the top rated recruits. Instead, Callahan goes after top-rated recruits and now he's being accused of diminishing the value of the walk-on program. Please see my initial post. I am not criticizing BC for diminishing the walk-on program. I simply stated IF he were going to be here next year he would have been out talking with the big time recruits who are still on the fence as to whether or not to come to NU next year.

  6. If there where ANY chance of this staff being retained they would have hit the recruits in the off week, not traveling the state looking for walk-ons. No matter what happens next year, whether we keep this staff or hire a new staff, it will be starting over. This is the bottom people!
  7. I love how everyone keeps saying that a coaching change will set us back. When we changed coaching staffs in 2004 it set us back and we are still moving backwards. This staff is gone. Period. TO would have had them out recruiting in the off week if there was a chance Cally would be retained, not touring the state looking for walk-ons.
  8. That is probably the best summary of a man's career ever written.
  9. 1983 NU v. CU 9 years old WOW there was no turning back. More memorable was my wife's first Husker game. 2005 Iowa State. Turned out to be a nail biter, but before the tunnel walk we looked over and my wife seen a blind lady, she couldn't believe it, she was puzzled as to why a blind lady would come to the game. I told her she would some find out. After the tunnel walk she turned to me and said OMG, she is still not much of a football fan, but she loves the Huskers and Memorial Stadium. GBR
  10. I love the Huskers - When we lost NC games before TO won the "BIG ONE" and the players and coaches cried on the sidelines, I cried too. When they cried tears of joy after finally winning a NC, I cried too. For as long as I an remember this great team and the fans were on the same level because of the love for this program. All I feel I am entitled to, as a fan, is that the team (coaches/players) show the same love as I do. That feeling has not been around for 4 years. I expect the team to play with the same love and enthusiasm that I am cheering them on with. TO is back because he loves this program. Period. And he wants to see it return to what it once was. Not necessarily W's and L's but coaches, players, and fans alike sharing all of this together. There used to be a feeling that when you were at the games that you where a part of something wonderful. This staff has intensionally distance itself from that. I think a lot of the fans feel pushed away, and most will push back. Most of don't expect to win every game, hope, yes. What we do expect, is to leave the stadium after a loss feeling our team left everything they had on the field.
  11. I dont know about that.. I think its still going to be his to lose next year even if he has a bad game which I dont think he will but could happen.. The next coach will take a good look at him an I think he is the man for the job no matter what offense the new coach brings in.... I agree - However, if he would not have come out and play like he has, I think his chances at starting next year would be less.
  12. No - It's a done deal! Cally knows it, and so does Ganz. Joe is going to go balls out against CU because he knows it will make the starting QB position his to lose. This is his shot at next year and he knows it. If he comes out and plays mediocre when he has the chance he may as well kiss his senior year good-bye.
  13. If you throw enough crap against the wall some of it has to stick.
  14. No - Cally could do jacks**t with the talent that he had this year. He has a habit of taking potentially good players and turning them to underachievers. He can not motivate.
  15. Lets not forget that he has NEVER won a game when trailing at halftime.
  16. I don't think that it is necessarily that strong, however, everyone is pretty evenly matched. It is a very competitive conf.
  17. I know the media is shut off to players and coaches for the week, but are they going to have the weekly press conference?
  18. If BP choices come down to LSU or NU then I think we have an advantage in the fact the SEC is really strong and looks like it will be that way for a while. The Big 12 (especially the North) is a much easier path to the MNC. He could easily win the North title next year, and possibly the Big 12. The SEC would not be as easy, LSU didn't lock the SEC East until last weekend.
  19. To come out this year would cost him bigtime $$$$. I think he has to take a shot that next year could be a Reggie Bush type of year come out and bust his a$$ and know in the end he'll get paid for it.
  20. "The Huskers are now 12th in the country in pass offense, and 18th in total offense. In the last three games, Nebraska has averaged 544.3 yards a game and 45.6 points a game." To bad the majority of our yards (prior to KSU) came in garbage time against 3rd and 4th stringers.
  21. I for one would love to see Pelini as our next HC. However, I take great comfort in the fact that TO is doing the hiring. I will be more excited to hear BC is gone than ______ is the new coach.
  22. As much as I love what is happening there are still 2 unknowns: 1 - How watered down is the offense to make up for a second string QB? 2 - JG knows this is probably his best shot at starting next year. With Witt and Lee coming out next year, this is the best time to make himself the man to beat for the job next year.
  23. Great run. Ignited the team and got the crowd into the game. The focus became what can this team do today instead of what will happen after CU.
