  1. I am not saying that Woodhead is not a very good player at all; his stats speak volumes. But, and this is a big but, he played Division II. Do you think he could come close to posting those stats against DI teams? No way. He may very well be the best DII player of all time, but he can't be mentioned as one of the all-time greats. Look at it this way, if you weren't a Nebraskan, would you consider him as one of college's greatest? Unless you paid very, very close attention, you probably would have never even heard of him. Think of that UNK qb awhile ago (I believe his name is Coleman?). He threw bombs all over the field and had a great career. Was he even mentioned as one of the top college qb's during his time? No. Woodhead had a great career and is an exceptional player, but he is no match for some of the game's greatest. Could he compete at the DI level? I certainly think so. But again, put him in the Big 12 or SEC and no way would anyone consider him one of the best. About the comment on Reggie Bush.... This is a poll for Greatest NCAA football players of all time. We aren't talking about what Frazier did after college that made him a great player. Why should we compare Bush's pro performances to what he did in college? Bush was an amazing athlete... just watch his college highlight reels on youtube. One more thing... this is kind of hard to start a poll from scratch (besides a basic guideline from ESPN). Maybe some of the moderators of the board could come up with a list of names and then start the debate. I believe rivals.com had a poll similar to this not too long ago. Possibly pick some names from those results and then let the debating begin.
  2. Danny Woodhead???? Are you serious? Nothing against him, but let's be real. We are talking about the Greatest Players of All Time. Woodhead is a very, very good player. But there is no way he can be considered with the likes of H. Walker, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, Reggie Bush, etc.
  3. Do you actually think Mikey Bo gives two sh#ts about what people on a message board are saying about him at this paticular moment? Yes I do... you see, Mikey Bo is in the entertainment business. Not only that, his entertainment business is pop culture; something that is always changing. If people on internet are bashing his music, then they most definitely aren't buying it. And if people aren't buying his music, well, then Mikey Bo is out of business. Luckily for him, most people that frequent this board were never customers to begin with. But in general, I do believe that Mikey Bo is worried about his production's perception.
  4. Throw my two cents in here.... #1 Nebraska: Favorite team. Grew up in the state and will always cheer for the Big Red! #2 Kansas: They're like Nebraska's little brother; still enjoy beating them up but love it when they do well. They are getting a little cocky with their recent success, but still my second favorite team in the Big 12. #3 Oklahoma: I miss the rivalry against Nebraska! I think they are similar to Nebraska: historically very successful (as a team and full of individual honors), went through a down period recently, and they hate Texas. A lot of respect for them. Pity/Tolerable Teams: #4 Texas Tech: Ever been to Lubbock? It's a desert in the absolute middle of nowhere; pity them for location alone. Fun offense to watch with an outspoken coach. Should never lose to them, but no hatred for them. #5 Iowa State: I liked Dan McCartney; thought he did a nice job of building that program up. Hate their colors and cannot stand it when Nebraska losses to them. #6 Baylor: Will they ever be competitive? Feel bad for them. I used to cheer for them when they had Steele. No real threat, just a bunch of rich-religious kids. Don't Really Care For Teams: #7 Texas A&M: Absolutely loved Junction Boys (the book, movie, and the BEAR!). But that's where it ends... have a hard time cheering for any Texas team. Don't care for their AD either. Team colors are bad as well. #8 Oklahoma State: They wear orange! Every now and again they are good and they that's when they get annoying. Nothing really specific against them, just don't really care for them. Liked Barry Sanders but loved it when we shut him down! Almost Always Cheer Against Teams: #9 Kansas State: Give them props for bringing themselves out of the cellar of NCAA football. But with that success their fans have become some of the worse in the Big 12. That no-talent-ass-clown Chad May made me start really disliking them. #10 Texas: Probably the cockiest team in the Big 12. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the egos. Every year they bring in a ton of blue chippers... and almost every year they underachieve. Not going to lie though, I cheered hard for them against USC in that NC game a few years ago. Love to Hate Teams: #11 Colorado: First of all, Boulder is a hippie haven. Second of all, most of the students there are a bunch of pot smoking, snow boarding, annoying rich kids. Makes me sick. Now on to football: Very boastful, always think they're better than what they really are, their head coaches think they're God's Gift to the World, and their players are some of the dirtiest I've seen. #12 Missouri: I wouldn't have ranked them this low a few years ago, but the times are a changing. The dirtiest team in the Big 12. Did anyone watch this past year's KU game? After every play there was extra pushing and shoving, and it's probably safe to say they were talking up a storm. The fans are even worse. Wow... class class class. Usually a bunch of drunk jerks (especially in a rivalry game). Just can't stand them.
  5. Where is this rule posted? Well, there’s the very title of this sub-forum - Rumorville: Hirings / Firings / Retirings / Coaching Candidates / What Ifs... There is also this pinned post on the main page. We are placing the discussions on hires in one place to make it easy to locate them. If they stayed on the main forum, along with what’s already posted there, they’d roll off the page before a lot of people even knew about them. Which would cause others to post the same thing, thereby compounding the problem. Just relax – the way things are shaping up, the staff will be complete soon and the discussion can then focus on what offense or defense will be run, is a particular coach best suited for the position he was hired, and so forth. Thanks for backing me up!
  6. This is not a rumor! Ron himself has said he is now a coach Rumorville stats that it for Gotta hunch, inside information, or just wanna stir the Big Red pot with a conspiracy theory? Post your speculations in Rumorville. Discussions about coaches you want to see on the sidelines? Let's hear 'em! This fits none of those I have to agree. This definately isnt a rumor. Doesn't matter; all coach talk is in rumorville.... don't know why, but that is the rule and they're sticking with it.
  7. I know this is a long shot, but Bo should definitely give Ed Orgeron a call. Orgeron is the former Ole Miss coach and is given duel credit with Pete Carrol for turning USC around. In fact, I believe Carrol said Orgeron is the best recruiter in the nation. Even if Orgeron was just the defensive line coach it would be a huge hire. He brought in some big recruiting classes at lowly Ole Miss. Plus, he is a fiery guy similar to Bo. Dan McCarney, former Iowa State head coach and current defensive line coach at South Florida, would also be another guy to look at. For the most part he did a great job turning Iowa State around. I am afraid though that Bo will hire his brother on the staff. I don't know how that would pan out; it could turn into a sticky situation like what happened for the Bowden family at Florida State.
  8. Thanks man! That is hilarious about that commercial; That bank is probably keeping that commercial up in appreciation for the huge sum of money BC just deposited.
  9. Any word on Coach Callahan lately? Has he moved out of town, spoke to the press? Any predictions as to where he ends up?
  10. Forget the Husker girl; that girl from Cincy is smokin'!
  11. For a long time I added the phrase, "Fremont has long been known as the Armpit of Nebraska" on the Fremont Wiki page. I'd put it on the page, then someone would come erase it. Then I'd put it back up, and someone would erase it. Over and over, until they banned me from editing that page anymore. Losers. Fremont really is the armpit of Nebraska. haha that is hilarious!
  12. Absolutely! He was similar to many small town Nebraska kids (he was from Goodland, KS), which a lot of fans love. Also, he stepped in during the 1994 season, played hurt, and led the team to the National Championship game. He contributed in that game; a game that happened to be TO's first National Championship. Have you forgotten how long so many fans and TO had to wait for that game? And here is a "local" guy who led them to that Championship.
  13. haha this is hilarious! I sure hope he doesn't get into trouble for this. Pretty funny. I wonder how much Matt has to consciously watch his language when he is on live?
  14. I think Coach Gill is a great guy, but I don't believe this would be the best hire. Didn't TO pass on him for Frank Solich to be his successor? And if Solich was indeed hand picked by TO, what does that say about TO being able to decide on a coach?
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7412348 Just saw this on Foxsports.com
  16. I'll throw in my two cents here.... Last season, I went to Columbia to watch Ole Miss play Mizzou. My buddies and I wore red and blue and cheered for the Rebs. We parked in the lawn of a frat house and tailgated a little bit at the stadium. We sat in the Ole Miss section, and as there were only a few hundred of us Reb fans, we were not only surrounded by Mizzou fans, but had quite a few of them in our section. My overall experience was very good; there was one loud-mouthed fan who kept giving a Rebel fan in front of us a hard time, but he was doing this in a relatively polite, fun manner. At the end of the game, the two guys shook hands and said, "Best of luck" for the remaining season. Overall, the Mizzou fans were very polite and showed great hospitality. In fact, I found the students to be nicer than the adult fans. Well, needless to say, my experience was quite a bit different this year when I watched Mizzou play Nebraska. A lot of the fans were straight up jerks. Cussing, taunting, and poor sportsmanship were abundant. A few Husker fans fired back, which certainly didn't help the situation. I have also been to quite a few games in Lawrence. In all the blow-out games I've seen there, even with KU winning, the fans were there for a good time and often left when the outcome was certain. I did find the student section at KU to be pretty rowdy. They have a tasteless cheer, "Rip their f****** heads off!" when KU kicks off. But still, nothing too bad. Again, this year's KU-NU game was quite a bit different than other games. A lot of fans were more hostile than normal and I witnessed Husker fans taking their fair share of abuse. (I would also like to add that even though certain sections are titled "student", many college-aged kids from other schools like to come down to see some old friends and cheer for their visiting school.... no excuses for fans' bad behavior towards other teams' fans sitting in the student section). My point about all this: Big 12 schools get more pumped up for Nebraska games and take them way more seriously. I don't know if it's the fact that Nebraska is still viewed as "The football school" (along with OU) in the Big 12, or what, but when Nebraska comes to town, it is a completely different experience. Maybe opposing fans find it intimidating to see a quarter of their stadium filled with Husker fans and feel the need to act obnoxious. I don't know. These are just my personal experiences. Take them for what they're worth...
  17. I'm sorry, but you're completely wrong here. It's still college football and tackling is something that must be worked on. What if these players' high school coaches didn't work on their fundamentals or taught them incorrectly? It is the players fault? Should the players have to carry their tackling skills from high school through college without working on them? No. I don't think the coaches are entirely at fault with not being "strong enough" or "dedicated enough". If players don't make the commitment to hit the weights, then does that completely fall on the coaches' shoulders? Coaches have to motivate their players, but in the end, if a player doesn't want to put in the work then it falls on the players.
