  1. I'd be willing to take him back... as a walk-on WR.
  2. @Xmas32 Or he got all the right advice, but refused to listen to it...
  3. It's a touchy subject with a lot of guys. Remember that we got Ameer because we were the only ones who were willing to give him a shot at RB. He had a ton of big-time offers, but they were recruiting him as an athlete that they'd put at DB or something. In Ameer's case, letting him stay at the position he really wanted to play worked out great. In Luke's case, not so much. And this is why I'm wary of Tyreke Johnson...
  4. In McCaffrey's case, I think it's fair to question whether the coaches evaluated him well. I don't like second guessing that, though. He was a guy that 247 had rated 4* with a pretty decent offer list - if Frost mis-evaluated him, he's not the only one. The thing is, judging from his actions, I think it's safe to say that Luke is a guy who thinks he's better than he really is. Considering that, I suspect that his real problem might not be talent, but rather coachability. Maybe it's not that Verduzco couldn't coach him up, maybe it's more that Luke is so hard-headed that no one could get through to him. I remember when Gebbia left, his scholarship was 'burned' for the year because he'd went to classes, even though it was one freaking week. That was what really pissed me off about him - that scholarship could've been given to a walk-on who needed it.
  5. So apparently somebody is trying to make a new recruiting site. That somebody being Shannon Terry, who created both Rivals and 247Sports. He's hired Ivan Maisel, who was ESPN.com's first college football writer until he was recently laid off. Chad Simmons, formerly of Rivals, is director of recruiting. Maybe Nate Clouse ends up there? Hey, we've kinda needed another voice since Scout went bye-bye. It's supposed to launch just before the season starts. https://www.on3.com/ https://www.nashvillepost.com/sports/sports-recruiting-website-on3-com-latest-venture-for-shannon-terry/article_f203bfe8-c351-11eb-8632-571311f9af42.html https://www.on3.com/news/ivan-maisel-new-job-is-to-make-on3-com-the-college-sports-destination-site/ https://www.on3.com/news/chad-simmons-joins-on3-com-as-director-of-recruting/
  6. Well, Tyreke apparently didn't commit on the spot. On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be any news of him visiting other schools, so there's that...
  7. Seems he's looking forward to playing behind a decent line: "A feel good moment for Torres on the trip was getting a chance to meet some of the offensive linemen. One of the first he saw was the starting right tackle. 'One of the first guys I saw was Bryce Benhart, the right tackle. He's a big guy. I mean, he's a really big guy. He's like 6-foot-9. It's a good feeling to think about playing behind a guy like that.'"
  8. @BartonHusker He is an ex-recruit of ours (and just about everyone else's).
  9. Yeah, a lot of people saying he heard NFL corners make more than safeties, so he's insistent on trying to make corner work. Supposedly when he was being recruited, a lot of scouts said he was way overrated. And apparently (per comments) in high school, his coaches mostly just turned him loose and let him excel on raw athleticism, so he came in with tons of potential but not much actual skill. So yeah, it sounds like he'd be better off in a safety spot where he can focus on being a ball hawk. Probably still worth taking either way, but if he's still insisting on playing corner, I'd say temper your expectations and forget that 5* bit.
  10. You know how we're always saying in this thread that transfers mostly end up at lower-tier schools? Yeah...
  11. Anybody got any clips of him on the field for Ohio State?
  12. He sure has been retweeting a lot of Husker stuff on Twitter lately...
  13. Only a low 3* from 247, with nothing from Rivals so far. But OTOH, at least his highlight reel shows a lot more than just backing up a mile and throwing a bomb like Torres...
  14. Right at this moment we probably need more at corner, but next year when Williams and Dismuke are gone it might be a different story. I still wonder if he's wanting to move back to safety, though.
  15. Reading some Ohio State comments, they said he seemed to be playing timid when he saw the field, like he was afraid of contact.
  16. Doing some research, apparently he was a safety in HS (and was rated like the #2 S prospect in the country), but Ohio State was playing him at CB? Maybe he just needs to get back to playing safety?
  17. Damnit, Mav beat me to it. Oh well. According to SI, he'll have three years of eligibility remaining - nothing to sneeze at. Also went to the same HS as Deontai Williams. https://www.si.com/college/ohiostate/football/ohio-state-football-junior-cornerback-tyreke-johnson-enters-ncaa-transfer-portal
  18. @Hilltop The thing is, we've had other good receiving options in guys like Wandale and Spielman. The problem is that we haven't had a legit deep threat guy at the X receiver spot since Stanley Morgan left. No deep threat for defenses to worry about = short passes and runs get easier for the D to handle. Get that taken care of, and everything else opens up more. Manning is exactly the puzzle piece that this offense has been missing the last two seasons. @Mavric Even just as a passer, I wouldn't say Lee was significantly better than Armstrong. Lee threw twice as many picks in 2017 as Armstrong did in the previous season. Even accounting for the difference in attempts, that's pretty awful. Lee's completion percentage wasn't THAT much better (57.5 vs 51.4), and efficiency was about even (129 vs 124).
  19. @Mavric Wait, so you're implying that Tanner Lee was a better QB than Armstrong? Ehh... I don't think I'd agree. Lee had a better arm, but that's pretty much it. But yeah, we desperately need receivers. My forecast for this season depends heavily on whether Manning is healthy (in all aspects).
