  1. I couldn't agree more. Leach has found a way to get more production out of each subsequent QB. Even though it will be hard to duplicate the numbers Harrell put up, it's pretty impressive. Now that they're putting some emphasis on defense, they'll remain a solid team. Some Tech fans aren't convinced they'll be better on D, but they don't think it will be bad either.
  2. This site has predicted W/L for each team with some formula. It predicts a 1st place in the north between Kansas and Missouri, with Kansas winning the head to head between those two. (Each with 9-3 records and 5-3 in conference). While it could happen, I'll be very disappointed if we don't do a little better than 7-5 and 4-4, as this formula dictates. http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/analysi...welve_nebr.html
  3. If you hit any history from 2004 to 2007, don't drink in the history, just drink. Best of luck with your preparation. It sounds like you have a strong faith and that's exactly what you need. Know that Husker Nation is thinking positive thoughts for your precious Aria.
  4. I really really liked Tommy Saunders. But, really, other than Booger, I haven't disliked any Tiger. I don't even dislike most Tiger fans. Just couldn't stand Booger. I'll go so far as to say I might even hate him. And, count me in as one person who roots for him to make the practice squad with the Redskins because it will all but guarantee I won't have to see him ever again. Having to see him on the Missouri sidelines as a GA/assistant would make me vomit.
  5. Dump ISU and KSU, bring OSU and OU to the North, then add TCU and Arkansas to the South. You're welcome.
  6. kiwi - welcome to the board, and I'm very sorry to hear about your reasoning for coming to Omaha. I wish you were coming under better circumstances. I agree with most here that Omaha is a nice small city, so your stay, even under the circumstances, should be very pleasant. If you want to get a jump on the season, you can even watch a couple of games on http://www.big12sports.com/ -- I believe they have two games, vs Virginia Tech and vs Colorado. If you do nothing else, check out the fourth quarter of the 2008 Colorado game - it will not disappoint. To watch the videos, they do make you sign up for an account, but it is free. Both games on big12sports show that first year head coach Bo Pelini does not let his guys quit when the chips are down. The Virginia Tech game was an early season loss, and a comeback fell short. The offense then looked much different than it did at the end of the year, so that's why I recommend the Colorado game much more (plus, it was a win). If you're feeling up to it, you can drive about an hour to Lincoln some day and take a tour -- there are contacts on this page: http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB...1&SPSID=187
  7. I don't know the answer, but I thought I literally saw a whole bunch of lightbulbs going on simultaneously during the bowl game. It helps when the opposing QB is an immobile target, but overall I think they were really starting to get how to play REAL defense then. Now, when they start playing against spread offenses, that seems to be a whole new ball game. One thing is for sure, it will be fun watching these young defensive players grow up in this system and being able to see progress is sure exciting.
  8. HS QB turned recruiter is a double-edged sword that I hope pays off for US this time instead of our Big 12 North rivals. Call me once bitten, twice shy. Watson MUST be retained. I was literally sick to my stomach when the rumors about him going to Alabama were circulating. I don't think it will be any easier to swallow the next time around either.
  9. I saw this on Tim Griffin's Lunch Time Links. (From KUSports.com - http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/newell_po...ites-to-win-bi/
  10. Great find - thanks! Tops in the mobility and accuracy drills. I guess that settles the argument about him being exclusively a dropback passer.
  11. Go Underdog, Go!! I really hope he can see the field. I always think of these undersized speedsters (like Marlowe) as prime KR/PR candidates.
  12. Oh, and I'll add separately that streaks will be broken. Just like that stat they said until last year something about over 100 teams winning bowls since Notre Dame last did, or something along those lines (wish I would have kept that stat).
  13. Actually, no. I wasn't around message boards at that time, but in my head before 2007 I did predict the Huskers would go 5-7. In my wildest dreams I never imagined that it would be the ugliest imaginable 5-7, though. We were lucky to be 5-7, because the two close wins against Wake Forest and Ball State really could have (and maybe SHOULD have) gone the other way. They were so close to being 3-9, it's scary! It makes the job Bo has done in his first year all that more remarkable. So, again, no - I didn't think we had turned a corner at that point. Nine wins for BC was nice for a change, but I didn't see much in those 9 wins during 2006 to make me think that there was anything spectacular about to happen any time soon. Given my thoughts on how I thought 2007 was going to go before the season, imagine just how I felt about that raise and contract extension. No one consulted me, though, but I could have told Pedey it was the worst possible idea and saved the University a lot of money.
  14. the Husker fan knows of what he speaks. There's a little matter of learning the playbook - Ganz knew it inside, outside, backwards and forwards and was called "a coach on the field". He'd seen this playbook for 5 years, and worked his ass off for his chance. Lee is far more gifted physically than Ganz. That's not me knocking Ganz, because I loved that guy, but it is what it is. We've heard Lee has taken a big step forward with the mental aspect now that he appears to be "the man". We shall see if he's really ready soon enough, but yeah, he's got the physical tools to be better than Joey was.
  15. The title is very misleading compared to the content. After now reading it several times, I think he meant "IS the next All-Big 12 QB on the roster?".
  16. Pretty much every Hokie I've encountered on a message board = nothing but pure class. I have never heard a bad word about their fans which is why I am looking forward to going to that game in September. Careful though, Hokieluv, I might be taking you up on that offer. I have my reservations all set and no turning back now. I'm sure tickets are hard to come by for a VT game, but what do you think my chances are finding some on game day from scalpers? Or should I just bite the bullet and get them from stub hub (or wherever).?
  17. Whatever team I would root for, it would have to be scarlet (or reasonable facsimile) uniforms. Nothing gets my heart racing like that color. I always had a soft spot for Wisconsin when Alvarez was there. I guess if I was FORCED to root for another team, I could always put on some Badger-wear and give it a go. But, please, no more of this talk.
  18. Well, would you look at that! There it is. Thanks a heap!
  19. eye ar stoopid - how do you get the low-bandwidth version of this site? I'd like to test it out on various handheld devices.
  20. Wow, and I thought 34:01 min TOP last year was amazing! j/k we'd never lose! I had better tell Bo and Watson this brilliant plan of mine.
  21. Oooh.. you kind of bring up a good point in a way. Let's say we had 2 routs to start the season. Do you continue to play Zac Lee till the very end because he needs more game reps before the road game? Or, do you start getting the backup QB(s) some reps at that point? Personally, I think I'd want to keep Lee in for all 60 minutes, at least in those first two games, no matter what the score was nor how it looked because he needs as much game experience as he can get before going on the road. Could be they won't have a choice because I think the teams coming in are better than they are getting credit for, but still should be fairly easy (on paper ... same place that Ball State looked like a gimme game).
  22. Trucker - great comments. When you mention that my grade of Watson wasn't fair because "I think everyone was pretty much trying to figure out what real talent we had and what the offensive philosophy was that Bo wanted to frame at the beginning of the season." Who was in the best position to know that ahead of time? Watson. I also thought Bo pretty much turned over all of the offensive decisions to Watson, so it was all on him. I agree about the O-line not doing them any favors, but I was very disappointed in the offensive game plan the first part of the season. Especially if I go back and watch any of it now and know what it looked like at the end of the season. But, whatever, I am definitely looking forward to what 2009 brings now that the staff has been in place for a season +.
  23. I was elated with RB being picked up as an assistant regardless of the fact that he had been out of the game for so long. His attitude and work ethic is unmatched as far as I am concerned and can only be infectious for his players. I think we see improvement from Sanders and the secondary. Of course that is easy to say as there is a lot of room for improvement. Overall I see the team gelling and responding to the system with improvements across the board. GBR I agree, I think we will see improvement in the secondary. In all actuality, all the coaches should get an incomplete because I don't think we've seen even a fraction of what they are capable of yet since they really haven't even gotten to use any of their own players yet. Time to unleash some hungry beasts! I desperately want to feel comfortable enough to give each man an A+++++! I think they are capable and I do love this staff, even though I'll be critical at times. and PS - I hope Cotton proves me very very wrong! Sometimes I just love being wrong.
  24. Yes, you have my opinion straight. First, we obviously needed serious defensive help and Sanders had recently been a DC of a decent defensive unit while Ron Brown had been out of football for quite some time. But, hey, he impresses the hell out of me now (maybe even literally!) and that's all I care. and for the poster stating that x/o's aren't the only things, I couldn't agree more but I want a stand up coach who is a great role model, AND can coach the x/o's.
