  1. according to their online student handbook, the closest would be Roanoke http://www.grads.vt.edu/student_life/stude.../traveling.html
  2. If the Huskers manage to pull out a win on the road in a hostile venue versus VT, with the inexperienced bunch we've got on offense, then WE CAN CALL IT ANY OL' THING WE WANT TO CALL IT!!
  3. It might be August or September, or sometime after his season starts. So, patience is a virtue. How dare these young men keep us on hold like this?! Still, I think we have a very good shot -- he's visited several times. He must like what he sees/hears or he'd have moved on and never looked back.
  4. I've been meaning to do this and the Grading Pelini thread reminded me. So, what do you think of the assistant coaches after 18 months together? Shawn Watson Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks My grade: B. I think it took him too long at the beginning of the season to figure out how to use personnel, but did eventually. Carl Pelini Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line My grade: A- Suh is in a class by himself, and his continued development should be exciting this year if he remains healthy. I expect great things from the line this year, and not just against lesser competition. Pierre Allen stepped right in for Turner and I don't think we noticed a big dropoff. Tim Beck Running Backs My grade: A-. Would have liked to see what Helu could do with more responsibility. Ron Brown Tight Ends My grade: A+ -- I had my doubts about this guy, but I just love him now. He loves physical play and appears to be developing some serious talent at the TE position. Barney Cotton Associate Head Coach/Offensive Line My grade: C-. He has flat out admitted that the players knew more than him, and has been quoted by Slauson on a number of occasions that he doesn't care about technique. This is an eventual recipe for not nice things to happen to our inexperienced QB's. I'd give him a lower grade, but the offense did ok despite my perceived lack of teaching. Mike Ekeler Linebackers My grade: B. He wasn't exactly working with a stacked deck last year and I hope now that he can develop and utilitze the guys who had redshirts. He did turn Glenn into a very solid LB, so that gives me hope. Ted Gilmore Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers/Recruiting Coordinator My grade: B-. I'm disappointed in WR development. We have serious WR talent on the roster (IMO), but no one seems to step up to cement their position. Nate/Todd were awesome but not even close as the potential of some of our other scholarship WR's. I can't quite figure out why that is, and I have to say it goes back to coaching. Let Ron Brown coach these guys and see if there's a big difference or not. John Papuchis Defensive Ends My grade: B+ -- needs to have the ends become a presence. Marvin Sanders Secondary My grade: C+. Our secondary and pass defense did not improve. How few int's did the secondary have?! This is a guy I expected great things from -- Sanders, please don't keep me waiting. Note: I reserve the right to change my mind on my grades if someone points out something I didn't notice/think of, and after the season of course.
  5. Down on the depth chart or not, you still need guys like Mason, IMO. They can infuse a different mentality. I think we can all agree we had been lacking physicality and effort for the past few years. I was thrilled with his commitment and will be sad to see him go. But, it does free up a scholly so I'm not completely upset by it. Good luck in wherever life takes you, Mason!
  6. I'm with you all the way on this one. I expect huge things from this team NEXT year - that's the first time I have been able to say that in, well, over a decade! 2010 features a weakass non-conference schedule and then get MU/CU/KU all at home next year. Our south rotation features A&M which I'm not sold on yet, and OKLite/TX, both of which will be losing their biggest play makers between 2009/2010 where we will retain the majority of anyone who steps into those roles this year. Certainly each team will have replacement studs, but it's hard to go full boar with the new guys right out of the gate. And, damnit, we are DUE to beat Texas. I think they do about average this year, but I still expect to see continued effort and execution improvements this year and the lack of blowout losses. I'm sure a lot of people won't be pleased with another 8-win regular season, but be patient. If we have only 8 wins next year, then I'll be extremely disappointed in the direction Bo is taking them. (Although, still way better than the alternative!) If I am wrong about this year and we get more, trust me, I'll be elated and more than happy to admit being wrong.
  7. Not even - there is always the work-release program.
  8. Can't wait for the Colorado St / Wake Forest National Championship game. Now, THAT's what I'm talking about!
  9. I know they are young. Doesn't mean they are not going to be good. It funny how some fans claim your DB's and LB's and WR's and QB is going to be fine even if they are young, but it cannot happen at KU. I personally never said anyone was good (or bad), just presented information. Besides, this time of year we are all undefeated and equally optimistic that our replacements will improve the team. I personally want to see some games before I make any predictions. Even then, I will get them wrong, I'm sure.
  10. FWIW - Steele has a "blog" where he lists the o-line starts for every team. http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/June09/DBJune2.html Nebraska's about the middle of the pack, while Kansas is near the bottom of all the NCAA. Oklahoma is pretty far down the list as well. EDIT: Adding another link to sacks allowed from 2008: http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year...ed&site=org KU ranked 96th. (Nebr ranked 43rd).
  11. and is now with the team http://www.newsok.com/ou-football-justin-c...dline_ou-sports
  12. No, ladies, the bathroom is THAT way.
  13. I think he took a big step forward and finally asserted himself during spring. And, I would have been quick to (possibly) agree with an improvement but geez, they keep losing guys.
  14. Reeves absolutely positively looks the part. It's already got me licking my chops!
  15. I, too, enjoy the different points of view and hope they all stick around and keep it coming. (BTW - Those LJS blogs are completely unreadable garbage). I am one of the few that has absolutely no animosity towards any fan base. That said, did I read earlier in this very thread about a Jayhawk trying to say that they almost beat OU in Norman and ask how OUR D-line did? In what strange universe does being behind by 21 with less than 2 minutes to go against OU's backups, and losing by 2 TD's constitute a near win? Considering OU had their season high 674 yards of total offense, including a school passing record versus KU should be of no concern at all, right? Truth is, they moved the ball nearly at will on both teams, and capitalized better in the game against the Huskers. Much much better. Much credit goes to the Jayhawks for fighting and clawing till the end, but no, you did NOT almost beat OU in Norman.
  16. Either Kansas or Missou, and preferably both. I have grown very tired of losing on the road to those two teams. Plus, it would set either or both back on their quest for the North. oh, and everyone else, too.
  17. got carl? Oh man, I just laughed pretty hard thinking about that video. I need to dig that out and watch it again today! The basis of my user name! For anyone reading this who doesn't know about it, here you go: http://www.cornnation.com/2008/9/27/623073...trust-carlfense
  18. I loved this in one of the comments, ... my first reaction was that this is the beginning of changing "Ten wins, no excuses" to "Ten excuses for not winning"
  19. Holy chit - yes, he does look fast! I think I'd take still take Gabbert at the QB spot, and get this Robinson kid in as an ATH, with an opportunity to try as a QB. If he can win a spot as a QB, then even better.
  20. I'm going to play spoiler here: By virtue of "reverse engineering" his preseason Top 40 on his website, I can say a few days early that Steele ranks Nebraska 22nd in his preseason predictions. He also thinks the Huskers will be in the Big 12 Championship Game despite some of the shortcomings. In any event, gotta just hope he's right with his big 12 predictions two years in a row!
  21. USC isn't on that list Ok, I can't believe I actually went to Myspace (can't stand it normally), but... yes, USC was there. Plus, the page said "ME AND MY BROTHERS DREAM SCHOOLS" I am assuming that's why Memphis and Kansas are there, since I gather his brother plays basketball.
  22. EDIT: this doesn't show up right for me, sorry if it's chopped up. Summary: You'll hate what you see on the field for the spring game, but I'm begging you to come witness it anyway.
  23. Scott Frost, Lawerence Phillips, Sam Keller.... (sometimes its easier to like them when their on your team) Actually, no, it doesn't make them easier to like when they are on your team. I didn't care much for those guys listed either. After I went on my rant, I realized you were probably joking, but eh, I still got it off my chest anyway.
  24. Wow my bad! didnt see Shipley already listed at number 18. besides the top 4 i have listed, who's gunna be the last of the five to fill out this list? Dez Bryant will have to be in there somewhere.
  25. Well, SOMEONE is lying. Please let it be Cody Glenn who's lying because if I ever found out anyone in the administration was, I would then forever question the integrity of the whole AD office on down. I am not one to tolerate lack of integrity, fraud, deceit, etc. no matter how "holy" the shrine. Either way, the actions of one damned player has jeopardized the whole team. Way to go. Good luck in the NFL and good riddance, Cody.
