  1. SkrMin8r...... I agree with all you said, but how did I miss the boat? I stated in the original post, near the bottom that if PJ was to come to NU, he would need to get a great D-coordinator..... Not trying to argue, but just asking what boat did I miss? He would be a perfect fit.... He runs the triple option like a science and he also knows the spread from his days in Hawaii..... If he comes he, he can use the talent on board and take time to decide what direction to head in the future, which would determine recruiting... I want PJ.....What boat did I miss?
  2. When I started this topic, no where in the post was anything said that a quick hire meant a "hurried, not thought out" hire....... Absolutely, TO needs to find the best possible person out there, regardless of how long it takes.... My point, or question is that I hope TO is already evaluating and possibly (behind the scenes) putting a very short list together of guys whom he wants. As soon as he can "legally" talk to any of them, I hope he gets it done early...... the new coach needs time to recruit or "re-recruit" some of the talent that has decommitted. I agree to a point that one bad recruiting year might not be as costly as it used to be..... With all of the young talent around the country, a program can win with Fresh/Soph (Florida for example last season).... but if you combine a bad recruiting class along with talent within the system that doesn't fit the scheme of a new coach, could be costly !!!!! Then agian, will Husker Nation have the patience to let the new coach survive? I think they will, because I believe if BC had the nuts to fire Coz, Husker Nation would have been okay with keeping BC and seeing what happens.
  3. Once the official announcement has been made.....how long before TO makes a hire...... I would like to think that TO is doing all of his homework now, instead of doing what Pud did.... Hopefully, TO will name a HC within days of firing BC..... please do not wait 2-3 weeks and lose recruiting time....
  4. First, let me start by saying that I love Turner Gill and was/am a huge fan of his..... I felt he needed to stay on the staff and was really disappointed to see him go..... but, I am not sure that I would be very excited to see him as our next head coach.... Yes, he is popular in the state of Nebraska, but he doesn't have the national recoginition that you would want at a big time program like NU..... recruiting may suffer a bit...... I love him and everything he stands for, but I'm not sold.....
  5. PErsonally, I agree with Mike'l Severe (1620 the zone)....... I would love to see Paul Johnson as the next HC at NU My reasons to believe: 1. Triple option is completely deadly at any level.....many of the play-offs teams (HS) in Iowa still run a the double wing set, which is essentially triple option football.....deception and guessing.... His offensive numbers are amazing with guys who don't get recruited.... What if he had top notch athletes, not top- notch military students with perfect ACT scores..... 2. There is no way an opponent can design a defensive scheme to completely shut down this offense with only 1 week to prepare.....virtually impossible....especially if your QB can throw the ball a little.. 3. TO understands the history of NU football and how the option was the basis of the entire success of the offense.. 4. TO also understands that the only team that he couldn't consistently beat was Switzer at OU.... who ran the triple option - Johnson has taken the Switzer/Osborne option and taken it into the next century....... Yes, you will still lose games....not saying it is not going to get shut down on occassion.... Reasons to not believe: 1. I am not a guy who is trying to live in the past..... I was actually excited with the West Coast Offense. I love the crossing routes and the short passing games, when it is clicking.. 2. Johnson would have to bring in a very good defensive coordinator, because his Navy teams have givin' up a ton of points...
  6. I wonder if we have a chance to lure Rich Rodreguiz (sp) away from from West Virginia.......He was ready togo to Alabama, but changed his mind at the last minute.....probably becuase of guys by the name of Slaton and White..... West Virginia runs a great offense, with a lot of spread/read option from shot gun.... fun offense and a very good coach.. # 2 Bill Cowher.....not a chance in the world, but I am a life-time Steeler fan..... #3 From the original list on this thread..... Johnson from Navy.... bring in the triple option to a power like Nebraska with all of our $$ backing.....look at what his offense does with guys that are truy "students' first... His hands are tied with the admission requirements...what if he had "athletes"..... He would need to get a huge D-coord... #4 Shawn Watson....... OC at CU during a number of Big 12 title runs.... I just like this guy.
  7. After I saw how BC lead .....or should I say, "walked away" from his team as they entered the field Saturday, I will now officially say that BC shouldn't see another day in Lincoln...... I am a friggin' coach and live football 365 days a year, and I could just explode watching BC leave his team hanging in the tunnel at KU...... He should be gone....NOW ! As far as this thread, I stand by my initial remarks that are being debated, I would like to know what "question I should answer"...just for debating sakes, but yes BC SHOULD BE GONE TODAY !!!!!
  8. Junior, what in the heck are you talking about.....some of you guys are so up for an arguement, it's crazy.... BC didn't mismanage BEck....BEck is a complete flop and farse.... he was spoiled, un-disciplined and was a baby.....He has really panned out once he left, huh...... don't even tell me he should have played instead of Taylor....or in your opinion, did BC sh#t on BEck by bringing in Taylor? Everyone in this state and in the national media though Keller was the next best thing...hell, espn had him on the Heisman watch....so don't use hind-sight 20-20 BS with me....... He didn't sh#t on Ganz, he brought in a guy whom ALMOST everyone thought was a GREAT MOVE.... So, tell me what question am I supposed to answer....
  9. Husker 37......... by having a QB in your system for 4-5 doesn't imply that you will have a winning season, only every 4-5 years.......look beyond your nose on this one....... Texas Tech !!!!..... You bring in guys who learn the offense.....sit and wait their turn, and then when it is time for them to step in, they have the offense down to a science...... if you are lucky, once in awhile, you will get a redshirt jr. who has 2 years to play.... Tech just keeps marching out jrs/srs who know their system very well, and keep putting up huge, unrealistic numbers...... not just every 4-5 years....... Yes, Tech hasn't won the South, but that is a defensive issue, not offensive, which is what this post is concerning.
  10. I don't disagree with you...... by wins and losses and performance and perceptions, this program is much worse off now than it has ever been.... If anyone reads the original post, I stated that BC has made many horrible, dumbass decisions and his biggest mistake is not having the guts to fire Coz.... The HC isn't in charge of "developing talent" as many of you state.....but, his job IS TO BRING ASSISTANTS into the system who CAN..... It may come to a shock, bit HC serve as CEO at most major colleges, and the ASSISTANTS do a majority of developing talent.... He needs to clean house as I stated....... Give Watson the play-calling green light, which he is starting to understand......... and continue to recruit well, which is what he does well.... This was all my comment was referring to......... I know good and well BC and the staff are history, but I just said that i wouldn't lose a ton of sleep if TO decided to retain him, if the above conditions were met.... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN THOUGH, AND WE ALL KNOW THAT..... this was just meant to be a discussion thread.... Still would like to see a high school stud QB get 4-5 years in this offense..... could be deadly with an experienced QB...... Taylor was average at best as an athlete, but won Big 12 player of year in, YES, BC's offense.... He didn't win it on 'TALENT ALONE", because he isnt' that talented......so, the system must have something to do with it.....
  11. So, OT doesn't count.....total points..... Heck, OT should count more....big time defenses step up in big time settings.... OT, national TV, conference game....... I think KEntucky and Bama are realistic arguements..... I said that Pelini is better than who we have...... not going to dispute that, but when people turn my opinion into personal attacks, I give more food for thought.... I am not convince Pelini is the right guy for the job..... He may turn into be a great HC and coach of the year..... I hope so, and I hope it is at NU, but as we speak, no one can honestly give me a reason to think that he is the next coming of Osborne, Stoops, Meyer.... And don't give me the "fired-up" HC not afraid to speak his mind crap....hell, BC called OU f- hillbillies and slashed throat to officials.... you need more than fire and passion to coach....believe me !!!
  12. NP.......my getting "rocked" was in reference to Alabama game...not season....relax a little......... Yes, Bama wasn't moving up and down the field, but on big plays.....why weren't players in the right position as many of you would argue about NU ??? And LSU defense has not played exceptionally well against top 25 teams..... gave up a lot of points vs Kentucky and BAma....... easy to look GREAT when not playing elite teams, huh..... Yes, Pelini is head and shoulders above who we have, but some of you need to relax and quit throwing darts out of anger..... I would happy if Pelini is HC, but absolutely NO GUARANTEE that he will be successful.... no experience, hot-headed, and not politically correct at times and could say things to bring negative publicity to NU......but hey, Win at all cost baby.... huh.
  13. After reading about the NU basketball game last night...playing ugly vs a very bad Div. III Weselyen team, I kind of think the score may be EXACTLY the same...... would be kind of funny...
  14. Hey, at least I had one person kind of see my point.. I am sure that the entire staff is gone ASAP..... I have said this many times in other threads, I just threw something out there..... Hey, if I get flogged, can I strap a CU fan to my back?..... (reference to joke on another thread)... No one responded to Norton Jr. though.....Pelini's D is getting rocked, Navy barely beat a HORRIBLE ND team, and Leavit's South Florida team just got beat AGIAN !!!!.......yes, they are all probably better than this staff, but they don't "walk on water" as some of you people think !!!
  15. Yes, Gabbert may be gone for now.....remember, Nunn decommited after Frank left, committed to Wisconsin, and then re-committed to NU.. same could happen if BC stays..
  16. Okay....here I go.....I understand that by saying this, I am strapping myself into a hypothetical electric chair and will get barbequed by most on this board...... but hey, I've been there before Personally, I will not have a problem if TO retains BC and Shawn Watson...... Let me finish.. I think that BC has finally realized how to use Watson and will only continue to give him more responsibility, if not all of the play calling next season..... If you can take a back-up QB and go on the road to a top 10 team, who is only allowing a little over 6 points a game, and yet score 39 points, offensively...we played fairly well..... I understand he has made some dumbass decisions this season....but he has consistantly been forced to coach from behind or has handed the defense a lead that they can't keep..... I would like to see what would happen if a QB (top notch) would have 4-5 years in this system.... he has tried, but had to settle for Daily, Taylor (got better after 2 seasons), and Keller (1 yr).... He has also lost 2 guys Freeman and Beck do to personal issues out of BC's control.... What would Gabbert/Witt/Lee be able to do if they were in this system for a long period of time.... Now, Coz must go, as of 3 weeks ago..... He shouldn't even be on the team bus home....should be a case were Coz and Elmo are co-staring in "Planes-Trains-Automobiles" trying to get back to Lincoln...... I wouldn't lose any sleep if BC and Watson stayed, recruiting class comes back/or stays and we bring in a new O-line coach and totally clean house on the defensive side.... This is not a "coaching search" topic, but has anyone thought about Ken Norton Jr. as a possible D-coordinator (LB coach at USC, I believe).... a lot of name recognition and west coast ties... Okay, flip the swich to ON, and fry me.....
  17. I do not need any "rumor" mill to tell me that BC is gone........ of course, I am the one who started the topic of whether or not TO would keep BC , and the fact that it wouldn't surprise me... BUT....after a few weeks, it is very, very, very clear that BC is gone...... the writing is on the wall.....if BC was going to keep BC, he would have come out and said it as soon as the highly touted recruits started to decommit.... (Gray, Gabbert, etc..) The fact that these guys have walked and TO has said nothing, is enough for me..... BC is out...... and the fact that Kuli was an LSU favorite and is now with the Huskers tells me that as soon as he is able to announce, Bo is in.... not that I agree with all of this, or disagree , but I think that 2 + 2 = 4....
  18. HANC

    OT Dan Hoch

My brother, who lives in Harlan, and coached Dan in baseball, told me this morning that Dan traveled to Iowa City today to vistit the Hawkeyes......said Ferentz called this week and convinced him to take the visit with all of the trouble in Lincoln.... This was just confirmed on the Hawkeye's rivals site and by "Big Red Reaction" on 1110 KFAB..... can't blame these guys for keeping their options open, but man I hope we make a decision quickly so recruiting can get shored up...
  19. I understand.... and apologize if I came across as labeling the "entire" fan-base.....but unfortunately, this is the sh!t that gets published in the papers and broadcasts on the local news stations across the midwest..... To hear Senior players say that they would rather play on the road, than at Memorial Stadium, the famous "our house".....says a lot about many of the so-called "best fans"....... I know that most on this board fall into the "best fans" category....but I would like to think that if most of us would here stuff like this, we would kick some aSS
  20. I have had it up to my friggin' eyeballs with everyone crying, complaining and all of the crap thrown around... Yes, NU is in dire straights.....unlike anything we have seen since 1961..... but I have been a die-hard, season-ticket holder for years and years..... I also coach football and understand young men....... Yes, BC will probably go after the season.....Yes, Pud needed to go.....Yes, we are probably not going to go to a bowl game, unless we "upset" 2 of the last 3...... but, I am getting sick of some of the crap that I am reading in the papers and on this board.... Did anyone read the quotes from Mo and Bowman saying that they would rather play on the road ???!!!! saying that so-called fans yell crap from behind the bench or outside the stadium, such as "you guys don't deserve to have an N on your helmet......that is bullsh!t........ Anyone that would say that crap should be punched in the friggin mouth.... and I am sure that a$$holes like that sure sing the fight song..."all stick together in all kinds of weather"....whenever we win.....makes me puke..... If I am a recruit, I tell the fans to kiss my a$$, I don't need to hear that bullsh!t if I don't play well..... I'll bet that most of the people who piss and moan couldn't even go out and play a competitive game of flag football, yet, they will yell crap like that to 18-21 boys who decided to come play for the "best fans in the country"....chicken sh!t....big time.... I am extrememly frustrated with the season, and the heart-wrenching loss to Texas today...but, this is when we will see who actually are the "best fans" in America..... or who just likes to get on their PC's and "vote" during polls on ESPN..... Show up, support NU, and if not, shut the F#C& UP !!!
  21. I am asking for a little insight from people who follow this a little more closely than I do..... I have been extremely busy with my high school team, so I haven't been able to focus on recruiting like I would like to. Wasn't LSU very high on Kuli's list........ I thought that I heard that Kuli had "dropped" NU down his list of potential schools with LSU being more likely than NU..... Then, out of nowhere, when other recruits are dropping like flies, this kid commits to NU....... Does this imply that maybe he was favoring LSU becuase of Bo, and just maybe, Bo gave him a little "insight" on where he may be coaching next year...... Just a thought, and wanting a little more info. from some of you more informed guys...
  22. I know that someone has already started a "similar" topic, but this is not a poll..... My question to Husker Nation is how many people believe that TO will let BC stay on board? I am not suggesting that I agree or disagree with the idea of keeping BC ,but only asking what you think TO will do. IMO, I wouldn't be shocked to see TO keep Cally..... Remember that TO was "heavily" scrutinized early in his NU career and many called for his head. (yes, I understand that his record or teams never sunk to this level)..... Also, remember that TO entire philosophy about why NU build the "factory" was because of the coaching stability...TO may let BC stay, but heavily suggest that he shake up his staff (DC, etc....)....... Just wondering if anyone else thinks that TO possibly keeps BC?
  23. I was just wondering if this is a legitimate possibility, although it has RARELY been the norm.... In my personal opinion, I feel as if the defense has totally givin up on Coz..... As Matt Davidson said last night, the players aren't playing together and they have NOT BOUGHT INTO THE SYSTEM... agian, someone mentioned the lack of emotion prior to the game, a buddy of mine (KChusker) said that Grixby didn't even "pile jump" as the team huddled to leave the field at pre-game.....this has been a Grixby tradition since day 1 of his freshman year.....has he lost desire, along with everyone else.... If this is the case, the ONLY WAY TO COME OUT OF THIS FUNK, is to make a change... and to do it NOW... is it rational to replace a D-coordinator in the middle of the season, or would it only make things worse? I feel as if might "spark" some inspiration into the team..... the problem being, at this point, you must hire interim from within, and we don't have anyone to fill the void on stafff.... Coz coaches LB and calls D...... No one else on the D-side of the ball can take over D-calls and LB duties along with their already assigned duties..... kind of stuck behind the 8-ball..... I'm afraid that the team has quit on Coz, and will NOT be bowl eligible without a change, but HOW !!! We could go "outside" the system during "Bowl preparations" and bring in a new face to get aclimated, and recruit, but what happens NOW....
  24. I am not trying to enter this debate anything, but it seems to me that jjamuss, you are contradicting yourself a little bit....... if this is America, and you are allowed to voice your opinion without getting "piled on", then how come Octo isn't "allowed" to voice his opinion without guys like you "piling on" him? Maybe you would like to boo the team for "letting you down".....but guess what fans that "boo" are REALLY LETTING THE TEAM DOWN..... doesn't sound so good when you look at it from the other side..... I am a coach, and a NU alumni, season ticket holder since 1990 and have been to almost every bowl game in over 15 years, so I know I deserve an opinion, and the people that boo should have their ass benched from coming to the games...talk about fair weather fans ??? Don't give me the $$$ issue....if you don't like the team, attitude, coaches, player comments, feel free to spend your "hard-earned" money elswhere...... this is not the NFL.... and unless you are directly paying a person for his/her services (boss-employee), the players owe you NOTHING !!!!
  25. Last week I spent all of my time defending Coz to some extent...and now I am responding to this thread If the situation ever arises.....not saying it should.....YET....but if the trend continues... I agree with a few people ahead of me. 1. first person on my list is Monte Kiffin....come home, finish career...and this would help BC's image at little 2. second, I still persue Marvin Sanders..... 3. I actually don't disagree with the Dan McCarney idea...he can recruit and motivate....
