  1. I think that how an opposing team plays in Blacksburg, their talent level and how well they are prepared has far more of an impact on the outcome of the game than the time it is played. I never said that was the BIGGEST factor, or the ONLY factor. I would rather have VT in Lane Stadium earlier rather than later. Like UGA said. You should be glad the game isn't Tuesday at 9:45am. Cannot remember last time we lost one of those games. (just messing with you all - it will be a great game no matter the time).
  2. Against a top team like NU we have to be prepared for anything. We have lost three home games since 2005 (2005 Miami, 2006 Georgia Tech, and 2007 Boston College). Miami game was at 8pm, GT at 3:30pm, and BC at 7:40pm. So with three home losses over the last 4 seasons two of those have been at night. With a fired-up Husker team I think Lane Stadium will be a nice advantage, but with two strong teams anything's possible....
  3. When will UT schedule the Hokies? They have played USC, LSU, Nebraska, but Mack Brown won't play any tough teams! They did take on Ohio State under Mack and did well (both times).
  4. Well I didn't think Tech's offense was good enough to win in Lincoln last year...but they did. And honestly, if Nebraska makes the same kind of stupid mistakes in Blacksburg that they did in Lincoln last year they won't win. HuskerJen, I think we both know that the NU team and coaching staff will be a year wiser and mature by September 19. I expect NU to be waaaay better this year, and I hope our team will improve as well. Our offense has obviously not been great lately, but luckily our type of football manages to make great teams look bad, especially at home. Not sure why I am so excited about these non-conference games, but I think having a chance to play an NU team on the rise is exciting no matter what. Hope to see many of you in Blacksburg
  5. 1. It'll be a great game. 2. It'll be close, again and will go down to the wire. 3. The Huskers will be much better, especially on defense, this time around. 4. The key for Nebraska to win this game is to prevent, or severly limit, the ability of your QB to scramble. 5. The team that runs the ball better will win. VT runs the 40 nickel defense and will have home field. I think this will be a BIG L if the offense is not strong in the running game. It's hard to run vs V-tech, but this is a test to how strong you will be because no Big 12 team, save OU or Texas will play the run as strong as the Hokies. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Hokie fan.... I go to ALL away games, my ex-wife told me it would be her or the Hokies (guess who won???), but if we were to lose a game next year I would by far prefer it to be to the Huskers (don't think it's going to happen, but if so I can live with it). Some of the main reasons why I like the Huskers in 2009: 1) Still miss the dominant teams of the 1990s (too young to remember the earlier teams) 2) Always saw them as tough, non-nonsense teams 3) My ex wife is a UT alum 4) Great fans - only been to Memorial one time (last year vs VT), but they know when to get loud and when to get quiet on O. 5) Great Midwestern friendliness. If I have to lose to someone I would much rather lose to someone classy. I think folks in Lincoln have that going for them. Is the NU offense good enough to win in Blacksburg? I don't think so, but my vision may be blurred by living a mile from Lane Stadium....
  6. If you don't have a beer in hand in Blacksburg on game-day something's wrong... You should wear your Husker jersey as well. I am pretty sure most of our fans will welcome you with "open coolers" too. Not too often we welcome visitors with 5 NCs on their resume!
  7. Haha. I was just pulling yall's leg. I just want summer to go by FAST! On a more serious note: I love playing non-conference teams as we always know less about their rosters. Checking in on this board on an almost daily basis is great as I get to know the Nebraska team a little better. Of all the non-Hokie boards this is probably my favorite, but possibly also the least hostile.
  8. I wouldn;t be shocked if Green plays in Blacksburg on September 19. If the Huskers could be a better football team in '09 with Green under center I think Bo would be as quick to remove his redshirt as Beamer was with Tyrod in '08. I'm no expert with respect to your team, but Green is probably a more talented QB than Lee by a mile. Haha, I probably opened a can of worms now, didn't I Huskers?
  9. If this kid is going to learn his lesson keep him suspended through the last week of September! I'm just looking out for him.... sounds to me like someone knows they are gonna lose come september....... Haha. Not sure that is going to happen... at least not at home. Last QB to beat us at home was Matt Ryan during his senior year. However, I respect NU too much to talk trash in May so I will leave that to someone else. We have had our share of suspended players as well - although it has been a little better over the last few years.
  10. If this kid is going to learn his lesson keep him suspended through the last week of September! I'm just looking out for him....
  11. That's right! He wasn't drafted to play for the Skins, they picked him as their new VP of ticket sales! (Sorry if I offended you all - could not resist)
  12. I think he should make his collegiate start on September 19, possibly throwing with his non-dominant hand!
  13. Eric Crouch - 51.5% Tommie Frazier - 49.5% Scott Frost - 54.5% Turner Gill - 54% Zac Taylor - 57.2% Vince Ferragamo - 57.5% well crouch ,frazier, frost, taylor didn't play qb after they left nu (and holding a clipboard doesn't count) can't remember for sure but i don't think gill did either. ferragamo was before my time. so 5 out of 6 bad take that as you will. BTW, mebeinme, Tyrod looks a lot stronger this year. Beamer told the press that they put him on an all Runza diet. I can't believe they didn't do it earlier... I am sure his completion percentage will increase due this diet-change.
  14. The one chance we had at having a shut out last year got ruined by our backups in the New Mexico State game. No, I'm sure it was, but like I said this is a message board and most of what is said on here is done just for fun and to fire people up. It's not necessarily meant to be rude, but somebody just speaking their opinion. Just take it with a grain of salt, because I'm sure people on VaTech boards are saying harsh things about Nebraska as well. All fun and games Enhance89, HaHa... We have thick skin here in Hokie-land, and believe me, we are nowhere near as classy as the Husker fans.... In fact, as much as I look forward to having you all come to Lane, I am pretty sure we won't be as "friendly" as you all were to us. I am just giving you all a hard time for calling us Miss Trailer Trash. I am on lots of message boards, and unfortunately most of our fans are busy being obnoxious with the Bama fans and our conference rivals so we haven't been too busy with the Huskers... I am just excited about seeing the Huskers rise again. I was an undergrad at a Big 12 school (doing my PhD at VT), so I really want you to dethrone OU and UT... Sooner than later (no pun intended)!!! As for our spring-game. Tyrod looked great. 180+ yards passing (16-33) with 1 TD and 0 INT. Didn't rush much. But the big news was the play of redshirt frosh RB Williams with 150+ yards rushing/receptions. RB Evans did not play, and I think we are in good shape with the Evans/Williams backfield. WRs were great - all sophs this year. Special teams were horrible.... Missed PAT and FG, but mostly due to poor snaps. Got some extra tix for the fall so I will keep an eye on the Husker fan that gives us the least crap and there may be a ticket available.... Haha Sounded like a good spring game for you guys. Seems like a tough day passing but the good thing is that he didn't turn the ball over, which is always great. You said special teams was horrible, but how was coverage? Do you guys do live special teams (aka punts and kick offs)? We might have some problems on special teams as far as kicking goes. We have very experienced/all big 12 kickers (especially Henery), but our long snapper and holder are all new guys this year. How did defense show up? And how did back up QB's look for you guys? Tyrod had a fumble which was recovered. He went against most of the starting D and since we pretty much have most of our D coming back he did fair. I think he looked calm, but at the same time he did not really "go at it" - i.e., he played safe in my opinion. He looks more like a leader. "ju-ju" (fr) our back-up is the same proto-type and I think he would be as explosive if he had to step in. We don't really have a pocket-passer so they are similar. I think ju-ju had a TD and a pick (which was forced - typical of a frosh...). I guess I should point out that our special teams did well, except for the kickers... The coverage was great, but the snaps were horrendous... I just think the snappers and the kickers need some time together. It just looked a little rough out there. The D (both teams) looks amazing. Despite Macho Harris gone, Bud Foster has some amazing redshirt freshmen. I think some of our fans found that our WRs were "sloppy", but I think they have to consider the pressure that the Ds gave them. At the same time, our O Line did not look great... I am worried about this, and the likes of NU, Bama, and Miami would go at it ferociously I'm afraid unless they improve, but I guess that is the story every year here in Blacksburg. As your D improves and your young O is a work in progress I think our D is about the same while our O is better (especially with Williams and Evans in the backfield). I still think we will win our home games but I cannot wait to see the improvements of your D this fall. I have been holding off on predicting your season, but I am fairly certain you will have one major upset (i.e., win against someone you don't expect to beat), but possibly a loss against a road team that you should beat. You will win the North. That's all I want to say at this time....

  16. Interesting . . . you think that at Missouri will be a more difficult game than at VaTech? What makes you think that? Just curious... Again, I think the Huskers can beat us in Blacksburg, but looking at IBleedHuskerRed's predictions I am surprised that he thinks that Arkansas State and Iowa State will score more points on NU (13 and 14) than what we can do at home in Lane Stadium (10). According to him we will score the same amount of points on NU at home as FAU and UL Lafayette will score on you guys in Lincoln.
  17. So do turnovers not count or what? Not sure what you are trying to get at there. We can throw coulda woulda shouldas out there all day, but the point is VaTech beat us at home. We made mistakes. VaTech made fewer mistakes. That's what Frank Beamer coached teams do... they play solid football and force the team they are playing to play solid as well. (I'd bet 50% of the teams that VaTech beat last year are saying the same thing: "They didn't beat us...we beat ourselves." Bottom line....VaTech won.) And finally, the ACC had more in conference losses because they are a top to bottom more competitive conference. I see them as the exact opposite of the Pac-10. Rather than one great team dominating, most ACC teams can play competitively. I don't know how them not having doormats the likes of KSU or ISU (sorry guys, just talking historically) is a sign that the ACC is weak. Quite the opposite actually. Well Husker-friends. I'm off to our spring-game. 80 degrees and sunny. Beautiful day for football. Will let you all know how we look.
  18. Yeah, I can't imagine why anyone would think VT could beat us. I mean, a team with a returning starter at QB (who is 13-2 in his career) coming off a season where they won the ACC championship game and a BCS bowl game by a combined 31 points. Not to mention the fact that they're 30-4 at Lane in the past five years and we're bringing in a first-year starter at QB with almost no game experience. Oh, and they beat us last year in Lincoln. Let's be honest, FAU has a better shot at beating us. well let's really look at it that returning qb you speak of isn't that great he only completes 57 percent which is average at best and alot of his balls can be picked. and as far as being the acc champs well they won it because they are the best(maybe) and that says nothing.(it's like being miss trailer trash) and they beat UC so lets not pretend that's like beating usc or florida. "it's like being miss trailer trash"... Winning the ACC still makes the Hokie nation proud. Not only do you insult me as a football fan and a Hokie, but also fine programs like Miami, Clemson, and FSU - programs that have a long tradition of dominating college football. As with any conference, the ACC has probably not been where it could be for the last few years, but we still take pride in our teams and the sport we love! I am also certain that most Huskers would congratulate Cincy on their fine season last year. Having been to Lincoln last year (I go to every away game no matter where) I never met a single Husker fan that insulted us, before or after the game. Even after we "stole" a win we had people come up to us to thank us for coming to Memorial Stadium. As for our QB - he has developed quickly and don't forget that he was a true soph when he was in Lincoln last year. He has only started 15 games and has had to carry an extremely young offense. Although I would not compare our team to USC or Florida, we have put together 5 consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins. Not too bad for someone from the trailer-park! I look forward to seeing the Huskers again this fall - in fact, it is probably the game I look the most forward to because our trip to Lincoln made me a "closet" Husker fan, and I will dismiss your comments as a little too much excitement during the off-season. Here's my take on VaTech and the ACC. VaTech is probably the best team just above FSU, but let's not get started on saying the ACC is a great conference. Their a good conference, but out of all of them they are probably fourth best. And we're not insulting football programs on here, we're just having fun conversations and banter as a way to make it through the off season. Insulting VaTech or Clemson is something we wouldn't do/shouldn't do, but Husker fans don't like Miami or FSU, so in that sense we don't really care if we insult them or not. Also, and not to take away from what VaTech did last year, but their BCS bowl game was probably the least interesting of them all against a slightly overrated Cincinnati team. VaTech played a good season last year, and I'm sure they will be better this year like we will be, but Huskers fans should remember this: we only lost by five points and because of a couple of blowhead personal fouls (one being on our coach, and we all know Suh wasn't out of bounds when he made that hit. Had our defense been like it was when we finished the season, we would have walked away from that game victors. Both teams are close in comparison, so neither team is going to dominate the other team. It will be a close game like last year. So saying that winning the ACC is like being "Miss Trailer Trash" is not meant as an insult?
  19. Lol I like the Big XII Championship score..it means we either get shifty and go for two points after a TD or we get a 75 yard sack for a safety. The Texas D will be tough in the Red Zone so I think you will get your 43 points through 12 FGs and 1 TD on the opening kick.
  20. Yeah, I can't imagine why anyone would think VT could beat us. 21. Getting it validated means you have to pay the difference between student ticket value and actual ticket value, so in addition to paying the student, you'll be paying the rest of the normal ticket price to the athletic department. Yes, but I'm referring to the fact that students don't usually ask outrageous prices for the tickets. Many sell them for the $21 student value or just over, and then you pay the validation fee to make them the normal ticket price. However, buying tickets from season ticket holders who are selling them can often be very pricy. For example, if a student sells his ticket to you for $21 and then you pay the validation price, it will be around $60 spent. However, many non-students sell their tickets for maybe $100 or more. Now, that practice may not be entirely legal, but that's how it has been in my experience. And that is very true. On a different note.. Have tickets to away games gone on sale? If not, when do they? And is it better to try to scalp them or get them from someone in Blacksburg or is it possible to try and go through the U? In the past Virginia Tech students could sell their student tickets (although not legally) online, but starting this past season the school started issuing season-passes (one card which you use for all the games) so the students could no longer sell individual tickets. However, students can purchase an additional ticket for all home games if they win the lottery at face value and these tickets go on sale Friday here in Blacksburg so you can expect to see an increase in available tickets online (although I expect most students to hold on to the VT-NU ticket...). These tickets do not require a student ID and are regular tickets. As in Lincoln you can buy tickets from scalpers outside the stadium but for big games its going to be expensive. If you are making the trip from Nebraska you probably should get your tix in advance.
  22. "@ Va. Tech: W 28-14" Not saying that you can't beat us - I think most of us in Blacksburg recognize the improvements under Bo and those of us that follow our team closely know that anything can happen when two good teams meet. BUT, it does not happen too often that we lose by two TDs at Lane Stadium. It is a loud place for visitors and I really don't think we will get outplayed too badly by most visitors. I just can't wait for that game.
  23. Whoa now. What's not to love about a southern belle? Seeing her tooth when she smiles... Wow... ...credit where credit's due. Although my girlfriend wouldn't like that too much. I have to agree with Killer Cacti here... What's wrong with the southern women??? That's one thing I love about the ACC. FSU and Clemson got some hot looking girls!!! Although I had the best time in Lincoln last fall I was probably in the wrong section - the median age was probably 60 where we sat, which was probably for the best since I brought my girlfriend. As for the sports-knowledge of the Huskers, I will agree with Utahutesfan, you all know your stuff!
  24. Cy, an Iowa State fan making fun of the ACC? Now that is comedy! Didn't you lose to Nortern Iowa!!! Mentioning Iowa State in the same sentence as the other BIG 12 schools is funny as hell!!!!
