  1. I seriously doubt it. Last years PPG Ave was astonding. What many fail to realize though, is that the offensive shift at mid season was designed to enable that stat. It is at least as difficult to keep a good PPG with an all or nothing offense (circa NU 07) as it is with an extreme controlled offense that is ineffectual. At least with 3 and outs, you can play a field position game (if you have a good punter) and burn up the clock. In the husker haydays Mcbride had a goal of 12 PPG for his blackshirts, he obviouly figured Tom would find a way to score 13 pts or better. His stats were helped out by a ball controll offense but sometimes that offense scored way quicker then anticipated which ultimately put the ball in the other teams hands more often. The point is, a great offense can sometimes be a double edged sword. Bottom line, holding opponents to 10-15 PPG would be a great feat and almost surely would lead to a BCS appearance type season as it would hopefully entail some success on the offensive side of the ball.
  2. Miami threw the ball more than NU was used to seeing and had alot of speed, but I wouldn't call that team a spread offense. My recollection is they mostly ran 2wr sets and balanced a more or less pro style offense. NU's defense that year was simply not that good (especially against they pass). Miami had never (to my memory) been what at the time would have been called a run and gun team.
  3. Frankly, I'm kind of phyched. If this is competition my daughter faces in the job market, maybe she will move out before she's 40. Actually, the best thing about this is that all these kids antics will be forever emtombed on video. Try explaining how cool you were back in the back in the day once you kids get ahold of this crap. God I'm glad we didn't have camera phones etc when I was young, but then again, I was cool (sure hope my kids never find an 8mm projector though).
  4. Bo is already regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in football. This year Carl is supposed to take on the DC role to allow Bo to act as head coach. It will be informative to see how well Bo's leadership and philosiphies are transmitted through his OC and staff. This, IMO, is the year Bo transends the DC role and truely becomes head coach. Time will tell how good he can be, but to me he seems to have matured as a coach exponentially from his first year and that is exactly what we want to see.
  5. God I love Oz, he is essentially giving Beebe the verbal middle finger and being a perfect gentleman about it. Thing is, Beebe has virually no authority over the member schools and thus comes off as impotent so TO can just remain tight lipped and let him make an ass of himself.
  6. Yes, you are a girl, but relax you can probably find some zoloft in your purse to take the edge off.
  7. I've had a lot of cars in my day. I've been a mechanic and a car salesman. I'm curious about a couple of things here, you say the neon will be paid off in October, so, is this in your name or you parents, what do you plan to do regarding the pay off on that. Also, have you confirmed the diagnosis on the neon ( is it fried or not). So far as brands of car, I think people like to simplify the problem to something like honda good, hyundai bad. It's really not quite that simple, yes Honda makes a great product, but some of the reliability stats are a result of better owner maintanence as well. IE had you conducted preventive maintenance (replaced the timing belt) at the prescribed interval, it would not have failed. My point here is that a lexus generally lasts longer because lexus drivers spend more maintaining their cars. You need to be aware of down the road expenses and plan accordingly (do as I say, not as I do). Along this vein, MPG should be a major concern if you truely put on alot of miles. Be aware also, that your insurance rates will vary depending on the vehicle you choose, not only by sportscars vs sedan but also by class of vehicle, repair/replacement costs, and safty/survivability rateings. It might be a good idea to get a quote before commiting to a particular car. Dealerships vs banks; Brand name dealerships like Chevy or Nissan dealers for instance all use regular banks as well as company finance instraments (like GMAC) to shop rates. Yes, the dealer is making money from these transactions, but if the rates are the same as you can get on your own (and they generally are) it is generally alot simpler to do. Plus, GMAC, Ford Motor Credit, NMAC, et al have first time buyer incentives for their new vehicles. In summation, I've replaced engines, cylinder heads, transmissions, etc in Hondas, Toyotas, Chevy, Fords, Mazdas(don't even get me started on those), and God knows what else. There is no perfect car, so, find something l you really like because nothing sucks more than a payment you can't afford on a car you hate.
  8. Just my humble opion, but I truely believe that Texas thinks highly enough of itself, that it would turn down the SEC. I could see UT forming the basis of a very texas centric conference with all the Big 12 south teams on board, or simply useing the facade of the current big 12 to do so. It wouldn't be hard to sway TCU, maybe Tulsa, possibly one or both of the Arizonia teams into such a realignment. Bottom line, I think UT likes wearing the daddy pants and wouldn't be eager to join a conference wherein it's peers would expect equal footing. As for OU, I think they like where the are now just fine, I would be suprised if they were to ever split with their Red River Rivals.
  9. I have always found astronomy fascinating. The greatest gift my interest has given my is the smallest inclination of scale. To say the least, the universe is pretty f'ing big, I refuse the idea that on limitless planets orbiting limitless stars we are the only inteligent species. That's pretty much the statistical equivalent of winning the lottery twice without buying a ticket. As to visitation, well evidence has certainly been presented that would make it conceivable, but the idea that aliens are slithing around our trailer parks abducting hillbilly''s doesn't fit any logic. That said, man's been around for a lot longer than our history can account for, so the idea of "ancient aliens" isn't entirely unrealistic. Certainly, when we develope the technology to travel to the stars, we will make an impact on life elsewhere.
  10. The problem with the brevity you speak of (Obama=Hitler) is that the debate is over when a Hitler reference enters. Anyone with even a modicum of intellectual ability assumes that to continue the conversation is to to attempt the political equivalent of teaching a mule French. If it was an accurate representation of policy or person it might have the brilliance of brevity. However, it does not. There is nothing behind it. In that way it is the exact opposite of E=MC2. The science behind that equation is so complex that only a handful of people in the world can truly claim to understand it. In contrast, the thought behind Obama=Hitler is entirely non-existent. Those people don't like Hitler and they don't like Obama. Therefore, Obama=Hitler. That total lack of anything approaching rational thought is what the author is speaking against. Articles l I understand the point of the article, and it doesn't fall on deaf ears (eyes?). I too lament the perceived coarsening of the political environ and society in general for that matter. The point I'm making is that it works. The sound bite works because it doesn't require the intellectually lazy to work too hard to get it. However, the idea that one can't or shouldn't communicate intellegent ideas in equally breif and powerful quips is entirely self defeating. The advantage isn't just an appeal to the lazy, but the invitation to digest, internallize and comptemplate. When given a simple idea, and the tools to expound upon it, the average person can often form opinions that are well resoned and to which they ascribe their personal ownership. Articles like this one seem to express the notion that because people might not have 180 IQ , they aren't able to think for themselves. Maybe an "Idiot" like Beck has this figured out better than our well read and doubtless well cultured author does. BTW, E=MC2 isn't so conceptually difficult that a simpleton like me can't grasp it, now when we get into the specifics of relativistic symmetrics I do get a little foggy. Lastly, the very fact that the Obama=Hitler equation has sparked this conversation demonstates that it's presence does not end the debate. If anything, emflameing passions reveals as much about the mule as about his french teacher. PS Stop picking on SOCAL you big bully.
  11. As a student and fan of historical politics, I've got to restate that none of this brand of "mudslinging" (mudraking) is new. Hamilton in particular was scandalous in his speechs and flyers (forgive me I cannot recall what they called them at the time). Good ideas, however, don't require volumes of explaination. The article above uses, I believe 39 paragraphs to express the idea that people are engaged in over the top hyperbole. Whereas the message it combats is Obama = Hitler. Which do you think will better resonate. My point here is that while we may lament at the demise of indepth intellectual discourse, I would remind you that true brillance is in brevity. The Declaration of Independence IE is not a tomb to fill the halls of Alexandria but it expressed the core foundational beliefs of not only a society of men, but of a flegling nation. The Constitution is not War and Peace but contains wisdoms unsurpassed these many generations. Just my opion, but I think we tend to pat ourselves on the back for our great intellect because we choose to speak in long form, but I'm pretty sure that the guy who came up with E=MC2 was at least in our league.
  12. Is my memory failing, or didn't GM get something like 62 billion between US and Canada. Hey, I'd like the kind of loan where I get 62 b and payback 8 b, nice job GM!

A receiver with questionable character to Dallas, that's original.
  17. No, it's not war. It's an occupation. Seems to me that occupation is neccessary to successful warfare. If our troops where I a different country, it might be tough to prosecute operations successfully. signed Mr Obvious.

What did I miss? Since when is Rolando McClain the fastest guy on the draft board, Al Dvis didn't die did he? Someone might want to see if Hell is frozen over.

  20. Hey Ben, lookin for a job?...............
  21. See, told you, no problem. Hey, while we're at it, do you have a QB you could spare?
  22. I'm hopeing this opens the door for Suh, I dread the thought of Bradford as the Rams first pick. I'd much rather they picked up Claussen, McCoy, or even Lefever later on. Moreover, I think this is the best move for Adam, he needs to get a fresh start.
  23. Just a couple of thoughts. These journalists took a big gamble when they agreed to this assignment, to that end, I applaud thier bravery. That said, when you lose a bet, the bookie wants his cash. Sorry guys, you crapped out. We aren't going to shut down Vegas because some guy lost his life savings, you knew the risk. Secondly, Al Quida does actually own a camera or two. So, to assume a guy with a camera is not part of the insurgentcy, is a bit of a leap of faith is it not? Lastly,as a former Gulf War Vet. I would definately favor a policy that sends lead down range when in doubt, after all, I like the idea of living to see my own wife and kids. It isn't like we didn't warn them this would happen.
  24. I"ve been without a couple of times in my life, but at the time, I didn't reallly need it. Gotta say though, I sold Insurance briefly in the early 90"s and there were many very affordable catastropic policies (ones that only kick in when you have major medical expenses like cancer of heart surgury) available. I don't know if these will even be an option for those who can't afford premiums under this iniative or, because all policies will be required to contain certain coverages, we may all be screwed.
  25. It is if your a Rams fan, but not if your Sam's next of kin.
