  1. I am not saying we did not get a good coach and that we took BC because of his recruiting. He was hired becasue he agreed with SP regarding recruiting. That is the main reason Frank is gone. Failure to do what his boss told him was the most important part of his job. Meyer turned us down, he is the only one mentioned that I would have wanted. I truly wanted Patt Hill from Fresno State. But I do not believe he was offered the job. Most did not want the job for two reasons. Poor to non existant talent and depth and too much preasure to win, firing a 9-3 coach was the kiss of death for the job seekers. Frank should have walked or taken another job within the program. Things would have been much better. Chow would have been good, but he is too old and will never have a head coaching job in college IMO. Youth and the ability to identify with the recruits is what SP was after. We have that.
  2. I would prefer we disliked a team not hated. I save all my hate for the terrorists of the world. This is college football, maybe less liked and not favorites is the way I look at things since 9/11. I would guess Michigan is the one I like the least. I have many problems with people from Michigan. I respect their tradition, but just love to see Ohio State and anyone else beat them.
  3. Now there is the loyalty I was talking about. NOT!!!!
  4. Former Fan is a die hard Nebraska fan. He is intelligent and knowledgeable about Nebraska football and football in general. He shows true loyalty to the past and that is not all bad. He just needs to see the program moving forward. As all of us do. He makes valid points, and sees things just a little differently than most. Eventually he will come around or we will all join him. I think it is 90/10 he will come around, but if he is correct I will be one of the first to say he was right. And I truly feel if BC turns this around he will be the first to say he was wrong. Not a bad guy. Just believes in what he thinks. I hope he is wrong and I am sure he hopes the same. He does not appear to be the type to say hey I told you so.
  5. I do not blame Sollich for the failure. I blame the system that was embedded at Nebraska. A tired out of date idea that would not draw top talent. I blame the previous AD for not moving forward and standing behind Frank to make changes. He caused this problem. Frank was in a no win situation from the beginning. I am not a basher of Frank. I look at things how they are and why they happened. I felt Frank needed to go due to the loyalty problem he had faced since taking over the program. Bringing Pelini in was in the long run only going to cause problems if Frank had been allowed to stay. This program had many problems that the average fan was not aware of, and was a major reason we could not get commitments from top coaches or top athletes. This program can not withstand much more turmoil. We need to make a united and strong front to support the team and the staff. Loyalty is a quality fans, players and coaches need.
  6. I am trying to get to the Missouri game. My son works for the University and can get tickets. Just depends on the wife and if she can get off work. If we come back I will have the kids truck and we can try and set up tailgate down there. The parking is wierd but I am willing if any are coming down for the game. Give me a shout at bob@airenetworks.com if you are thinking about going. I will have an answer by Monday nite if I am going or not.
  7. I read somewhere Suh had minor knee surgery last week, is that correct?
  8. Well we were 10-3 with wins over no one except a OKState team that would have beat us later in the season IMHO. We were drug through the dirt by 3 teams that we need to be competitive with. We were not, nor are we now. This goes back to talent and depth. We do not have the depth to be a top tier program and will not for awhile. Get used to it. The previous staff put us here. We lost the defense when Hollowell and Super D left. The other 2 that got drafted quit on this team and program. I have no use for them at all. This year they seem to be playing together but I am waiting for the first sign of a truly competitive offensive unit. We shall see if all the quitters are gone. I suspect we will see the 3rd one from last year chiming in. I hope I am wrong, but leopards do not change their spots. We were left with a QB that could not run any offense, a truck load of people that quit at the first opportunity. This is what the coaching staff fought all last year. We did not have an offensive line last year, nor the year before or the year before or the one before that. Remember the Rose Bowl and our super line looked like it was nailed to the ground. Big fat line man do not do well unless you have dept to replace them when they get tired. Funoti and Villa walldrop had dorsal fins. It has no bearing on who the AD is. It has to do with support. If we pull the plug on BC before he has the time to right the ship no one of any talent will come here. We could not get them to come before. Meyers was the one we wanted. He wanted nothing to do with us. Too much preasure to win with a program that had been blasted for years for not having talent. He turned down ND because the talent was supposedly not there and Florida was loaded. Coaches go where they can win. None felt Nebraska could. Learn to deal with reality. That is where we are. We need the fans to understand this is the only ball game in town. This staff whether you like them or not needs to survive and succeed or this program is done as a major player for many many years.
  9. I still believe that BC is the right guy. Most still fail to realize just how far we are down in talent. Pelini made the statement we had no one on our team that could make the top 3 at Oklahoma. This is from a person some of you admire. We are so far down in overall talent it is unbeliveable. We had one good recruiting class and you expect to wipe away 5 years of absolutely terrible classes. It just is not going to happen as quickly as some think. I do not know if BC will get the job done. But as a program and a fan base we need him to succeed. We need it more now than we did last year. If he is fired who do you think would take the job? What person in their right mind would want this job. None of the top coaches wanted last time, what would their response be now. I do not like what I am seeing on the field either. But we have to establish a solid base. Changing coaches every two or three years leads to the Alabama syndrom. Talent is what wins games, not coaches, when we have talent on par with Texas, Oklahoma, or even Texas Tech then you can scream. We are two years away from that at least. No other major program depends on Juco's and Freshman to make their team successfull. We are in that situation. Until we aren't things are going to be shakey.
  10. I was not terribly impressed with Iowa State last nite. But man Army played fantastic. I very seldom watch any of the Military schools, but really enjoyed the game last nite. I found myself rooting for Army and I normally cheer for any Big 12 team. Ross is quite a coach, I would never have thought Army could be competitive with ISU. Good game.
  11. Thanks Pill, I have family suffering from Katrina, family running from Rita and a cousin dieing with heart failure. Has not been a good month to say the least. Normally I can count on my Huskers to turn things around, that just has not been the case this year. Are you in any danger with Rita, I know you mentioned Beaumont once or twice. I hear that it is headed directly there. I have a cousin that lives near Beaumont and have not heard from him. I lost two cousins in Katrina. I know he is on the road for sure.
  12. I think we will know a little more about the defense after this game. If they hold ISU like they have the others then I will start to believe in them. I still think we are very close to a major butt whipping by any team that truly has an offense. Iowa State beat a pretty good Iowa team that some were predicting to win the Big I-can-not-count conference. I am truly afraid the wheels come off next weekend. We are fortunate to have the two weeks to prepare. I imagine ISU will be favored at our house. This is a make or break game. Unfortunately I think the defense will show what it really is and I do not think many are going to like looking at it. I think this is the lowest I have ever been as a Husker fan. I am afraid the writing is on the wall for a major fall this year. I have my doubts if we will make a bowl game this year again. I know 3-0 is great to a lot of you. I just do not put much faith in it. Sorry for the doom and gloom.
  13. Well unfortunately I was attending the Missouri/Troy game that weekend. The wife's class reunion was that weekend. Hope all had a great time and very sorry I did not get the opportunity to meet you guys.
  14. Former, I note a bit of compassion for the team. I think there is still a lot of Husker in this former fan. No matter out complaints we all love this program. Some are half full and some are half empty. Just depends on how you look at the glass. I truly have more concerns after Saturday than I had all of last year. Hopefully the whole thing was about looking past Maine to Wake Forest, Amato at NCState made the comment that Wake Forest is not a team you want to face every year. You just never know what you are going to get from them. But you will get it to the end, or words to that effect. I would just like to see BC put down the book and get into the game. I just don't think he gets that part of it. I must say that I was not impressed with any part other than the special teams. They were nite and day better to me. OL seems to be more of problem than last year ever was. I am concerned about the interrior DL. I may have just caught the bad parts as I had family in from New Orleans, and was not watching as much as I wanted. I have not had the opportunity to look at the game again so I will bow to you guys oppinion on that. Taylor will get it done I think. I think he just put too much preasure on himself after the drops and fumbles started mounting. I will be at the Wake Forest game. I will have a better idea after that. Still feel this is our toughest game till Tech. We need to get things worked out quickly.
  15. I stated awhile back that I attended the game in Lubbock last year and the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. I truly enjoyed my time with the Raider fans. It was like going back to our early teams. With Bob and Tom on the sidelines. Everyone wanted to win but did not expect or demand to win every game. They really appriciate their team. They stood the whole game and cheered and yelled their guns up from start to finish. It was like being at a Nebraska game in the late 60's through the early 70's. We have become spoiled in our expectations, when they are not met we seem to be embarassed or something. I have stated many times, that Nebraska is not that intimidating of a place to play in. We seem to be a very quite crowd compared to other places I have been. It seems we only really get up for Oklahoma as most of the old timers (Me damit) still feel they are the team to beat for credibility I guess. In honesty I am getting tired of the best fans in college football tag. I want the teams to know they will not hear for a week after they leave. I want the stadium shaking. Those are the days I remember. Those are the days I want back, and maybe another 30 to 35 years would be nice. But from what you guys are saying it is getting worse. I get to talk to BC on thursday, I will mention the complaints and see what his reponse is. Have we planned anything for the Wake game? I would like to put some names and faces together.
  16. Quite geezer!!!!! Hey SWHusker!!!!!
  17. I suggest we all decide it was just a bad game and move on. There were positives in the game. This is a long process, it will not happen overnite. We need to give the team and coaches a chance to perfect their trade. I see it as a little of both. Hopefully our second game will be better and on and on. As many have stated we won the game. Oklahoma and Texas A&M would be much happier if they had. Still think we will be okay.
  18. Most felt when Ty got the axe he was going to turn it around this year. He was running a WCO, or close to. He had the talent there to do it and Weis stepped in and put it all together. I think ND will do well this year, but I think they would have done well this year if Ty was still there to. Same with Zook at Florida. The one question I had about ND was the ability to recruit talent that could make the academic standards. Weis seems to be doing a great job on the recruiting field, but will they qualify will be the question. I still do not feel the talent is at Nebraska to be a dominant force. I think we are still another couple of years away. I hope I am wrong. But I doubt with losses this year we will make big inroads on recruiting. This is a make or break year for this staff I now think. I had thought they would be given 5 years, but I do not feel that now. A win is a win but there will rumbling about it I am sure.
  19. I don't know if it was on this thread or on BigHuskerfan.com. It was in some of the Lincoln and Omaha papers. Started a major arguement over noise and who's stadium was the noisest. I think he said that they had played at Montana and it was the noisiest he had heard.
  20. A young linebacker for Maine made a comment that fired alot of people up prior to the game. He stated it would not be mind blowing to play infront of Nebraska fans. I think he proved his point last nite. Maine came to play and did a tremendous job. I love college football and they showed what is so special about college football. You play the game, there were no excuses, no sniveling about the noise. They came in and smacked us in the mouth and said give us your best shot. We won this game, but trust me Maine won also. I admire their confidence, determination and never say die. Great job Black Bears, hell of a job.
  21. I still think BC is the right guy. The offensive line was suppose to be the weakness last year and they seemed to play better than we expected. I was under the impression they would be much better this year. We could have just had an off night, I am hoping that is what it was, if not this is going to be a very long long long year. We have a lot of injuries, with them coming back I think we will see improvement. I feel Taylor is the answer. Fumbles, drops killed the offense.
  22. I agree with Taylor, I think Congdon is the real deal, Nunn should return punts all the time. Rudd played well and Mckeon.
  23. I did not expect a great game from Nebraska this weekend. I expected a well played game with breakdowns along the way. I expected to handle Maine by the end of the first half at the worst. I expected many freshman to play, which quite a few did, but to have to put the starters back in to save a game against a 5-6 division 1aa team was the farthest thing from my mind. We have major problems. If we played Texas last nite, god only knows if BC would be alive today.
  24. All are entitled to make comments. Some want to see every thing positive and some want see things negative. Some try to see it the way it really is. I have been a fan for longer than most of you have been alive. I have always supported the Huskers and I will till the day I die. But in honesty I have seen very few games worse than last nite. Needing an interception to stop a 5-6 division 1aa team very late in the game is a disgrace. I could careless if Oklahoma lost or Texas A&M, or who they played. I do not send thousands of dollars to them. I do not truly feel this is a coaching problem, I still feel it is talent based. If play continues like last nite we will be lucky to match last years wins in my oppinion. Refusing to see where we are is up to you. Accepting the fact that we struggled big time with Maine is hard.
