  1. I knew he was lying, because I don't think any of our players would do that at all. That is what rubbed me the wrong way...you beat us pretty bad and then he goes and acts like a little girl like that. That's why I don't like the guy and I think a lot of Husker fans don't like him because of that...not because he played well against us in the last 2 games we faced him. He was lying about that, so I will lie and say he wants to have Colt McCoy's baby...doesn't feel good does it Chase? Not that he reads this haha.
  2. Why can't we be friends At 1:05 in to the song there is a woman being robbed...I am pretty sure that was taken during one of the Missouri games in Columbia. That is why we are afraid to go down there. And was that you Fro Daddy lookin all pimpish walkin by? Haha just messin buddy. But seriously why can't we be friends?
  3. I've been here a week or two. It ain't gonna happen. Come now Timmy, I have given you guys credit. I believe we do have to give you guys credit for being the better program as of late. But believe me there is a feeling here in Nebraska that we are on track, because we have a coach that actually tries to teach these kids. The thing I think personally is the non-con games do not matter anymore. This is where the season starts so we will have to see who is the best team. Lots of questions on both sides this year and no telling what team either has until the conference starts. Seeing as this is the first conference game for both teams...still lots to speculate on. I don't mind saying it...I don't think either team really NEEDS this win to take the north, but whoever does win will be a heavy favorite to win the north. My reason for saying neither team NEEDS this win is we still need to see what Kansas does...the north is a 3 way race still and lots can happen with the tough games on everyone's schedules. Anyways, I will say it for you Tim...you guys have had the better program of late and if you guys win then you still have that title. We have to beat the best to be the best and hopefully we can do that this year.
  4. Did anyone watch Gerald McCoy or the entire OK d-line? I don't know if I should give credit to Miami's offensive line or what, but OU got manhandled in the trenches. I have to say McCoy is overrated compared to Suh's stats and the way Suh changes the game. I like our chances of owning the trenches against OU, but it will still be a tough game no doubt about it. Anyone else see OU's lines getting blown up or was I just so drunk I was seeing things? Thoughts?
  5. I have to agree with Bob here. Any team can get beat any week by almost anybody. I personally think it comes down to coaching and who is better prepared for the game. I still say we win, but I will say that every game we play haha. Can't wait for this game to get here though...should be a good one to watch.
  6. This is my OWN personal opinion. Am I as confident as last year? Heck no. I was in Lincoln last year and when Mizzou dominated from the opening snap, I was thinking it was expected. Do I think the Huskers have improved? Of course, some.... Do I think Mizzou is as good as last year? Not quite, but the drop off is not drastic. You have to remember this about Mizzou: Gabbert better than Daniel but still maturing. Wide Receivers are plug and play. Not much of a drop off. Defense as a whole is better after last year's disaster. Offensive line is incredibly young and will get better. I believe this is the key point. Additionally, I truly believe Pinkel has some stuff up his sleeve and Mizzou is at home. And Pelini's gum will put out a referee's eye. Well this is my opinion I am interested to see how Gabbert plays against Nebraska...back when Daniel was a sophomore I remember he had some flashes, but he looked like he was inexperienced a bit. Is this going to be the same for Gabbert? I will be watching closely to see how he handles himself...that will really show me how special that kid is cause I think he is a pretty special QB. WR's no doubt that is a Pinkel plug and play spot...TE's though. I don't really see a Coffman type there. And the big one...does anyone really have the game changing factor like Maclin did? You have to admit he was pretty special, but there are guys who can do a solid job no doubt about that. Defense wise...I am still on a wait and see for your Tigers. I like the speed and athletes you have, but how well are they communicating with each other and playing their assignments? I am still on a wait and see here, because it seems like they have a few things they need to iron out so I have to say, "how soon will they get consistent." I agree though that the drop off isn't that bad for you guys and probably improved in other areas. I kind of lost faith in Phil Steele when he placed you guys below Kansas State...I mean really Phil what were smoking when you wrote that. I know we lost to V-Tech, but that game gave me a lot of confidence going into this game...now I am wondering, "how well do we do against a real passing team." Any thoughts from Mizzou fans is more than welcome on what I said.
  7. Actually, he would probably just find some way to dismiss it. No, actually I wouldn't. Another example of a Husker fan trying to stir it. Now...In the short time that I have 'known' knapp, I have come to respect his football knowledge and wouldn't think he would post trumped up stats and such. I would like to think that he would believe me as well. Even though I post some inflammatory remarks now and again, I don't post untruths. Now....since I can't believe him anymore.............. I am curious on your opinion here Tim. What is your feeling on this game? Did you have a better feeling last year than this year? Just wondering what Tiger fans are thinking...Are you guys a little more scared coming into this game compared to last year? Not being a jerk here either...I am really curious.
  8. I hope I haven't contributed too much to that. Unfortunately any time there's a big early season game, there's very little to base things on, so it degenerates into whose opponents suck worse. Strengths vs Weaknesses After re-watching the Nevada game, I'm a little more worried. I've been putting a lot of stock in our players abilities rather than their play. Size, speed and strength don't really matter if you get stood up on the LOS. We've got a lot of work to do. I do think we're talented enough that we might be able to win even playing as badly on the line as we did last week; after all it's not uncommon for us to beat teams despite losing the LOS. But it's going to be harder. That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if we came out and played much better. That could be just a homer opinion, but it's not uncommon the last few years for Mizzou to play horribly on the LOS one week and great the next. What I'd really like to know from NU is: what's the bread and butter of your running game? Misdirection, power-game up the middle, sweeps, all of the above? The key matchup seems to be your running game up the middle versus our d-line. We've played very good perimeter run defense so far, but we could be in trouble if you get leverage out there, but I don't expect that to happen. If you run, it's likely going to be straight up the gut. The other way around, I'd look at your ability to pressure the QB with 4 linemen and drop the rest into coverage, especially if you can effectively defend the run in this configuration. Do that, and you'll need only 20 or 30 to win. If Mizzou runs on you, I think the game's over, but I don't expect to have a successful rushing day. We do a lot of zone read running plays...the best thing about Helu is even when there isn't much to work with he finds a hole and gets positive yards. We also do runs out of the singleback...watch for a toss in this game. We don't use the toss very often, but when we do it looks really good. Everyone is down field blocking and it usually goes for pretty good yardage. I am interested to see how we attack your defense with the run too. Missouri has some speed and it could prove difficult to run to the outside. I am also interested in how our defense does against the run. We have been in a lot of Nickel formation, but have still managed to do pretty good against the run. I personally think it will come down to how well we defend against the pass and this game will show me how good we really are. There are a lot of pass heavy offenses in the Big XII and I don't think we have really been tested in this category yet.
  9. The ref called fair catch interference. The fans probably couldn't hear him because they were (justifiably) booing so loudly. It was a badly blown call. I was listening to the game and on that call I distinctly remember the ref saying it was a personal foul...helmet to helmet contact. Then the announcers went on about how they are calling things like that more. But the call was helmet to helmet. Not sure where you heard that. The TV announcers went on and on about how he wasn't anywhere near the halo violation, and they even showed a slo-mo of the play and showed how far away he was from the receiver. I may have been distracted by beer and conversation, so you could be right, but I was pretty sure they said it was a personal foul, interference with the ability to catch the ball. Since the halo violation is a 15-yarder as well, it seemed like the call they were making. I was listening on huskers.com. They had a stream going so I could listen to the game...I think one guy is the dude from Big Red Wrap Up. The older dude...can't remember his name. So I didn't get to see it which is totally different...usually you can tell more by actually seeing the play. But when the ref made the call I am almost positive I heard him say helmet to helmet, but lol the crowd was making it very difficult to hear. I saw the highlight of that hit though and if it was catch interference then that is just an awful call. Really the helmet to helmet call didn't look like it was a very good call either. Looked like he led with his shoulders. Then after the play the announcers were talking about helmet to helmet and how it didn't look like it, but the refs are really calling those now for safety reasons.
  10. The ref called fair catch interference. The fans probably couldn't hear him because they were (justifiably) booing so loudly. It was a badly blown call. 11. One question I have for Missouri fans is "do you think that the score from last year carries over to this year?" Last I checked the game still starts at 0-0. Not the intent of the question, the question is not a direct question about the score, but about the talent gap that certainly existed last season. The question is meant to ask how has Nebraska closed the talent gap against Missouri over the past year to illicit such a sincere belief that NU will dominate MU in Columbia. Not a question about the points directly. Hope that makes it more clear and promotes debate and conversation. Nice to see so many Missouri fans on here talking football with us so you guys get a . Now I would say that our running game is way better than last year. I was always a fan of Marlon Lucky, but he didn't have it last year. So that is one area we are better at plus, in my opinion, I think our O-Line is doing a great job with their run blocking. We lost two guys sure, but it looks like they have somewhat picked up where they left off. QB wise...the jury is still out there. Which QB is going to show up or was the last game more of a credit to the V-Tech defense? I don't care what conference they are in...V-Tech plays solid defense for any school in any conference. WR's and TE's...there is more speed there, but let's face it, they aren't the most reliable just yet and McNeill has been fairly solid so far, but I thought we would be seeing a lot more from him with a new QB. New QB's love TE's. I will say they are getting much better at blocking down the field, which is what springs big plays. Our Defense is way more solid than it was last year. You can see that even if the opposing team gets the catch...our guys are right near the ball with a couple of exceptions. Breakdowns will happen, because they are still learning. But, so far, they are much less frequent and I would say we still need to see more to get a more accurate reading on our coverage. Plus our LB's are much faster which is good against spread teams. The problem I have seen from our LB's is they don't seem very physical at times. I don't think we need to say anything about our D-Line except maybe our Ends. I would like to see them get to the quarterback faster, but they are pretty good against the run. This game will be a good one and I said in the summer that Missouri and Nebraska are pretty evenly matched. Personally I think it will be one of these teams that takes the North...I just don't know why, but I can't buy into Kansas taking it.
  12. That's exactly how I feel. I like Art Briles and what he is doing down there for Baylor...so yeah I get why they would talk so much about them. They have to get that defense and the run blocking down though for them to take the next step...but good for them. I hope Baylor makes a good showing in all games except for the Nebraska game of course lol.
  13. That is a good point and in my post I made it a point to say that it doesn't mean they don't know anything about football. I am talking more game planning and techniques...most don't know what the heck is going on. Look at a post Tim said about the V-Tech game (I don't have it and too lazy to look for it lol). He said Nebraska's D folded to give V-Tech the game. Personally I say our Offense folded and that is why we lost. I could be wrong, but I understand the concepts and the schemes and I always wonder if guys like Griffin do. They might surprise me, but for now I just don't think they can really know until they strap it on and have played. Granted I never played College football so I don't really know what that is like either. Remember, just because a guy knows a lot about the players and blah, blah, blah...doesn't mean he knows how the team will respond in games and situations. Tim thinks Kansas will win the North, because of their skill guys. Yeah you need skill guys and they will do wonders for your program, but it more often comes down to solid lines on both sides, solid running, and solid defense...those things win championships. That and not being your own worst enemy helps.
  14. Yeah I agree there. I stopped watching ESPN and stopped reading anything on ESPN personally. I get tired of the flavor of the month things they do. What got me was Tim talking about Baylor and I just can't buy into it. Robert Griffin might be a good quarterback, but it takes more than one guy to win games. Don't get me wrong though...there are guys who played football that are now in sportscasting and they know less than Tim.
  15. Well, really we didn't even need the timeouts in the V-Tech game at the end. But I agree we need to get to the point where we don't need to use up our timeouts, because there will be times where we will need them towards the end of the game. I want to comment on the redzone thing though. Shawn Watson has struggled in the redzone all the way back to his Colorado days. In my opinion, this is where we need to get physical and they need to be able to finish. I personally think it is the playcalling, which falls on Wats. Depth wise I like where we are heading. We have a lot of young guys getting game experience and that is really going to help us in the long run. Granted I think we should have a little more faith in Burkhead...we didn't let him run it once against Tech and he is our #2 back. Also I want to go back to playcalling...is it just me or does Watson try to make sure he stays balanced? I mean you could see that Lee was struggling, so wouldn't you try to run the ball more since it is working? This is what I think of when it comes to game management...calling the right plays when something is working and not just to keep your calls balanced. Just things that I was thinking and not calling for anyone's head or anything like that...anyone have thoughts on these things?
  16. Have you guys ever seen Tim Griffin? Or heard him talk? He looks like he has never played football a day in his life. Not saying that can't mean you don't know a lot about football, but this dude is a journalist first. I think he is an idiot...whether he says good things about Nebraska or bad things...I don't care. Looks like a little weasel too. And he goes on and on about Texas and it drives me nuts. Texas isn't that good. With the amount of supposed talent they have...they should win almost every year. But every year they mess up somehow.
  17. so n.e., are you going to winterize your car this weekend? Personally I was going to wait a few more weeks, but with the Summer being so oddly mild you just don't know. No snow until late November, early December. Old farm thing, we had our first morning fog not long ago and that means it will be 90 days, give or take, until we have snow. Might be a cold one this year, but I think you can wait just a couple more weeks Caveman. See what you did...made me forget and move past the game already lol.
  18. I know Carl Pelini said it was the right play to call, but I am still wondering a little bit...why not do a 3 safety or a cover 2 man or something like that? I don't blame Matty for messing up with one play...the team had their chances to put the game away and didn't do it. So to me, yeah that play sticks out to everyone, but we can't blame one guy when this a team game. I still think we should have been playing a 3 safeties covering back or something along those lines, because they had 90 yards to go on that play with no timeouts. So to me I really want to say it was the wrong playcall on defense. Just don't blame Matty on one play when we had so many opportunities to put the game away. Which makes me also say why not punch the ball in when we were like 4 yards away? This is the problem with Watson's offense at times in my opinion...why pass when we are running so well? Let's line up and knock them back and let Legate or some other big guy just punch it down their throats. I understand you sometimes have to fool them with a pass, but when you are 4 yards out...we should be able to knock it in on anyone with the ground game.
  19. I tell you I wasn't even shocked. When we had to punt the ball on 4th and 1 with like 2 minutes left...I knew something bad was going to happen. I just had a feeling and then it happened. That is way too much time and we couldn't shut the door on them. BTW I blame Watson completely for that but that is not the point. Secondly, I don't feel bad. I promise you one thing...this might be the best thing that could have happened to us this season. We now are tested and know we can beat anybody. We can do this! The Big XII better look out, because we might be tough to beat this year for any team.
  20. If you were to ask a Husker fan who didn't see the game (damn PPV) and got all his info about the incident by reading this thread, it sounds like Martin was running his mouth a bit too much and some ASU players took offense and taught him a lesson. As for the refs not seeing it, don't forget that their attention is usually focused on where the ball is. Where was it on this play? Side note: I'd like to see an officiating crew made up of everyone that bashes officials on this thread try to referree a pee-wee game. You'd look like complete idiots... By the way, the white hat was standing DIRECTLY in front of the incident occurring, no more than 15 yards from where Martin and the ASU players were on the ground. Now people forget that yes, "the ref's attention is focused on where the ball is.", but the fans attention is usually focused on where the ball is as well. If fans a good 40 yards or FURTHER away from where this incident was happening notice it, how does the ref not? Now, I know everyone is human, and I am not going to sit here and say I could do a better job then the refs that do this as a career. But the big 12 is notorious, much like the PAC-10 for having refs that seemingly "miss" many more calls than they should. This is not a cry for Nebraska getting screwed either. On Niles Paul's reverse touchdown, there was a block in the back as he cut the corner by one of our tight ends that was so obvious, I actually didn't even celebrate right away because I was expecting a call. The missed calls go both ways. There is nothing that can be done about it, because.... as stated, these refs are humans and until we start reviewing penalties (Which would be absolutely F#&*ing ridiculous), mistakes will continue to happen. Yeah you make a really good point there and I know I shouldn't bash the refs cause hey it happens. I didn't get to see what really happened on Niles TD catch that got called back for holding, so I was really asking about that in case any one here was wondering. I saw the block in the back though on Paul's reverse and yeah those are the calls that don't really bother me too much (even when it happens to us I don't get too upset cause I know that is part of the game). I get upset usually when it is unsportsmanlike and the guys who really started it don't get penalized for it. You could say Martin was doing some talking...but this is football and you can't control the actions of some people but you can control your own actions. Those ASU guys shouldn't have done it. Now I will say to the ASU fans that other than that you guys played a heck of a game. I loved how your dline played and you guys have a lot of talent. So just sweeping this under the rug and ASU played physical at times and grats to them for playing hard the whole game. Good luck with the rest of the season ASU and I think you guys can take your conference.
  21. I was in the Northeast endzone and was watching Martin on the whole play. Both sides were being physical and the ASU guys took Martin down and were on top of him. They were on top of him for quite a while and they were doing something to Martin. Martin was kind of pushing back to get them off, but they wouldn't let him up. So yeah Blackshirt I saw it from the east side and we were all yelling over there for the refs to do something. Sorry to throw this in too, but that holding call on Paul's touchdown catch that got called back...did that flag come like after we scored the touchdown? I mean it seemed like a really late flag to me. And I can say it since I am just a fan, but these refs sucked. Oh yeah and the fumble...was a fumble. They reviewed and still said it wasn't...yeah refs you guys suck and too bad we can't tell you not to officiate for us anymore.
  22. I am not dogging you here man, but if I remember right I thought you can still redshirt a player even if they played a couple of times. I was thinking it was they could play 4 quarters total and then they couldn't get a redshirt. Someone correct me if I am wrong, because I am not totally sure what the number is. Plus you don't have to redshirt before the season...you have so many games I thought, but once again not sure on the rules there. Just saying Green can still redshirt so they didn't burn it yet. It is good to get him some game experience at the start though and I am sure the coaches are on a wait and see...which is why they also put in Washington to see how it plays out.
  23. Yeah I got to listen to this at 11:30 and it was great. I get the feeling that Jim Rome and Bo Pelini are pretty good friends. Bo shows a lot of respect to Jim, so if Bo does then I think we all should. Otherwise Bo WILL find you and snap you in half.
