  1. Hard to read much into this. It's not like the NFL combine where they verify them. Plus it's natural to lose 5-10 pounds during camp.
  2. It's been years since I read the rule but I thought there was a caveat to what you said above. I thought in order to adjust the clock for judgement calls like when to stop the clock after a play there had to be something reversed in the play. Like if someone stepped out and originally the play wasn't called until later would revert back to the time when he stepped out. There were so many what it's in that last drive alone. Wonder what the Bo haters would be like if that game went slightly different.
  3. Last year I felt like we had a solid group of athletes with more potential than we have had with Bo on D. It took a while but I am feeling confident that the youngsters now have there experience to take the next step. I feel very optomistic about the D.
  4. Hey MO Husker... since you raised such h@#% I had the mods change my username. In seriousness, I never really liked my username and thought the new one describes me best.
  5. I'm okay with the laces. I don't think it makes a huge difference either way to the overall architecture of the stadium.
  6. Check out my blog southafricahusker.wordpress.com

  7. I think it all depends on the person. My dad never coached me but I will probably coach my son to some extent. One thing my dad did do is we rehashed every practice in the car on the way home, in a good way. I know that is part of the reason in high school I knew everyone's assignment on every play as a sophomore. As a sophomore RB I was telling senior OL their blocking assignments in the huddle. There is a fine line. I had other friends with similar dad discussions on the ride home that were out of sports and into drugs by junior high. It all depends on what priorities the dad has. If he will put he kid's future first he will be successful. Throw away the I want you to be better than me and the this tee ball game is game 7 of the Series crap. Focus on getting all the kids to their max potential and recognizing that most likely no one on your little league team will even play in college.
  8. Technology updates put people in two categories. Ones that embrace them as improvements and let them enhance their lives and ones that wish things were like the old days. With every new update things at different. That means new negatives and positives, different ones. But once the cat is out of the bag things won't go back. Take the uniform trend. I was always a stick to tradition guy. But once Oregon started it caught on. At that point there were two choices. Change with the times or get left behind. Sure it shows that this generation is more for instant gratification, looks and other shallow things. But when 90% of high school seniors want it you significantly limit your resource pool by sticking to what worked in 1970. If YOU want/don't want to use the new wifi great. But it's a personal choice for everyone to make on their own.
  9. My biggest criticism of Beck is his play calling. Sometimes he acts like a kid playing play station. Just forgets his script and goes pass happy for 2 3 & out drives. Or other times he goes to the well a few too many times. Ultimately these are signs if a new play caller. He gets in game, excited and next thing he knows he has gone a quarter without calling a to to play. That memory comes with experience. TO had it from my memory of his career. Frankie never got it, here at least. Billy showed moments. Beck has too just not enough on the big stage. Let's hope the come to Jesus moment when the staff thought they were fired made them improve their skills.
  10. We are loaded with potential at DT. Sky is the limit for 2-3 with several other high quality players. Just need them to live up to potential and avoid injuries. If that happens we could see the 09 defense return.
  11. I just thought of a way we can get there without having a terrible season. We go 10-2 but miss the conference title game due to who the losses are too. We don't make a BCS game either based on having other higher ranked teams. At that point (as I understand the new bowl rules) the Big Ten assigns the bowls for its teams. They know Husker fans are bored of going to Florida bowls and they are looking to expand the grip on the New York region. In that case why not send one of your blue bloods to the big apple? It's a stretch. Let's all hope it's a BCS or playoff kind of year.
  12. Think a lot of you are missing the intentions of our offense. We (and most other top offenses) rely on mismatches. Catch them with standard personnel when we have a 4 WR set and you don't want them to be able to sub. You get to the line quick so you could snap at any moment. They can't sub and we can dissect their front for the best advantage to us. To those complaining about reading the defense for 5-10 seconds before the snap, defenses hate it too. You get D linemen in their stance so they can't rest. LBs and DBs are trying to figure out what's going on. Get then to over think their assignment. Finally we have several tempos we run. I don't recall specific times we used each but we have. We can go quick, snapping it early in the play clock - we don't often but we do. We can do the hurry up to the line and read the D. We will also run more of the old school break the huddle with 10s on the play clock and snap with 3-5. That actually makes it more difficult. The D can't prepare for one tempo or one style of offense (power, spread, read/option). Biggest problem is this is very complex for our players too. That's a big reason for all of our unforced errors under Bi.
  13. http://athlonsports.com/college-football/college-football-bowl-projections-2014 Surprised I didn't see this here already. This is obviously a worst case for Nebraska. Predict the record that would get this result and who the coach will be for the bowl game. I'm going with 7-5 and Bo. If we win the bowl he skates by. If not he is shown the door.
  14. That's some good spin. Our returns have been crap for most of Pelini's tenure. I think that changes this year. A slight change in punt returns, reduce turnovers a little, defense improves... That could be the difference between a 4 loss season and a 2 loss season with no blowouts.
  15. I really don't care how good Miami is this year as long as we win. We should but we should have won a lot of games that we didn't
  16. This year should be totally different. We will probably run more than in recent years. More option less zone read. All of that will make defenses play our talented WRs differently. As long as we are on schedule (down and distance) safeties will cheat up most plays. The occasional home run ball should be wide open. In obvious passing downs it will all depend on Tommy finding several WRs. If he does then the passing game will be fine. If not then Kenny will be covered and he will force throws and have a 1:1 TD to INT ratio.
  17. It is never as simple as a number in a column. Let's say we go 10-2 in the season, grind out a close loss in the CCG and a close loss against LSU, is that a failure? Be honest. I'm an eternal optimist because of 31 years of being a Cubs fan. Even taking that into consideration I don't see a definite loss on our schedule and that includes the possible CCG. Will there be losses? Probably. But sheer number of wins and losses doesn't really show what direction a team is headed in. Mizzou went 5-7 and then the next season was a win away from playing in the MNC. This game is crazy. I would be fine with that scenario. No blowouts and a close loss in the conf champ and to LSU. That's real progress. But the Bo-haters will point to the constant of the Pelini era, 4 losses. I'm saying more that a 10-4 season wouldn't move Husker nation off the deadlock we are in. We really need 12 wins or 6 losses. Somewhat off topic but I believe there are a lot of similarities between NU '14 and MU '13. The injuries from the year before are a big reason. Guess we will see.
  18. Unfortunately for the divide in Bo-haters and Bo-lievers this could still end up with a 10-4 season. Regular season 10-2, lose conference title and bowl game. If that's the case, hopefully it doesn't include any blowouts. If it doesn't then I would consider this a success and a building block to 2015. I'd rather see an 11 or 12 win season to show definite improvement.
  19. Gotta say I'm surprised to see this type of attention from outside Husker nation. I remember when the recruiting analysts said Rose was too fat and slow to be a 4 star. Been hoping for him to prove them wrong ever since.
  20. By the end of the season, assuming it goes well, we probably have a solid 1 and then 2a, 2b, 2c... Ameer will be great as long as he is healthy. But Imani will be the bruiser, Newby will be the scat back, Taylor will be the backup bruiser, and God help us all if the tank known as Wilbon gets quality PT. We very well could end up with a superstar and then several talented backs with unimpressive numbers. The best part of our backfield for this year will be our offensive line. They could be the most talented unit we have had in years. That will make the running backs look even better.
  21. I figure if I'm not paying money then I won't get as engaged when someone wants to heap on the criticism towards my views. I don't mind negative takes just as long as that's not the only take you have on every topic. Even then I doubt it is going to get to me.
  22. "The game's become more athletic. It's almost basketball on grass." -Tim Beck Dumbest f'ing thing I have ever heard. Pace of play is faster, which is contributing to a more continuous flow than 15-20 years ago. He's not wrong. The St. Louis Rams used to brag that their Greatest Show on Turf was basketball on turf. Find something legit to complain about. People complain that our coaches dont open up in the media enough. They do and you say they are stupid. Let's give them some leash. The only thing that matters is the record this season. Win 11 and they are great. Lose 4+ and they are terrible.
  23. I think it speaks more to the fact that the B1G doesn't have a bunch of returning WR corps with big numbers. And out guys when healthy proved very good. Plus they forgot Alonzo who may be the best this year. I think it's close enough.
  24. I work down here but do get plenty of time for golf. Basically its winter and the high temps are in the 70s. Problem is everyone else plays here so its kind of hard to get on during peak times. MO Husker... I'll try not to ruin your good name (assuming thats what you have).
