  1. No Dave, you just dont get it. 6'4'' 220 lb guys who run 4.5 forties, have 40 inch vertical leaps, and have hands like rubber cement are not talented, they are just big boned.
  2. Im not, im just sick of it popping up at the top of my unreads list. If you guys wanna rehash a topic where no new information could possibly shed any more light on what happened, go ahead. Its your time to waste. The facts which are that TO did retire, we did hire Frank Solich, we did fire frank solich, and we did hire Bill Callahan, arent gonna change, so you might as well get used to it, or start building a time machine, your choice.
  3. I heard a rumor that all of this happened 10 years ago and means nothing in regards to this season. Move on people, dumb topic.
  4. Im glad he yelled at his mom. If I backed down on my word to someone, especially on something this important to both parties, you know who the first one to yell at me would be? Not the coach that I disappointed, but my parents. It should never have gotten that far, and I find it amusing that our not so good sooner friend finds it so easy to give the kid a pass, but finds fault in our coach. You got a scared kid with no class, no backbone, and a set of parents who are gonna let him act that way. Personalities like that dont make good football players. Not when everyone else is gonna be just as big, just as fast, and more dedicated than him.
  5. Sadler can obviously coach. Anyone who can put one guy out there taller than 6'4" in the big twelve consistantly and still win can coach. He did a fabulous job. Now we just need to see if he can recruit.
  6. ummmm.... injuries and lack of experience??? Bo and McKeon are pretty good, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a whole lot of people who think that they have more natural talent than Octo/Dillard. Im just happy we have all of them. Now we just need to find a way to get them all of the field as much as possible.
  7. Name me a legit athlete that played for Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, or Mizzou in the seventies. Colorado had a couple of good teams. Oklahoma was good. No other team in the big eight could have beat a good high school team from now. There is a big difference.
  8. Pre BC: Offense- Johnny Rodgers Defense- No brainer, Grant Wistrom Post BC: Offense- Porkchop Defense- Adam Carriker
  9. I would rather have a clean program than a winning one anyday of the week. With Callahan here, we at least know that the man in charge is going to do everything he can to keep it clean.
  10. Wow, I think that the only thing that this poll proves is that there are at least ten mental midgets who know how to use the internet. We better start looking out, they might learn how to vote next!!! Although maybe they already got that one figured out.
  11. I only remeber one drop last year from Purify... He fumbled once, but that isnt a drop. I know for sure that he never dropped "a few" in any game, and I dont think the whole season either.
  12. If you are gonna give credit to Solich for recruiting the kids that won the big twelve in his fourth year, than you better damn well give him credit for recruiting the kids that went 7-7, and 5-6 for that matter. Callahan recruits are about 0-0 by your logic...
  13. Thank god for you skers... you are my new hero, and I am dead serious about that. I am sick and tired of this jaded generation that honestly believes that everything has gone to hell since they were young. Let me inform those of us who werent around, or who were and obviously have zero long term memory to rely on. In 1972, when TO took over, they guys who played on my high school team way back in 2003 were athletic enough to play for Oklahoma State, or Iowa State for that matter. People like Michael Vick, Randy Moss, Jevon Kearse... these so called "freaks" did not exist. Teams like Iowa State and Mizzou, and Kansas, now have guys with just as much athletic ability as USC, Texas, and us. Dont believe me? See Texas vs. K State this year. In 1972, Nebraska could skate through three quarters of their schedule without ever being tested, now USC, the most talented team in college football, has trouble beating Washington State. You do the math. 11 wins, hell even 9 wins is one hell of a season, and takes some luck as well as talent.
  14. Seriously, go read "Diary of a Husker." If anything the people we have in charge now are more demanding and demand more integrity of their players than did those in the past. On Callahan's team, you are kicked off when you f#*k up. You arent given a free pass, you arent suspended for awhile, you are gone. That applies to staff as well as players. Throat slash? seriously? What the hell do you think the Bobfather was yelling at the opposing coaches/players/referees that we dont know about because of there not being any TV? A fiery Irishman like that could probably string out a few phrases that would make you turn green in the face grandpa. If anything, it is the lack of transparancy that that makes it seem more like the world is a worse place to live in, and nothing is as good as it was. Find me an honest and open AD, and I will find you an unemployed one. Who the hell is gonna donate to a program that endorses Frank Solich, who may or may not have had indiscretions involving female employees in the workplace.
  15. Gin_32 Well see here, what he needs to do is, throw the football to the guys in the endzones, but not the guys in the non red, unless they are playing the oklahomas, because then there are no non reds, only reds, and what we would have was referees and touchdowns......... "shakes head" StuckinChicago wtf gin?
  16. Speculation? Truth? or just douchebaggery?
  17. The Atheletic department gets exactly 0 dollars of your hard earned taxes, so you can shut the hell up, because you are owed nothing beyond what you pay for. If you are really that fed up with the program and those that run it, dont bye any liscensed merchandise, tickets, or donate, and put your money somewhere where it really matters, like the global aids fund, and above all, quit bitching about someone that owes nothing to you. Do I wish there was a little more transparancy, yes, but then again, I would want more tranparancy throughout sports in general, not just here. Seriously, look around and open your eyes. 1 in 10 males in this country are gay. Law of averages states that there are around 14 gay guys on the football team. Wanna force them to come out? How many mips are handed out to young adults in this state per year? I bet one in ten AT LEAST have that on the football team. How many people are fired from an office per year for doing some pretty disgusting and inethical things? More than you think. Ask for transparancy if you want, but you are not owed that. It is our constitutional right as Americans to maintain our own privacy, and that extends to AD's and football players as well. Hell, the players dont even get paid, so if anything, you owe them. Start paying up.
  18. Actually, we have made the AD position the "face of the athletic department." No where in his duties does it include scheduled meetings with the media, nor does it claim that he has to be liked. Bill Gates is the "public" face of Microsoft, and there are a hell of alot of people who dont like him, but he isnt getting fired. The AD is a business man, not a PR guy. He doesnt have to run a coaching search that isnt "embarrasing," it just needs to be a succesful one. I would say that a vast majority of Husker fans are ok with our head coach. We still sell out our stadium, and it makes no difference if you think that you should be notified if the TO complex is paid for, you still have absolutely no proof that donations are down, or that we are in any worse shaped financially as an athletic office than we were five years ago. Your just saying because like so many of you have said, you just dont like the guy. I am a student at UNL. Not a single dime of mine goes to the athletic department, and we are the first place they would go if they were in dire need of funds due to people cutting off donations. You still cannot give me any evidence that says that he is doing his job poorly, and you are making up job responsibilities to back your argument because you have none. Just saying that "I would have heard about it," doesnt give you enough reason to fire a man, epecially since Im pretty sure that you arent on Pederson's speed dial, so I doubt you would have heard about it.
  19. Retarded.... this entire thread is based on a couple of people acting like children. You cant fire a man just because you dont like him. Not only is that against the law, but that is couter intuitive to building a better program. Lets look at facts. What is the AD responsible for? Obviously hiring/firing head coaches (not assistants), Facilities, scheduling, and the finances of the athletic department. He has fired one coach (Solich,) and i think that all of us with at least half a brain can say that we think that was a good idea. He has hired two coaches, (Callahan, Sadler.) Both seem to be doing adequate to excellent jobs, depending on your expectations, provided they are reasonable. He has massively upgraded our facilities for all sports, which obviously includes the new practice facilites as well as moving the soccer team on campus. He has done a wonderful job of scheduling. Our football team has lined up Tennesee, Washington, Virginia Tech, and some other high profile programs, and also has given us seven home games a year, which raises additional revenue and gives us all one more chance to go and see a game in person. As for finances, many posters have claimed that we are losing donors, under funded, and in the red, yet I have seen no numbers. I do know this however, in the last fiscal year, there were two athletic programs in the big twelve that completely funded themselves with no help from the university, and those two were Texas and Nebraska. This would seem to run counter to all of these completely generic, unproven claims. So I dont know about you guys, but if I got fired from where I worked cuz some schmuks on the internet didnt like me, that you can sure as hell believe that not only would I be pissed, but there would be a big ass law suit waiting for my boss the next day.
  20. I would rather have a guy in the upper midwest area than another in Cali... Busch seems to do really well on the west coast and i dont think adding another guy out there would help out at all. We have been unable to recruit big ten area for a long time, and even Iowa is becoming pretty tough. There is alot of talent there, and it seems a shame to just give up on it all together.
  21. Amazing that I am saying this, but this kid might be tough to get away from Illinois. Zook has made it his missiong to lock down the state of Illinois and get the top prospects in the state every year. Mt Carmel is a traditional power that has won several state championships and produced numerous nfl players, including Donovan McNabb. It is also only about two hours from the Illinois campus. This is going to be a tough one, especially since we are not only going up against Illinois, but Michigan and Ohio State, and most kids in Chicago are a heavy big ten lean.
  22. I just wanted to say that I think all of us should send our prayers to Marlon and his family. No one deserves to go through an ordeal like this when they are 20 years old, for any reason. I am going to pray for him to make a full recovery and for his family.
  23. We also scored like 40 points a game during those years... call me stupid, but dont high scoring teams tend to score more, no matter what the quarter? How much did those Osborne teams score in the first quarter? I bet it was 100%...
  24. Gee, Lucky takes almost half of the playing time from the third best running back in this year's draft, and he is "good enough" for you. As for Cody, my facts are straight, if you want to go off of that. Lucky was timed at 4.4 in his combine, and also placed in the top five in every single event at his combine, despite the fact that he was bench pressing against lineman. Not that any of this matters, but you seem to think that somehow forty times in Waco, Texas, two years apart prove that Glenn is significantly faster than Castille. Well then, by the same logic, I trust the combine officials in LA more than I trust your own judgement, so Lucky is clearly far faster than Glenn. Dude, lets face it, guys who know a hell of alot more about football than us clearly see that Lucky is a better all around back than Glenn, which is why Lucky sees the field three times as much. Dont believe me? I will put myself out on a limb and guarantee you that Lucky gets drafted higher than Glenn, and barring injury, will far more sucessful than Glenn in the pros because he has more tools. The facts are this, Lucky plays more, has more yards, has similar ypc, has infinity times more receiving stats, and runs a faster 40 yard dash, since you think that is important. Your wrong, Im sorry if that is hard for you, but you do not personally know more than a single coach at the University of Nebraska, and as well as you believe you know Glenn, you dont know a damn thing about Lucky, and apparantly even less about football.
