  1. Please don't ban me for life for what I am about to say but.... I am starting to wonder if our lot with big 10 officials will be any different than these Big 12 officials. I am in the camp that I don't think officials are getting together before the game putting together a plan of how to screw nebraska. I do think the officials for the most part do not like Bo. My guess is they come into the game with their guard up because they know its going to be 60 minutes of f bombs, screaming and berzerkness. If we are at our jobs doing the best we can, and somoeone is in our ear all the time dropping f bombs at us, going on woody hayes style exoplosions, its going to effect you. you are going to get tired of it. you are going to react. long term, I wonder if Bo's bedside manor will prove to be a liability for this program. I am growing more uncomfortable with the multitude of berzerkness on the sideline. Whatever Martinez did could not have been worth the asschewing he got on national TV last night. there were so many berzerk confronatations with the officials..they are human and will only be told to F off so many times before they are going to start throwing flags. At one point I was wondering how Bo is coaching when he is spending so much time jawing at the officials. Bos average outburst, which there seems to be one every play or 2, most coaches only get to if they get a bad call on the last play of the game and lose...A bench foul last night...really? Doesn't that only happen in basketball? having been around some of these officials, I think the officials would tell you that they know a lot of calls get missed. the game moves very fast, its hard to see it all. they cant go back and see junk getting grabbed on a replay when they are focusing on where the ball is in the pile. that stuff happens everywhere! They dont watch ESPN, read the sports page or come on these boards so they can be as impartial as possible. a lot of them are very successful personally and don't have the time for it. they call the game the best they can. BUT, they are human too and I know if I was an offical out there ...this amount of abuse from Bo would get old quick. I would be on the defensive the second I walked into the stadium. I hope Bo's career does not end like Woody Hayes' did. OK, come after me, but I have said whats on my mind.
  2. I will definitely miss the b12. I grew up with the big 8 so this is sad for me. I will definitely miss being no more than 2-3 hours from about any game with fairly easy access to tix. now? closest road game is Iowa City-6 hours away! I wont be able to sit in the deer stand and listen to games on the radio( I am assuming KC stations will quit carrying the games) and living in KC, all the jawing with the MU, KSU and KU fans. I will miss the b12.Ill bet home tix get harder as well because so many of us wont have the access like we once did. you huskers fans living in the middle of b10 country will have to take over for road games.good for you having better access now.
  3. I have been hearing that from a lot of people. I am an optimist to be quite honest with you. In Callahan's first year I was convinced we could beat OU. But anyways, in response to the above statement: If we are not NC caliber, who is? 1. Oregon? Not convinced they are an elite team 2. Auburn? I think they lose two games when it is all said and done 3. BS? They have a tough game against Nevada. The only thing that they ever prove is that they need to get to a tougher league 4. TCU? The only thing that they ever prove is that they need to get to a tougher league 5. LSU? They have a coach who was on the hotseat last year and should remain there. 6. Stanford? Good football team. Better than us? I don't think so. 7. Wisconsin? I remain unimpressed by the competition in the Big Ten. People talk about our near miss against ISU but forget that Wisky had one with ASU. That brings us to our spot. Are we THAT much behind a single program above us in terms of talent, coaching or level of play? I don't think we are. We could give every single team above us a great game and we could win on any given night. No one stands out this year. take away just 1/2! our fumbles, cut down on penalties and throw in consistency and no one stands a chance against us this year. problem is, we havent fixed these things yet. we are close in this game of inches, but the few last inches are keeping us down.
  4. he is one of us. He deserves our support. some of you were not around to watch him play so I understand you may not feel a bond. I was one who saw him play on saturdays. I had a scoring explosion poster hanging in my room(only us oldtimers know what that is). he was a heisman runner up, played his ass off for us, coached three great qb's at NU for us and will always be a beloved Nebraskan. the video was typical understated , not to flashy,TO. I thought it was fine. I live in KC so I get to see/hear a lot about him as a coach. maybe he wont be a great coach..i do not know..maybe he will.. but as of right now he has NOTHING at kansas to work with. no AD, not a lot of talent, and not excatly a football recruiting mecca to begin with except the last 5 years. even Mangino lost 6 or 7 last year with those kids and other NFL talent before getting fired. I now pull for Kansas ANY time they are not playing or impacting NU because of turner...he is probably one of the best men many of us know. I think his story is still largely waiting to unfold. give him time.
  5. yeah, kinda like we all remember where we were when some big event happened, I remember specifically where I was when KU put that beatdown on us in 07...I was listening to the game in my truck coming back from bow hunting in western Kansas. I was reduced to having to laugh about the game, reduced to bagging KU to score 90 so we might fire the entire coaching staff..which eventually happened. that was a bad year. we have come a long way quickly, and it is great. I agree we probably wont have a 95 team again because of parity in college football and limited scholarships but we can get close and need to strive towards it. BUT.. we are Nebraska. Our expectations, work ethic and pride for our community is high. it shows and it is carried by this football team and coaching staff as well as us fans. This team represents our strong work ethic to the world...Us fans, The university, the coaching staff, and the players have an expectation to live up to...so yes, 9-1(sometimes sloppy, sometimes stunning) is great. but striving for perfection is the endgame. When the fumbles, penalties, and inconsistency stop, i will be happier. You take these 3 things away, and we squarely compete for and maybe win a national championship this year. Its how we win/lose that is as important to me as if we win/lose. Getting beat fair and square I can handle, beating ourselves, giving away games , or squeeking by teams we are clearly better than is not quite as easy on me...as it should not be. I don't tolerate it from myself in my daily life either. I 100% love OUR team, coaching staff, fans and state. I think we are on the right path, but we have unfinished business at hand. GBR!
  6. ......and we know how well 2001 ended. We are a solid top 15 team, but I am not convinced we are better than that. We "alledgedly" may be down to 1 QB at 80%, we put the ball on the rug 5 times a game or more, we beat ourselves most times when we lose, we are heavily penalized and extremely inconsistent, particularly on offense. I think we get to a B12 championship and I hope its OU we face. I think Okie Lite is better than the last time we played them and will have the mental edge for sure. Its hard to beat the same team twice. If we win that game, I would be very ecstatic with a good solid performance in a bcs bowl game. Until the inconsistency, penalties, etc get fixed, its hard to see us going undefeated...and true competitors in the NC.
  7. 16-3 OSU over TU 2nd. that loss to TU is the gift thAT keeps giving...
  8. and NU #108 in the country holding onto tha ball...thank god we have a good D.
  9. KU #108 in the country against the run...but dont tell our O that....
  10. reminds me of.... now my ribs hurt and I think I have wet my pants .
  11. That is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I love the comment that Texas is building a Teracotta Army. Some how, that thread and their comments having me liking those ole texas boys. Someone should go on there and tell them how good a laugh we are getting out of it. I have to go blow my nose and wipe the tears off my face from laughing so hard. absolutely fricking priceless!
  12. OK, leading with the crown of the helmet is wrong and we all know that. Kids getting seriously hurt is horrible and I think we can all agree on that. but how do you take away the fact that we have generations of players who have been conditioned to make hard hits. most of us who played defense did so because we relished the opportunity for a big hit. go on the internet and look at old Husker videos about the blackshirts and see how many of those players would have been tossed this week (i.e "The Hit" by Ruud back in the 70's as one quick example comes to mind). We were taught to hit with the screws of our facemask. head up and make it sting. and sometimes I was the one getting stung. Now? as far as the officials calling games, I am not even sure I can tell you the difference between a penalizing hit and a very intense good football play on a player. Polini is intense, and the expectation is you hit hard. that's football. thats blackshirt defense. Blacksirts are known for big hits. for decades. I see them doing nothing different now than in the past. Some say they are dirty but I think that is because they do not understand and haven't always had some of the athletes and coaching we have had on defense.I feel like this rule is going to neuter the game. We will have all kinds of missed tackles because kids are afraid of getting tossed and do not know how to interpret the rule. If we get another suspension this week, I think NU has to go after the league on this. make it good and public. we have nothing to lose anymore. If they start handing out suspensions to us every week, I would suggest atleast another dozen equivelent hits happened around the league. Provide the film of us and all the others and make the league accout for their decisions in full view of the sports community.
  13. Just a few random thoughts... 1. I took my dad who had not been to a game since 1973! the crowd was off the hook yesterday Lincoln was rocking and I still can't talk, great time. last time he was there the stadium held like half the people... 2. I think as a fan base, we are ultra sensitive to bad calls/missed calls as some kind of conspiracy thing.I agree its hard not to be with Beebe, etc. There were a lot of bad calls on both sides of the ball. I am nervous about potential suspension talk this week. but, I have a friend who is a big 12 ref, and I cannot say I think he would work us as part of a conspiracy. MU fans thought the game was horribly called and they got screwed....go figure. 3. the last Helu run was big, but I thought the game momentum changer was definitely the goal line stand. You could see how frustrated Gabbert was when they couldn't get into the end zone. That was the money shot. 4. Mid way through the 3rd quarter, I was nervous. Had MU ran tha ball at us more and not lined up in the spread with no one in the backfield, we could have really had problems. You cannot telegragh to one of the top pass cover defenses that you are going to pass right now. 5. Dont know how to do it, but we have a hell of a time covering quarterbacks when the pocket breaks down and they can remotely run. that would be my game plan against us, run look, use the coverage deep as a decoy and then run the ball..kinda like we would like to do with T Mart. 6. I sat there after the game yestarday and just took it all in. I will miss the Big12. I will miss not being able to go to any game I want within a few hours( I live in KC). It will be strange not playing MU since after WW1 next year.
  14. Meh, we need to focus on Iowa State. Period. Forget about CCG, NCG, focus on the next game. All these teams are dangerous. in this league anymore, anyone can lose to anyone at any moment.
  15. he's a great qb, I was wondering how our team would be different had he come kept his commitment. He didnt like the change and I respect his decision when the coaching change was made. In the last decade atleast, Nebraska has had its way with QB's who decommit for any reason-Josh Freeman and now Gabbert.
  16. Reported by the post-game guy on KMBC. You could hear it in the background. I heard it, it was in the south endzone around the mu fans. I think its stupid and don't like it...it wasnt everyone either by a mile...just some here in there. maybe 1 in 20 people. I also don't like it when we do the gooo biiiig redddd thing after winning at home or on the road...but its not all of us, just some. I made a point to try to treat all the MU fans I met yesterday with respect. I am interested in talking to ANY fan who drives in from 300 miles away. and while I am raniting, the whole "stay classy" or any utterenace of the word classy is soooo stupid. who says classy at all anywhere except in a college football stadium or message board?
  17. I second that. what an absolute tool, I wont listen to him anymore.Listening to him you would think CornNation started the middle east conflict. he hates us. If I hear 1 more time that we are too good for the b12, we are scared of texas, we STARTED the leaving talk(not Missouri) and thats why we are leaving...
  18. Wasn't your college begging to be in the Big 10? the governor told us for a month it was a done deal...until they got left at the door at closing time for a prettier girl.
  19. My pat answer to all of this to any fan is always: 5 National Championships(could have been 5 in a row in the 90's) 3 Heisman trophy winners 43 Conference Championships 4th all time wins, working towards #3 Call me when you get half way there. If we win, itl be sweet, if we lose it will certainly sting, but 10 years from now....meh good memory
  20. I'm N! Bo is 7-0 when I am on the premises(Lincoln, Columbia, Jaxville, Lawrence, Manhattan, etc, etc.). I have no choice but to come to Lincoln for this one!
  21. Actually their philosophy is if the front four does their job there is no need to blitz. In their eyes the front four is doing the job well enough. that front 4 thing ended when Suh left. let me restate that...that front 4 thing WORKING ended when Suh left. No, it hasn't, they still believe it, and are still running it.
  22. Actually their philosophy is if the front four does their job there is no need to blitz. In their eyes the front four is doing the job well enough. that front 4 thing ended when Suh left.
  23. the way this year has gone, we will probably show up blow MU out next weekend, there is no predictability in CF anymore. MU will be feeling pretty good this week and start drinking their own Koolaid, thinking about playing for NC after tonight.probably not bad for us.
  24. gawd living in KC, this week will be a challenge if MU wins...anyway, we better hope that MU team gets full of themselves this week cause I think the way we play at home coupled with that MU O line , they are gonna make our d line their bit$#. could be a real long night in Lincoln.
