  1. I get what you are saying, but it kind of goes without saying that there are many other factors in a player's development than we have access to. That is what makes recruiting so entertaining...it's an inexact science for sure. Personally, I think that's why we have to trust that the coaches have done their homework on each player they target. So yes, the ranking isn't a guarantee of which player will be the best in college, but it's certainly a situation where the higher rated guys are much more likely to attain greatness. Just because someone's a 5 star doesn't mean they'll be good, or even useful, just like being a 1 star player doesn't prevent someone from becoming a major stud. I think you are just taking the star rankings too literally. Yes there are some questionable issues when it comes to this stuff, but all in all, the services do a pretty good job (at least as good as anyone else with the same amount of info)
  2. I agree to an extent, but I do think the star rankings take a lot of projection to the next level into consideration. Otherwise, why would Tyler Gabbert be a 4* prospect with the numbers he put up? Why wouldn't a kid like Godfrey who tore up Texas 3A ball be highly rated? It's not purely a ranking of the best high school players. I said they get the ratings for their play up to that point, not the statistics. If a guy can throw a rope 40 yards downfield on a crossing route and hit the receiver in stride, that projects to possible success in college. If his high school team doesn't throw much and he doesn't throw for 300 a game should the same player not be as highly thought of? What about great players that play for pathetic high school programs? If they go 1-9 on the season, should they get two stars at the most? Yes, they are predicting their college greatness, notice I said predicting, by what they saw in high school and any camps attended during their h.s. careers. Actually, I believe their final ranking could be affected by who offers them a scholarship also. But in the end all they have to go by is how they have played up until that point, anything else would be guessing. So are you saying the ratings are based off of their talent, and not necessarily the statistics, correct? If so, I'd argue that if you are basing ratings off of a player's talent (arm strength, speed, etc) then you, in essence, are rating them based on their projection to the next level. Talent is the best indicator of next level success, whether you want to believe that or not. Yes, the player must also be willing to work hard and have the right attitude to build upon that talent, but if the talent is there, that's one less hurdle to climb.

  4. Wouldn't change my opinion of the class as a whole if a couple of our guys were bumped up slightly on Rivals. It's still a very good class, regardless of what the stars say.
  5. I'd like to see Godfrey visit if Carnes is unsure of his status after this weekend. I think Godfrey's the next best option for us, especially if we want to be a real run-heavy team.
  6. I only heard the feeling wasn't mutual when we first started recruiting him, but as he's talked to the coaches he has grown more interested. So did we ever find out if he's visiting, or is it still pending Carnes' visit? Carnes will be in Lincoln this weekend....staying til Monday I think(?) Godfrey is still up in the air. Watson has already visited him at school and he might come down next week again. The visit next week has not been confirmed and might never happen. Where did this info come from? Scout? Rivals...both the Carnes and Godfrey stuff. I never saw where Watson visited him at school and may go visit again...interesting. Do you by chance have a link to it or anything? Unless you have a premium account at either Rivals or Scout, a link won't work for you. But in case you do have a subscription, here's a link. I do have a premium account, but it's at rivals so that link won't work for me, thanks though.

  10. So that's the good news. But the bad news comes in the form of the following quotes coming from his recent interview with Rivals: "USF is still my number one school. Getting to know coach (Skip) Holtz was an honor last weekend and their new quarterback coach, coach (Peter) Vaas, was great too. He's real cool and I was able to learn a lot about them." "I didn't get a chance to catch a lot of [Nebraska's] games this past season so part of the plan for this weekend is for me to watch some film of their offense to get a better feel for how I'd fit in." I'm guessing this weekend's film session with Brion will go a little something like this. Watson: "And once again, that play would've worked if you were the QB." haha we're doomed. maybe he's a confident kid and just sees the tape and says "i can fix this"
  11. Bringing mom along to Lincoln is a good sign
  12. Good video HuskersAllDay...seeing this video, he has a better arm than I originally thought. He could be a nice pickup if Carnes falls through. I'm still worried by the lack of offers, but if Watson/Bo think he's a good fit, awesome.
  13. I'm not sure what the difference between this kid and Marsh is, to be honest. He looks like he may have a slightly stronger arm, but I am not overly impressed by his highlights.
  14. They are referring to Godfrey. It's a link to the premium board over there talking about how Godfrey denies having any visit set up with Nebraska. One writer speculates it could be because his "visit" is pending the outcome of Carnes' visit, so there may not be anything officially set up.
  15. Any real reason you think Godfrey will be in? All the reports say that he doesn't even have a visit set up...I think there's got to be something (where there's smoke there's fire) to all the rumors, but still it's making quite an assumption to put him down as "N" before anything really happens.
  16. Rivals staff says he's still taking visits to Nebraska, W. Kentucky, and possibly another school. Per his HS coach this morning. Apparently the fact that they didn't retain Cannales (sp?) the OC/QB coach isn't helping their cause.
  17. Godfrey's still denying having anything "officially" set up, per Rivals staff. He (writer) said he thinks he's denying it because the visit may not happen depending on Carnes' visit the prior weekend.
  18. I think you're dead on. "Whoever accepts the offer first" will be our QB, and Carnes will likely have a 1 week head start on Godfrey. It will be interesting to follow the situation. i think based on actions the staff wants carnes...... Agreed...which is why he'll likely have the first shot to accept the offer. That seems like a strong enough indication that he's our #1 target.

  20. I haven't heard anything about Godfrey visiting, but that's good news if true. I think it comes down to Carnes and if he commits before Godfrey's visit (provided there is one). If not, you have to offer Godfrey and take him. He's a very impressive looking QB, and he looks like a pass-first kind of a guy, who can also run...which is what we want. We don't want another RB playing QB type, not for Watson's system anyway.
  21. I like them both, and both come from pretty good high school programs that have put out D-1 talent in the past (and this year, too). I think Godfrey looked like a little better passer right now, but Carnes has better overall tools. I guess it depends on whether you think Watson can develop QB skills...hmmm Honestly, I'd be happy with either, probably a slight preference to Godfrey right now.
