  1. Throw a flag, take him out of the game, where's the commissioner?, suspend him, ban him from college football, pour sugar in his gas tank, take his birthday away!
  2. I don't understand the fixation with how we might sneak into the championship. Sitting back praying for other teams to lose is just stupid and we're not going to make it unless Oregon loses, TCU loses, Boise loses and every team in the SEC loses twice. Then we might have a chance at playing Utah in the championship. That's not the game anyone wants and it would be marred by controversy. Whee, everyone sucked enough so we got in! We had our chance and lost it. But, after giving two quality teams their first loss we're still right in there for a conference championship and the Fiesta Bowl. That's what I'm thinking about.

  4. There's not really any "luster" to the bowls that the WAC, MWC, C-USA, Sun Belt and MAC have bids to. The payouts are less than what they receive to go on the road and be pulverized by top tier programs. What you're not seeing here is that teams in those conferences get their wins in conference. Take away our cupcake rent-a-team wins last year and we had 7 wins. It's unfair to characterize all the bowl expansions as an everybody gets a trophy type of thing.
  5. I actually like watching the smaller bowls; the GMAC bowl was probably the most exciting bowl game last year. Adding more bowls for the non-AC conferences is not rewarding mediocrity because their overall wins are skewed by impossibly difficult non-conference schedules. So at the end of the year the top 2 or 3 teams in the conference get to take a trip and be on national TV once. I think that's good for everyone.
  6. ISU can have all the Big 12 championships they want...starting next year
  7. The prospect of the Big East champ receiving a Fiesta bowl bid is not exciting at all, really a joke that they still have an automatic BCS bid. I would hope that if we make it a one loss Big 10 team (Wisconsin, Michigan State or Ohio), TCU or Boise gets the bid. Considering Iowa managed to get a BCS bid last year with two losses you have to figure there's a chance that a 2 loss SEC team (Arkansas or LSU) could get it too.
  8. Slauson has improved a lot this yeah. Mind you he replaced a pro-bowler that had to be cut for Mangold's raise. I know Callahan isn't Mr. popular around here but he has done a good job with the Jets line. Oh yeah Suh...I think the Lions could very realistically finish the season with a .500 record if their QB stays healthy. It's great to see Suh beasting the NFL but I don't want him stuck on a loser team if Detroit can't get it together.
  9. OU, OSU and Baylor are sharing the drivers seat. They all have 1 conference loss and haven't played each other yet.
  10. Nice to see the ISU athletic department eager to fleece Husker fans one last time. $95 for a bench ticket or $55 for the grass. Tickets for their next game with Missouri are $55 for bench and $12.50 for grass...
  11. If they do the CU game I'm bringing in a radio and muting the TV.
  12. Sure am glad these clowns aren't officiating, every freaking tackle would be a 15 yarder and suspension!
  13. The Dish install guy told me in the spring that the duplicate channels in the 9000 range were for older receivers that cannot display SD and HD channels together as the same channel number. I assume that the regional sports networks primarily tune to HD on their normal listing with the SD channel listed in the high range, which for unknown reasons isn't locked.
  14. I noticed that Fox Mid-West was available again today (in Lincoln). Side note for Dish customers on something I didn't notice until a few weeks ago. There are a bunch of SD regional sports networks (including Big 10 Network) available on channels 9660-9677 without the multi-sports package. A lot of the pro games are blacked out but there's extra college sports and insider shows.
  15. When was the last time KU-Missouri was on TV? KU had one great year with Mangino and one decent year, that's it. Let's not get too ridiculous if we can help it. They were on TV last year and it was a really good game. Let me back track there. I know KU is a rivalry for them and has had a lot of quality games in the series. However, we've had a lot of big games with Missouri too.
  16. When was the last time KU-Missouri was on TV? KU had one great year with Mangino and one decent year, that's it. Why not just call it like it was? The entire north division has been inconsistent at best in the big 12 era. However that worked to our advantage because we (every team in the division) could have a mediocre season, win the division and still have a shot at a BCS bowl. Life gets much tougher for Missouri next year with the round robin format. KU, KSU and ISU won't even have a realistic chance at winning seasons no matter how soft their non-con opponents are. Hmm what was the topic? 10 years from now I doubt anyone will care about this game unless the game has a classic moment.
  17. I know this image is terrible quality and maybe it's already been posted, but it's good enough to illustrate the point. Every time I watch the video from that camera angle it looks like Martin is trying to put a shoulder into him. Then from this angle it does kinda look like he's leading with the helmet. What I find funny here is that Blatchford is breaking down to make practically the same hit. I've never really examined return blocking so closely. Who knows, maybe Martin did put too much into it. Maybe it was wrong for him to flex and be laughing on the sideline after he injured someone. The only thing I know for sure is that he was clearly pumped up to be on that special team and outside Alex Henrey our special teams have been lackluster. So now, for what is most likely political reasons we are down an enthusiastic special teams player and backup in a big game that could decide the division.
  18. I don't know what's funnier, that Boise is ranked ahead of Auburn in the AP and coaches poll or that Baylor is ranked while Texas is not.
  19. 1. Auburn 2. Oregon 3. Michigan State 4. TCU 5. Boise I've never card much for style points the polls factor in. It's more impressive to see a team pull out a close one against a good opponent than decimate a bad one. Auburn is getting it done and deserves to be #1 at this point.
  20. The dumbest statement ive ever heard. Reason why you would want "GameDay"..................................... If "GameDay" is at Nebraska it means we are RELEVENT and playing in a big game. After all isnt that what college football is all about the big game. I can just imagine Bo praying at home hoping "GameDay" doesnt show up cause he is scared it will be a distraction to the team. Eat those words and forget that you ever thought of such a crime. Your probably a little upset about not wanting "GameDay" because your mad Texas beat us. Get over it already, had we taken care of business against Texas "GameDay" would be in our backyard this weekend but we didnt, that being said lets beat some Mizzou a@@ this weekend!!!!!!!!! GBR Oh right, lack of Gameday means means two irrelevant teams nobody cares about about will be playing. I'm positive Bo couldn't care less about it. It's fun for the fans and a nice showcase for the school and city but all it adds to the football game is a circus atmosphere. And yes, given the letdowns we've had at home it's not worth crying about being passed over.
  21. You can see pretty clearly in that video that Martin put his pads into the chest. Under the rules a player on kick coverage is not defenseless in any circumstance to begin with. That's a cheap hit.
  22. It would have been fun for the fans to have Game Day in town but I don't think the team needs the additional distractions.
  23. The number of doctors that fly has really gone down over the years. In these parts it would be far more likely for a successful agribusinessman to have a personal aircraft. But yeah there are definitely are people who put school badges on their planes, I've seen a Mirage with a big N on the side.
  24. They have come a long way since the disaster last year but are still a bad team. I don't say bad because they lack lack talent (no NFL team does), rather because they are not winning close games. That comes down to coaching decisions and execution of details. Injuries are not an excuse because every team has injuries and will inevitably be thin at at least one position as the season progresses. It did show a lot of heart for the Lions to almost beat the Giants in NY with a 3rd string QB though. I am still worried that Suh will fall into the same trap that Sanders did with the Lions. Sanders retired early because he had been drained by the Lions losing year after year. Clearly Suh is going to be one of the greats in the NFL and I hope he gets out of Detroit because it would take divine intervention for the Lions to ever have a shot at the super bowl. A chance to climb that mountain (or even get into the post season) is something he deserves, not year after year of mediocrity.
  25. When you start to break down a our grievances with Texas most of them don't make any sense. -The Big 8 had to expand to keep up with other conference expansions. In hindsight maybe we could have brought in some other teams but the opportunity arose to expand when the SWC fell apart and the deal was done. -OU didn't want a protected crossover with us. -Texas was right about partial qualifiers and restrictions on them have become the NCAA norm anyway. -The Big 8 didn't have equal revue sharing and to my knowledge we voted against it for the Big 12. -The conference championship is entirely a money affair and having it at Jerry World makes generates the most money. KC is no more a home game than Dallas and we have historically done just fine on the road anyway. -We lost the conference championship last year because two big penalties put Texas in position to make a FG, not because 1 second was put back on the clock. Had it been the other way around with Henry booting one in for the win after a controversial 1 second was put back on the clock, you know damn well we would have taken the win and not looked back. -Do you honestly care where the conference headquarters are or does it only symbolize the perception that Texas is in charge? To be blunt, I believe it boils down to being mad that we've only managed to beat Texas once since the conference expansion. A lot of those losses were heart breakers where Texas found a way to come back or we threw it away, whichever way you like to think of it. If there wasn't a perception that Texas was screwing us that's what you call a rivalry. We're not sailing away from our problems leaving the big 12. I am looking forward to the big 10 and truly believe it will be better for everyone, but ultimately the problem is us. If we don't fix us things aren't going to magically change with a conference move. In fact when you look at our scheduling for the first two years in the big 10 things could get far, far worse.
