  1. I'd wager that the SEC didn't put out an offer they may have hinted that if MU were to apply they would likely receive a favorable response. The Baylor lawsuit is threatening the SEC for supposedly approaching A&M thus leading to the breakup of the Big XII-II-I. These conferences have to be careful that they don't open themselves up to more lawsuits. As a resident of Missouri having to endure all the abuse for the Huskers leaving and stealing "Missouri's invite to the B1G" I will LMAO if this "source" blows another chance of getting into a better conference situation!!! When will they learn their lesson. Loose lips sinks ships. If we pay attention to how this has worked with NU, CU, Pitt, Syracuse, the schools apply for membership and then and only then do the conferences vote to accept or deny new membership. I'm not sure A&M did it this way, they were a little too public with all the goings on and it has already ended up at least nipping them in the behind by delaying their full acceptance into the SEC. It will be interesting to see if Bevo actually gives in to OU's demands, I'd be shocked if they do. If the expected implosion doesn't happen I can't imagine the new Big XII would be very attractive to new schools that would be quality additions to the conference.
  2. Some people in the 'know' both currently and from college think Shatel is a turd, FWIW. And the reason he doesnt print, and nobody prints for that matter, ratings from KC to prove the KS pull, is because it doesnt exist. You cant prove something that is false. I just always get a kick out KC is ks thing, having lived/worked there or nearby for 25 years, i think i would know alittle about that as well. And having read Toms stuff since coming to NE and knowing personally people in the business from current and his college days I have a pretty good opinion about him as well Matthew, i had a wonderfully worded long reply and then the website took a dump. But anyway short and sweet #1. claiming that Ku BB out draws all MU sports combined is short sighted at best #2 Ku is BB blue blood, they appear on ESPN/ESPN2 12 times in 2011-2012 for MBB, twice on CBS. MU by the way appears on ESPN/ESPN2 12 times also and CBS once. So not a big difference and clearly they are making money have Mizzou on the tube as well #3 KU football doest draw jack squat compared to MU in the KC much less the state of MO, giving MO an ad advantage of MILLIONS of viewers per season. #4 National/regionsl BB games draw a fraction of the viewer ship as CFB. Even with a greater number of games, there is only a fraction of the money made per ad as their is for a weekly FB game. It could all be for not because who knows what is going to happen. KU is a fine pick over KSU, ISU, Baylor and so on. BUt there is a simple way to really put an end the argument. You say the big10 will carry MO without the Tigers. I ask, If by chance MU ends up inthe SEC. What chances do you give the big10 to carry MO televisions over SEC veiwer ship? I can tell you the SEC would kill the big10. Therefore, unless you are comfortable with a small % of MO TV's, the only way to get more is to get Mizzou. anyway its all interesting to discuss, not that it really matters in most cases. I think it is a little funny that there was an article in the KC star 1 week ago by a life long ku fan and grad who covers college sports for the star. The article was about why ku should try to pair with MU to make themselves more desirable to conferences. The article talks about how MU is much more desirable and has more to offer than KU and its best for KU to try to pair with someone better off. Yeah, the boards been doing that lately. Had that happen in another thread Wednesday night. Wonder what's going on. As for your defense of Mizzou: 1. I don't think it's far fetched to claim that. It's not like either school is a football powerhouse that sells out their stadium regularly. And Kansas has a far better basketball pedigree, success, and fan support than Missouri. 2. In one year, when Mizzou was feigning basketball competence, they will get close to the number of appearances that Kansas did. But what about the other 15+ games that didn't make the boob tube? That's Big 10 Network inventory right there, and I would guarantee that 15 Kansas BTN games would draw better than 15 Missouri BTN basketball games. In short, Kansas is a national brand and draw, not unlike Nebraska and football--Missouri isn't. 3. Again, I'll go with Shatel on this one. If you feel this strongly about it, challenge Shatel to provide his data, see if you can get him to recant or provide his. But considering his position within the media and prior history, he would have insight that may contrast or contradict your yellow-tinted view. 4. Yet, that fraction is repeated almost 3x over for basketball versus football. Frankly, if Basketball broadcasts weren't profitable, we wouldn't be seeing them. And the BTN has no plans to do away with their BBall broadcasts, so why not bring in a school that will help them maximize their profits during basketball season? Missouri won't do that, but a national draw like Kansas would. A quality Kansas program, even if it brings in a quarter of the revenue a AAA football game would, would still generate more revenue, as there are more opportunities to broadcast basketball. At most, Nebraska or any other AAA Big 10 school will get three BTN football games. Kansas could easily have 15 games on the BTN that ESPN/CBS don't pick up. Remember, it's about quality live inventory. Sure, Kansas doesn't move the needle for football, but neither does Missouri, save for what it can grab in-state. With the exception of Duke (and possibly Kentucky), there isn't another basketball program with a bigger following and fan support than Kansas. 5. If Missouri does go to the SEC, then it would be interesting to see what happens. The SEC TV presence is strong, but I believe that if St. Louis is still taking Big 10 broadcasts over the Big XII, the same thing will happen when the SEC rolls into town. And if KC is pro-Jayhawk like Shatel believes them to be, then Missouri may not be as attractive a SEC target as I originally thought. I live in KC on the Missouri side and I would concur with Fro daddy. I think the fan base on the Missouri side is more pro MU than KU. If the B1G took KU can they force the cable & dish outlets on the Missouri side put BTN on the lowest tier to generate those fees? If they took MU could they force those on the Kansas side? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that Missouri has a lot more TV's than Kansas does so if we are talking money that favors MU. As far as Basketball goes, I think Matthew m g's argument doesn't hold up either. If the the number of basketball games were to make up for the revenue in football wouldn't basketball be the big money maker in this equation? Since basketball plays games at about a 3 to 1 clip wouldn't they be making the big $$$$ and not football? Honestly, I don't have the numbers, but from what I understand Football is the cash cow EVEN AT KU, in this entire equation and hasn't that been proven time and time again because you never hear about KU from any of these talks. They are mentioned by some blogger or some poster on a message board, well other than the KU to the Big East rumors. Does anybody know how much TV revenue KU basketball generates? What are the conference TV contracts for their Basketball leagues? What does the BTN make on B1G Basketball compared to Football? I think if we could see those numbers we might better understand why a hoops power like KU just isn't very attractive in this entire conference reshuffling. This whole thing is driven by money and basketball just can't create what Football does even though it has 3 times the inventory.
  3. Those directions from The Maudfather sound like they get you to Omaha, not Lincoln, From what I gathered to go to Lincoln, take I-29 to St. Joe, take 36 HWY west to Hiawatha (there's road construction on 36 west of there) take 73 north to Falls City, then take 75 to NE City, then 2 west to Lincoln. I've heard two different accounts of the construction on 36, one bad and one said no big deal. KDOT says it is working on two bridges and traffic is down to one lane on each bridge so you are likely to have to wait some. How long that is, I have no idea. If 75 is that bad, you could take I-70 to Manhattan and take 77 north to Lincoln, though there is construction on 70 too. I've never come in from the south on 77 so I don't have any idea how game day traffic will be. Though I think you said you were coming up earlier so that may not matter. Hope this helps.
  4. I am not feeling like your old conference mate Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State have done anything to deserve this. I feel the most bad for Iowa State, they are probably the most likely to get screwed and they ar ea good school with good fans. They are a bit small, but I like their spirit. These regional conference are what made college football great. I really think that in the long term, they are killing the golden goose. (ok, maybe just weakening it, but still) No more UT - A&M No more KU - MU No more A&M - Tech Maybe KU doesn't even play K-state I know you all lost your OU game a while back, but that doesn't make it good for more of these games to go... Nebraska has such a strong tradition on its own, but these games are a lynchpin for college football. Losing them and now ahving fans not live near any rivals, having 3 hou roadtrips become 12, that is not good. We don't want college football to just be the NFL minor league, it is better than the NFL, because of the real differences it is now shedding. Jayhawk, All of the teams bear some blame in this. There were many, many opportunities where conference votes could have gone in a way that wouldn't have given all this power to Texas. I realize that hind sight is 20/20, but each one of those votes began to crumble the foundation of the conference. From day one of the Big XII votes went in manner that weakened the conference, pushed the power to Texas and look what you all have now. So to say that KU, KSU & ISU haven't done anything to deserve this, I have to respectfully disagree and say that you all (along with all the other teams that sided with the power shift towards Texas) are getting exactly what you deserve. That is some revisionist history. Everyone votes, that is true (I think Husker fans are not remembering how they voted, including on taking Texas), but I am thinking that to say people are getting "exactly what they deserve" is a bit over the top. I don't think the Huskers fought all the changes. The holier than thou attitude is quaint but is based more in bitterness than any sort of facts. Kansas has been a good conference mate and rival, as I would say K-State and Iowa State have. I don't think they deserve this at all. I just think you feel better saying it because you guy are warm and snug in your bed in the Big 10 and some of your old friends are gonna get screwed. I actually think KU won't come off to badly, other than being seperated from rivals and being diminished in that way, but that won't change my opinion on this if a team like Iowa State is left without a chair. Okay, let me make sure I understand this correctly. Voting to join with the Texas four and make the Big XII is the same as voting to continue to allow the power to shift to the south? There were many things that Nebraska voted against because they felt it would not only hurt Nebraska, but would also hurt the overall balance of the conference. I know they initially voted for uneven revenue, but as the face of college football began to change and the difference between the have's and have not's got bigger and bigger they also said that revenues should be shared. How did the votes go to move the conference offices? Conference championship game? The hiring of the current leadership in the Big XII offices? From the very beginning of the Big XII the votes went the way Texas wanted. There are many other votes that have been chronicled before that went to the South's benefit most of which were 11-1 votes with Nebraska the sole dissenting vote. Even last year when Nebraska called Texas on the carpet about media rights where was everyone else on that? Oh I know Nebraska wanted to create their own network, but they were willing to give that up to help keep the conference together, wouldn't that have been a perfect time to tell Texas no? Hmm, Nebraska is all warm and snuggled in their warm B1G bed, which is true. Perhaps you should give Nebraska the credit they deserve, they saw this problem and did something about it. They also saw problems all along the way and tried to solve them, but they didn't get any help. Maybe it's time for everyone to finally admit Nebraska was right and a hell of a lot smarter than the rest of those left suckling and the teat of Bevo and now might be out in the cold as far as landing in the most lucrative and stable conference affiliations. I'm not saying that Nebraska was perfect in this whole deal, but the rest of the north (and south too) are the ones that ultimately allowed this enormous power shift to happen and now you get to live with it.

  6. Because FOOTBALL drives the money, basketball is very small potatoes compared to football in generating revenue. Make no mistake about it, conference expansion is driven by three things MONEY, MONEY & MONEY. That is why you don't hear much about KU. In fact you actually pointed out why KU is being left out of the talks. "Why does everyone think KU is a weak college? Football, yes." That my friend says it all right there.
  7. Does your cable provider offer the alternate BTN channels? If it does you should get it. I'm in KC with ATT Uverse and the alternate channels start on 691 so last year there were multiple games on those alternate channels, especially early in the season with all the non-con games.
  8. Minski's at I-29 and Barry Road or the Minski's in Liberty are both about 15 minutes from downtown. (Both of them are north of the River on the Missouri side) On Saturday the traffic won't be too bad. I'm sure someone from the Kansas side will post the spots down there. Sorry I'm not sure where those all are.
  9. The way I understood it was Miami was going to rule those suspected to be involved ineligible and hope the NCAA would come in and say they were eligible (because the investigation isn't complete) so if later on they were found to be guilty of the violations Miami wouldn't be hung out to dry even more by playing ineligible players. Apparently, that's what Auburn did last year with the Cam Newton situation. It will be interesting to see how that aspect of it plays out. Or maybe I misunderstood the talking heads on ESPN.
  10. So I'm only a year behind on the grass practice fields! Will Shields told me a few years back that he actually preferred to play on Field Turf. Said he felt it was easier on the body. I'm sure everyone has different opinions, just figured guys that played as long as he did would have preferred grass.
  11. Oklahoma I can see, they are in drought conditions. I think that's just how it generally is when you've got 150 guys in cleats on there for 4-6 hours a day though. (http://www.soonersports.com/facilities/wilkinson-practice-facility.html) The Huskers practice on field-turf, so that's why it looks so great. Doesn't require much water Chris, the Huskers have grass practice fields too.
  12. I've been watching the BTN's trip to fall camp across the league...is it just me or do the facilities especially the grass practice fields so far just look horrible? Iowa looked like they were practicing in someone's back yard, Illinois looked pretty rough even Oklahoma's practice field on ESPN Total Access looks like a freakin' goat ranch. It just surprised me to see what appears to be such a huge discrepancy between what NU has and what the other teams have.
  13. Chris, I know the last couple years on ATT U-verse in KC ESPN would add extra channels like the BTN does to make sure those games were on. I don't know what other providers will do, but I'd imagine they'll have the games.
  14. All the Rivals guys are saying he showed much faster at our camp, and was one of the top performers there.. He was called a "man among boys" here scroll down a bit And some are hinting at him committing.. should know more soon In the interview with him he says he wants to be the first in his family to play college ball close to home. He said his brother went to North Carolina and that didn't work out very well. I wonder if something has changed or is it just because he's not getting offers close enough to home.
  15. I think you misunderstood, it said that the D can't stop the O right now, at least that's what I understood. Guess I read through that line to quickly. Now I don't know what to think I still think just like I did last week. The D-line is softer than it should be. Aren't they just running 7 on 7 drills in the summer? If so wouldn't the d-line and o-line be, well non-existent?
  16. That can't be true, Beebe said yesterday that 30 years ago when he was with the NCAA enforcement he found that a majority of the A&M fans and supporters did not want them moving conferences.
  17. This is 100% not true. The only reason I've ever heard of any guy not taking part in Fall Camp was injury. Every player on the roster takes full part in camp whether they are a fifth-year senior or newly-signed Freshman. The roster for fall camp is limited (to 105 IIRC) until the fall semester of school starts and then everyone can participate. I believe that the Freshman walk-ons have to wait until school starts, but not the scholarship frosh.
  18. Mostly because: Program emcee: Kevin Keitzman, WHB 810 AM. Kansas City Star Those who don't know KK - he is THE major Husker Hater in KC. He "broke" the news that MU was definitely in the Big Ten. He still says that B1G offered and then pulled an invitation to MU, so he really is the ONE media person that nearly destroyed the Big 12 and ultimately set up the conditions for NU to be in the B1G. Time machine photo of KK after he says nice things about TO in his introduction: Unless a lot of Husker fans show up I don't imagine Dr. Tom's reception there will be that warm. He's respected in these parts, but the fact when he coached his teams absolutely OWNED the three local teams and the PERCEPTION that he and Harvey through Mizzou under the bus last June (didn't say it was true, but if you live in these parts that is what you'll hear from the cry baby Tigggggger fans) I highly doubt he'll be well received. I'm sure Dr. Tom can weather it, it won't be the first time he didn't receive a warm reception. I haven't listened to 810 since last June. Life's too short to get all worked up over the ramblings of several idiots with a huge inferiority complex.
  19. I am of the opinion that BP had every reason to be upset with TM over a broken rule I just don't think he handled it in the best way possible. He has a well earned reputation of being, let's say, "colorful" in his sideline demeanor and in the era of video, TV, internet, etc. it plays well in putting him in a negative light and in turn also all those affiliated with the Huskers. It's not a "hanging" offense, but I think he does need to find a way to channel that intensity in a manner that is a better reflection of himself, the team, the University and the fans. Wouldn't it be more effective to work the refs in a way that they don't feel you are showing them up? Do you think the best way to get out of a ticket is to yell at the cop because they pulled you over? Wouldn't it be better to have that conversation with TM without poking him in the chest and maybe not be quite that animated? I love his passion and his intensity I just wish he'd channel it differently on game day. GBR
  20. No reason to worry about what is or is not being shown next weekend. BTN is always going to try to show each of it's members in the best light. Obviously there are some rights issues with the 96 Fiesta Bowl that keeps them from showing the game or they would have shown the game. They also have 15,240 hours of programming to fill every year so they aren't going to shoot their entire wad on Nebraska stuff the first weekend they join the conference. They will slowly roll out more and more programming for Nebraska and will pimp the heck out of it to Husker Nation to get more people to watch the BTN and they will use it to apply pressure to cable outlets that won't put BTN on the tier BTN wants to be on. If I was introducing NU to a fan base that is somewhat familiar with NU I'd probably start with the most recent history since more of the potential viewers will be familiar with it and then I'd go back and show more and more about what made NU, well NU. BTN has a lot of programming showing OLD history and I'm sure the Huskers will become a big part of that. They have already begun implementing Huskers into their most recent "Best Position Players 2000-2009" that should tell you a lot about how BTN will be treating NU. So everybody relax and see what all BTN does to welcome the Huskers this entire year. I for one am looking forward to all the expanded exposure BTN will bring us and anxious to see how much it impacts all sports at NU.
  21. The Packers won 9 NFL Championships before the Super Bowl even came around. They have 13 total Championships. The way I understood Delany's comparison was a Small Market, Great Fan Base and National Following. Both teams have won Championships, but the Packers have Title Town and not the Huskers.
  22. Am I the only one who read that part and thought, well then, don't have the draft format! It's not as if these "circumstances" aren't completely under the coaching staff's control. If these issues present themselves year after year, why not have 1's vs 1's? I'm with you zoogies. If practices are at such a premium why would you basically waste one? Why not pit #1 O with #2 D on one team and #1 D with #2 O and fill in with the 3rd and 4th stringers and let them go at it? It's not like people are going to say it wasn't fair? All we want as fans is what's best for the team. I've never understood how you pretty much just throw away a practice.
  23. From what I have heard 11am kickoffs pretty much means no recruiting visits, unless its a in state guy, from either Omaha or Lincoln. Remember most of the recruits play friday night games, coming early for a saturday game pretty much ruins the visit from the start. I believe we had one 11am game last year and it was Idaho. I think 5 of our last 7 games were 2:30 last year, the only other 2 were night games. That's what I was thinking too. So whether the kickoff is at 11 or at 12 if we have a lot of these games it could hurt recruiting since our Game Day Experience seems to be one of the biggest hooks we have for recruiting. I hadn't seen anyone really mention that aspect of the move to the Big Ten. Curious what folks think it will do to our recruiting, if anything.
  24. Okay correct me if I am wrong, but won't the early kick off times hurt our Game Day on campus recruiting visits? Now that you have to fly them commercially it will be tough for kids to get there in time for an 11:00AM or heck even a noon kickoff? I haven't driven from Omaha to Lincoln on Game Day but that has to be one big mess and the closer you get to game time the longer the drive takes. At least with 2:30 kickoff's we had a couple extra hours to get guys here. How many 11:00 AM games did we have last year? Of those 11:00 AM games how many guys did we have come for visits. Just thinking about the overall impact of the different game times.
