CNN/SI story "We laughed at Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe last year. We assumed he would preside over the downfall of a conference that should have printed its own money because he couldn't adequately manage the warring factions within. We lampooned him. Someone even started a Twitter feed claiming to be Beebe that gave life to the caricature we created during last year's conference realignment showdown. Even when he brokered a deal that kept the conference together, we gave no credit to Beebe and all the credit to Texas officials for their string-pulling skills. Then we immediately began predicting the Big 12's demise within a few years. Wednesday, those of us who made Beebe the butt of our realignment jokes owed the man an apology. Because what he predicted came true, and his conference appears strong and stable."

Texas A&M Bolting To SEC Is Just A Matter Of Time
GrueneHorn replied to Nexus's topic in Other Sports
A&M may follow the Nebraska example: "We can't compete with Texas, so we're leaving!" -
307 has me wondering. Some off season fodder.... Serious question for all Huskers here: Knowing how your season ended would you rather have still had the season you had (won the Big 12 North/and bowl game etc.) OR: Trade that to have beat Texas and finish the season bowl inelligible? Discuss......

"...And of course, I am thrilled for the whole state of Texas, which plans to use the $300 million to buy the state of Nebraska, then donate Nebraska to charity, just to prove that Texas doesn't need Nebraska. " SI.com I laughed.

Somehow, someway, I'm sure y'all will find a way to blame Texas for this
-
May not be apples to apples but some coaches actually follow through on these type of promises : Link
-
Agreed. I think this story is overblown and completely understandable why he Bo didnt follow through but if the Huskers were up by 4 TD's I think Pelini would have time to follow through on the promise. Calling it a joke was not appropriate way to address it. Bo may not be a complete tool, but at times he exhibits tool-like tendancies.

Then move. Wouldn't be the first time Nebraska ran away from Texas. What Too soon? I keed, I keed -

We have too much class for that. Does that stuff happen in Nebraska a lot? But seriously, I don't have a problem with the upside down horns, those idiots buying horn decals dont realize they are just contributing to the Longhorn athletic budget with every decal they buy. -
Why is the Bullseye on NU - Why Not Texas?
GrueneHorn replied to River-runner's topic in Husker Football
Welcome to the last 40 years of Husker football. True. At least we have that in common -
Why is the Bullseye on NU - Why Not Texas?
GrueneHorn replied to River-runner's topic in Husker Football
We're Texas. We live with a bullseye on our backs. EVERYONE plays us like it's their Super Bowl so this would be nothing new to us. -
FWIW... Iowa would be correct - the list is referring to the states not the schools. Then it still doesn't make sense. Y'all are still going to playing games in Iowa.

Texas Recruiting - unchanged by conference switch
GrueneHorn replied to knapplc's topic in Husker Football
I'm in your camp. There have even been articles written about fewer and fewer Texas recruits being on the Arkansas roster since they joined the SEC. I guess the way I look at it, it is possible recruiting in Texas won't suffer much. It's not like we get many/any 5 star recruits from there anyway. There's not enough schollies around to keep all the 3 star talent in state if they want to play D1 ball. The recruiting process may become more difficult, but it doesn't necessarily mean we still won't be successful. I do think it will be a harder sell to kids from a warm climate knowing full well that they'll potentially be playing in some awful conditions later in the season. However, they will be subjected to the same elements if they ever reach the NFL. It's a big I don't know for me right now. Arkansas saw their pipeline of Texas recruits viturally dry up after it's move to the SEC. But I'd still expect Neb to get a few recruits from Texas after the switch. Numbers alone are on your side. Texas High Schools produce so much college talent there are always recuits that go outside of the state to play. -
Super Schools- the best football/basketball combinations
GrueneHorn replied to GrueneHorn's topic in Other Sports
Probably would have if they hadn't lost to Florida in both football and basketball NC games. -
Interesting series examining the Huskers once and future competition. Looks like you guys are trading #2 and getting to go against #3 Ohio State and #4 Wisconsin. I gotta think Florida is going to be #1 Link

Pac 10 Scott blames Texas for his plan demise
GrueneHorn replied to HuskerNMO's topic in Husker Football
Touche. I didn't think the UT backers would be able to spin that article so ineffectively. "• Contrary to what was widely reported, Texas' plans to start its own network was not a deal breaker in the school's plan to jump to the Pac-10. "[inviting Texas] wouldn't have gotten that far if it was about a few dollars here or there or a TV right here or there," Scott said." Yeah, I'm REALLY putting a spin on it. Since June everyone on here was saying Texas' "greed" over video rights killed the Pac 16. Now the commish says that wasn't the case. -

GrueneHorn replied to HuskerNMO's topic in Husker Football
So apparantly Texas' demand to keep it's video rights wasn't the deal breaker everyone thought it was. -
Thats what I'm wondering too. There should have been a way to work this out. I'm afraid with the proliferation of TV deals and networks for each confernce and individual schools, we're going to see more of this in the future.

We'll probably never know for sure but the talk has been that the Big 10 Network would have owned the rights to the game in Minneapolis, and they were a bit stingey in giving Texas permission to air clips, on the coaches shows and highlight shows. Personally, I'm pissed they couldn't work it out. I've got family in Minnesota and was really looking forward to this series.
