  1. I know I lost it when i heard that line. Do you think he had that line planned or did he come up with it on the spot?
  2. It's maddening how they handle the QB and RB rotations. Maddening. Edit: I feel as if "Maddening" should be a John Madden reference. Like "Tebowing". like holding up an imaginary turkery leg and pretending to eat it? there's gotta be something out there for this....
  3. Hey, the sound system at Memorial Stadium really sucks. They should really get a new one. Why hasn't this been addressed already?
  4. ldk, i have a really hard time judging "leadership" from my living room or stands. Obviously, i'm not as gifted as others.... The one major difference that is visible is that Martinez checks out of plays A LOT more than RKIII or TA. I'm not sure if thats by design or not, i assume it is the coaches' confidence in Martinez. I rewatched the Minnesota game last night ( I know, it hurt) but if you are walking away from that game concernced about our QB play, regardless of who it is, i'm not sure there is much help for you....
  5. I talked with Bo's salt water aqaurium guy and he said that Bo didn't take the black shirts away, they just forgot to do laundry. He said it was just easier to say that he took them away.
  6. 1. Completely agreed about the pump up/tunnel walk video. 2. Sure, doing something songwise *whenever* is a good idea. Don't get me wrong, i'm a musician for crying out loud. 3. New website? absolutely! Oregons website I pretty sweet, ours is pretty wack. I get it. By all means. I guess I just don't think these should be a huge primary focus. I've studied marketing and read books on the importance of branding.. been to seminars. Nobody knows the importance of branding more than me. Oregon has done a hell of a job at getting into importance because of THEIR branding. But thats them. If we do it right and get the correct people involved, then i'm for it, and it should be a focus. I guess my issue is, which i'll probably be crucified for, is that I don't trust Nebraska/Nebraska offices with the handling of "cool". Branding is of extreme importance, i'll sing it from mountain tops. Hell, i'll yodel it. Which is why its way more important to NOT brand yourself the wrong way. I simply do not trust a re branding, outside of the-on the field product, for Nebraska. I think my feelings generally stem from the way that the new logo was handled, also 87% of the posts in the alternate uniform thread or the general views by the majority of husker fans when it comes to uniform change, the apparant HUUUUUGGGGGE influence that the alternate uniform thread has, the lack of a DECENT soundsystem in memorial for way past-way too long (the priority that is placed on the soundsystem), the fact that they recruited some local guy's way sub par music for the tunnel walk, that was blatantly bad, simply because hes in house, and then trashed it a year later [because it was so bad], basically a lot things. Call it what you want. Im sure my huskerboard likability went from around 10% to a 5%. I dont want to look like a jerk here, its just how i feel. Look at it this way. Let's say we all rally together to change the brand for the better. We change it so that we think its really super duper and neato. We think we are shiny and polished now. Does it matter what we think, if the recruits all think we're trying too hard and come off corny? If that happens, then we're a bunch of cornballs who might've tainted our tradition a little.... I just think messing around with stuff can be dangerous here. Play amazing football with whoever. If you're gonna lose, lose playing your ass off. That takes care of a lot. Most of our recruits suck, but I think that Dobson has done a sh**ty ass job as of recent. Our D line, I don't care what year they're in, are out of shape. Thats gotta stand for something. Nebraska has always been cool to me because of their minimalism uniforms/logos/branding which just so happen to be traditional as f#*k, and the way everyone plays with perfection and goes hard on the field. Those two combined are the best marketing scheme ever. I literally believe that. Its how the huskers got me, and how they got an entire "nation." I don't want that to change. You make a lot of good points. What is your solution if the "in house" suits are not capable of making positive changes? Hire a consulting company or do nothing? Just curious....
  7. If we want to appeal to 16 and 17 year old kids, I think that's the answer. Improve the sound system, get a killer video for the big screen and use pyrotechnics and every trick in the book to construct the coolest entrance in college football. I also favor adding black as a school color and finding a way to incorporate some of it into the uniform. Roll out the all-black for a night game or two each season. Get the very best people Adidas has and that are otherwise available to put together some killer uniforms. Give the current players and even committed recruits some input into those decisions. And watch as the recruits roll into Lincoln. Adidas has good people?
  8. With the couple of exceptions, these schools are in California, Florida and Texas. true, but these are low level schools in those states. they aren't taking kids from USC / UCLA, Texas, Florida, FSU etc. those are are kids that NU could and should be able to get Like Newby and Taylor, both of whom NU got? I'm not really sure what you're saying here. From what i can tell, and that's not much, Newby and Taylor were great recruits. You win some and lose some. we will always be at a disadvantage going into some of those states but just because you can't always land top tier talent doesn't mean there aren't still a lot of quality kids to get. Just because they aren't on the big name schools radar doesn't mean that they can't help.
  9. Good read, I liked a lot of the points, but you can basically attribute a lot them to the head coach imo. If Bo walked in, first day on the job, and said the tunnel walk sucks, we need this, this, and that.....don't you think that they would make it happen? maybe i'm wrong, but as a H.C. in TODAY's game, i think you have to own some of it.

  11. 100% agree. there is no sense in a knee jerk reaction and firing a coach mid-season does nothing to help. But, the writing is on the wall and Bo has dug his own grave. You can point to a lot of things but the lackluster staff he has assembled and his pride / loyalty to a broken defensive system are of his own doing and are his biggest downfall. dropping countless f-bombs and being recorded only adds to the erradic character of Bo. Apparently i'm in the minority, but i feel like there a plenty of good coaches out there that would LOVE to come to NU. Look at the freaking top 25 poll. what teams are succeeding that have more challenges than NU? Standford, Baylor, Fresno State, Northern Ill, Louisville, Central Florida. Any of the coaches running those programs know what they are doing or they wouldn't be succeeding where they are at. Hell, you could probably throw Washington and Maryland in there too even though they are not currently ranked, but have its pretty clear they have good coaches. I like Richt, but i don't see him going anywhere. I just think there a lots of other good coaches available.
  12. Nah, i don't think Guy is trolling but there are plenty of posters that still wish it was 1995. I think Guy's point is that if you focus on being "great" at one thing there is a good chance you're going drop in production elswhere and may not even be as successful as the "one" thing you're supposed to be good at. Being multiple gives you the ability to spread things around, keep everyone involved and makes the defense prepare for more. Yeah UCLA held NU scoreless for the second half but there were good passes in there that got dropped on third downs too as well as Abdullah's fumble. I think more people need to realize what a TOTAL team game college football has become. Offense and Defense go hand in hand and play off of each other. Key is, I said great at "something" not" one" thing. I didn't mean it as we should limit ourselves to one thing. That doesn't make any sense and I don't se how it even came across that way. I said establish a go to. Something you feel like you can rely on when other things are not working so well. You can't always be a one dimensional offense and be successful. You can't try to execute your entire playbook each game and be successful either IMO. I think Nebraska has hurt itself by tryin to do too much on both sides of the ball...... But what the f#*k do I know. I guess i took being great at "something" as being good at say power running, or the option, or the zone read etc.....kind of depends how you define it. what i gather is your saying we need a "bread and butter" for crucial times in the game? If that's the case, i totally agree. Beck would probably tell you that he does and its called the toss sweep lol. It does look they may try too many different things, but that may just depend on the peronnel as well (namely the qb). you're guess is as good as mine, but the yardage does indicate that the offense can work imo.

  14. I just don't see the recruiting doom. Bo certainly is not a outstanding recruiter and there is plenty of talent on the field right now. yeah, we dont share a conference with any texas schools, but we also can recruit OH and PA. talent is not the end all. look at florida st, miami, texas, usc. FSU looks better this year but they have been pretty inconsistant for awhile now. Also i understand "stars" in recruiting but how big a difference is there between players on the field, seriously? a .1 second on a forty time? 10lb increase on a bench press? I honestly don't know, but i would guess that outside of the handful of exceptional athletes it is not as significant as some like to think. don't get me know wrong, there are difference makers and depth comes into play but players still have to perform on the field.
  15. I don't understand the fear. we are basically irrelevant anyway now, but does that matter? That stadium fills up every home game and Lincoln is booming on Saturdays. The culture of Nebraska football is so much bigger than being a top 10 football team. sure its a great standard to have and its what i believe we should strive for but get your foundation built first. Look around. Wisconsin has a real nice football program, hired a new coach too that seems to be pretty good. They've had 2 shutouts this year Look at Michigan. Brady Hoke was not a big name before he was hired. Are those states ideal for recruiting? Boise State has even had very good teams recently. why would anyone go to Idaho? My point is, everyone says it's not that we lost, its the way we lost (blowouts, look ugly, seem overmatched, etc) Doesn't Bo's actions resonate with anyone that he doesn't share our Nebraska values / way of doing things and there might be a link? I understand the context and that this was two years ago but the Nebraska brand is much bigger than this coach. We can certainly find another coach, pay him 3 Million per year and expect him to be civil towards the media, fans, players, boosters etc. it may get tiresome, but it comes with the territory.
  16. that is a statement, the dude. don't doubt yourself. One thing to remember is at the end of last year the senior led defense should have been having their best games. This years defense should be having their worst performances right now. They seem to be improving every week, yes there was an implosion on Saturday but we did get to see what they are capable of. Also there is a reason Noel Mazzone sells his offense. It's honestly not the players I'm worried about. We have some good ones. Agree.
  17. Been mulling this over, concluded Bo just isn't a smart guy. Like others have said this wasn't a discussion with other coaches this was with media members. You gotta know that this could get out. Falls right in line with other hot head incidents. Seriously, what head coach has time to read the local journalists and pick fights and sound off? OURS. On top of that freak out about spectators. Not players, refs, coaches, nope people observing a football game. Smh Bo is like the buddy that gets into a fight every time he drinks. It's like he can't control himself. Those that stand behind bo are like the friends that fight for their drunk buddy even though they know it's his fault and he started the fight. The timing bothers me though. Two years is a long time to wait I just don't see how it changes much regardless of agenda. I don't see how NU let's him on the field sat. It will be a $hi! Show.
  18. IMO it's because the meltdown was not a surprise and honestly was somewhat expected. I was at the game and people weren't even mad. Conventional wisdom tells you that teams don't lose leading 21 - 3 let alone get blown out at home. Total team failure. Lastly it's because people can see the talent out there and it being used poorly. The fan base as whole checked out. This one is different because we had a big lead were at home and the fans no longer believe in this team going forward. Just my impression.
  19. well said Maybe so, but if it wouldve been any other former player in the history of the program making them remarks, Bo's answere would probably have been different. Probably a simple "I dont worry about that stuff" or "I'm not gonna address that". Bo made a point to comment on it today, and didnt shy away from that at all. Clearly, Bo and Tommie have an axe to grind with each other. I'm sure some of it stems from when Brion was here. But also, Frazier is a prick. An open prick. (2 pages on this) Does he have a right to his opinion? You bet. Does our coach have a right to disagree with it publicly? You damn right. I tend to agree with you, but it just puts Bo in the middle of something he shouldn't be wasting a breath on. he has enough other issues to discuss and fix, not pick fights with Tommie, who for the record, has actually done something of substance during his time at Nebraska.
  20. this is what is so frustrating. you are up 21-3. just give a heavy dose of cross, ameer, and newby. only throw on 3rd and 5 or more. play ball control. make them stop the run and then crush them with a play action. it should be so much simpler. imo. You know what else is really simple? Zone pass coverage. would do wonders on occasion for this team. unfortunately, we are still trying to cover WR's with LB's and blaming it on youth. Also, we may want to line up and actually get set for goal line defense. just a few thoughts.....
  21. He only played 1 half against wyoming because when he went out there was zero drop-off. some might argue improvement. Southern Miss is unimportant. I'm just disappointed because i thought we would see him take the next step as the feature back and I don't feel like we've seen that at all. I still think he's a very good back, i was just expecting a little more.
  22. It's interesting to me that Martinez takes so much heat, and rightfully so, yet Ameer gets virtually no criticism. No one questions Ameer's leadership even though he seems to always fumble/muff punts in crucial situations. We were not likely to overcome UCLA but leave it to Ameer to fumble at the 5 to ensure we have nothing positive in the second half. He runs hard and gives great effort, but i'm not sure why he's still the starter based on what i've seen from Cross and Newby. and i get it, a total team failure, but I've seen enough of Ameer fumbling. Ameer has had a very disappointing season thus far. Cross has clearly out performed him, yet finds himself on the bench for the better part of the game. Abdullah has almost started the year out with 3 100 yard games (got 98 against UCLA). He's on pace for over 1300 yards for the season. He hasn't met expectations, but he hasn't been a disappointment. Hell, only a handful of guys on offense have come close to meeting or exceeding expectations (Newby, Cross, Enunwa, and Bell are the only ones off the top of my head). The whole offense has been a disappointment more than any individual players. I don't put much weight on getting 100yds vs wyoming and southern miss especially when those yards on coming 1 or 2 long runs. for the most part, Ameer has been kept in check. Not entirely his fault, the line has done him no favors, they get virtually no push, but our mismanagement of the RB position continues.... I was at the game, so i couldn't actually see the hit from Barr but Ameer needs to hold onto the ball. he simply has a long history of fumbling, especially at crucial times.

  24. Do ya know why that is!? I missed a part of the third quarter and saw most of the 4th....... I would assume it has to do with JT not catching the punt and inexplicably deciding to field a bouncing punt at the 2 yard line......Nu dodged a bullet. As they dodged many other bullets in this game. the punt return game has been a joke going on two seasons. What i wouldn't give for a returner that could simply call a fair catch and just catch the ball securely. Callahan had a guy that did that...name? Panico?
