  1. The hilarious thing is the call wasn't even that the ruling "stands" it was "confirmed"
  2. Box Office discussion isn't too meaningful. You need to adjust for inflation, think about how many people go to movies now, how many people went to midnight showings in 1999 compared to 2015, how many people there actually are, and probably lots of other things. I kinda hate how they talk of breaking records. It's all about making the news. 1 billion is a lot of $ but adjusted for inflation maybe this isn't the most watched movie on opening weekend. I haven't looked it up.
  3. We still get two more movies and maybe we'll get those voids filled Yep. I saw this movie as a kind of passing of the torch. I'm guessing Luke will be dead by the end of the next movie and then it will be all new guys other than a little cameo stuff by Leia maybe. We'll obviously find out way more about Rey in the next one and maybe Kylo too. If we don't then, I was wrong. *shrug*
  4. But it did. I was there, I was at a dot-com startup in 1999 when the film was released, I spent all my time online, and I read the exact same kinds of responses to TPM that I'm reading here. And there were people pointing out the flaws in the film, and people telling those pointing out the flaws that they were crazy. The overwhelming response to TPM was positive, initially. It broke box office records for a reason. It wasn't liked by only 57% of the audience, it was watched over and over. People went to other films to see the trailer, then walked out before the film even ran. How old were you guys when TPM was released? I was in my mid-20s. Were you looking at random samples of fans and their reactions? Of course there were lots of people who loved it. Of course lots of people watched it over and over. But there were also a lot of people who didn't like it. A lot bigger % of people who didn't like it than don't like TFA. Fans and reviewers. I don't think anyone is calling you crazy for pointing out the things you didn't like about the movie. I'm thinking you're ignoring what's right in front of you (and being a tad crazy) by thinking these two movies were similar in terms of reaction to those flaws when they're not close. It's a very good comparison to make if your argument is that their releases and reactions are not even close to being the same. Wait. You're saying TPM was NOT met with euphoria when it was released? I think you know that's not what I'm saying. Both had/will have reviews based on nostalgia. But TPM had a far higher percentage of negative reviews than did TFA when it came out. I've provided a link to that. Most of the links don't have dates on them but they were all from 1999 and some were right before the release date. That's where my % approval comes from. There were raving reviews but tendencies are what's important.
  5. I was wondering the same since you're saying people are shouting you down.

  7. And you're ignoring that this has all happened before (just like TFA's plot), as I have pointed out. Those aren't points for debate, they're historic references. This initial euphoria also happened with TPM. It's early - TFA hasn't been in theaters a month yet - but you're telling me it's not going to be critiqued. It will be. Let the initial wave die down a bit.I'm not ignoring it, because it hasn't happened before. Plenty of people including myself didn't love Ep I when they first saw it. Lots of reviewers didn't have positive reviews for Ep I before/when it came out. You have a few anecdotal reviews and some people excited to be on camera. This doesn't compare to that.Do you think this movie is being judged dispassionately, or do you think the initial euphoria of the first Star Wars movie in years is still prevalent? Because if you think we're in the dispassionate reflexive stage, I think you've wrestled one too many Gundarks.Of course there is euphoria. But you're comparing this to episode I and basically saying we're in the same circumstance. They're nothing alike. You just told me this happened before with Ep I. It did not. If we look at the reviews listed as January 1, 2000 (though a lot or maybe all are from earlier than that - it's just some kind of default date): http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_episode_i_the_phantom_menace/reviews/?page=5&sort= there are something like 75 positive and 55 negative reviews. That's 57% positive reviews. Writing off positive reactions makes sense with a 57% positive rating. It does not make sense with a 95% positive rating
  8. Yes. Everyone who doesn't initially agree with me in a near knee-jerk reaction is a cyberbully. This is patently obvious and I don't understand the confusion. Maybe you should clarify who was shouting you down.

  10. Is being called grumpy really equivalent to being shouted down to you? I've said your opinion is legitimate but you're completely off on how widely agreed upon it is, both in having the gripe itself and how important the problem is in the overall scheme of things when it comes to the movie.
  11. I would say it's a good thing. I thought there was a clear difference in the level of play starting with the MSU game. Better to be strong at the end of the 1st season than the beginning of a new era imo. I think anyone who is watching objectively sees that. Something happened after the Purdue game that changed the team and it showed in the product on the field. I think what happened was the Purdue game
  12. Apparently I'm being lumped into the "haters" group (has that term been around for 16+ years? Wow!), which is absurd but you guys label my reaction however you want. Not sure why you're saying "you guys" since the only person I see labeling you as anything (grumpy) is Redux. I don't care that you have a gripe but you're not correct that lots of people have it/are upset about it and it's not close to the level of dislike for Jar Jar or Anakin/Padme or how bad those two things were. You're ignoring clear evidence to the contrary.
  13. It's not hard to find an anecdotal positive review of the movie. Especially since that type of review for Ep. I is entertaining. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/star-wars-phantom-menace-review-752675
  14. I've seen Episode VII 3 times in the past 7 days. I've seen Episode I 3 times in the past 16 years.
  15. Today, that's true. When the prequels came out, Jar-Jar wasn't universally reviled. Everyone was so agog with a new Star Wars movie that they just accepted it. It wasn't until a few months later when the hype settled down that people started hating him, and young Anakin, and all the hokey BS in the prequels. That's going to happen here. Once the euphoria of a new Star Wars movie wears off, people are going to start critically examining it. I guess I'll just have to wait until everyone calms down to have rational conversation about the movie. No, it's not going to happen here. You have a bad memory of Episode I reactions. This is not anything close to being on that level. Just accept that your opinion, although it's valid, is never going to be a widely held one. Or at the very least, it's a minor complaint but something that most aren't truly bothered by. Not a "gripe" and not on the level of Jar Jar Binks or Anakin's romance.
  16. Thought of another thing I wanted to talk about. A lot of people are saying Kylo must be very untrained or just isn't strong because Rey beat him. But he was shot by Chewy's crossbow before fighting her. The same crossbow that was knocking people 6 feet into the air earlier in the movie.
  17. The only reason that would make sense is if the original trilogy weren't accessible, but you can go to any Wal-Mart - heck, any CVS - and buy the movies right now. Those stories are as accessible as the nearest Blu-Ray player. The gripe so many have about this movie is that they had no need to rehash the storylines. TonyStalloni's recap was spot-on, and exposes the glaring awfulness of rehashing the story, and that leaves out a ton of parallels. This movie will go down in history as the Milli Vanilli of sequels. It's half lip-synch, half original. Nothing about it is ground-breaking, nothing is fresh. We won't get better movies if we don't demand better movies. Just sitting back accepting whatever they produce will get us more Jar-Jar Binks crap. Expect more. Hardly anyone has that gripe. You're in a small minority.
  18. I watched it again last nite and Snoke has a scar running from the top of his head to his brow and then maybe a connecting scar on his chin. Like someone slashed him with a knife/lightsaber. Also his eyebrows are white so maybe he's old. (But we haven't seen his race before so who knows). The prophecy about Anakin (who Plagueis probably created) is that he'll destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force. He did that by killing the Emperor. Not sure about the balance part. Anakin helped destroy hundreds of Jedi. But Palpatine probably could have done that without him. Anyhow, if Plagueis knew about the prophecy it makes sense he wouldn't want to be in charge while Anakin was around and set Palpatine up to take the fall.
  19. Their helmets did touch for a moment on the hit. That's the trouble with the rule. If this was a penalty and an ejection then offensive and defensive linemen should be ejected after every play because they're hitting helmets slightly on every play I'm guessing.
  20. If you're pointing to this as evidence of what other teams are doing that is so vastly ahead of what Nebraska is doing then you haven't been paying attention to what Nebraska is doing.
  21. You and way too many others are failing to see the point. We played other bad teams and the playcalling wasn't like this. See Purdue.
  22. I'm not sure what about his busy holiday schedule shows about his work ethic. From what I've heard he went to the required team practices and asked his girlfriend to marry him. That being said he threw 0 interceptions so wtg TA.
  23. Our OC goes away from the running game WAY too easily. That's the main issue I have. His idea of trying the run game is to stop trying if they stuff it 2 times.
  24. I don't know much more about it but she's been bringing her therapy dog to all of her interviews in the past month. Also, they caked make up on her. I think she looks much better here than in the movie and it was taken 5 days ago: Her voice really hasn't aged well though. Let's be real though. If she did her hair up in the double Leia buns, you'd still hit it. We all would. Only if it was a threesome with Han.
