  1. Good point. Nate Swift wasn't the fastest WR in the world either, but I'd take a punch to the liver if it meant we'd get the Hutchinson native for another 4 years.
  2. I think some of us are trying to display our ability to remember all the french words we learned over the years. "French Horn" "French Curve" (Were a couple of threads merged here? I don't remember reading the first few pages before) French ti....never mind.
  3. Who leads the league in the category of fumbles caused and defensive touchdowns scored but then there actually is no touchdown because there was no fumble because the officials ruled that forward progress was stopped one nanosecond after contact? It's a prestigious category. Ed Hochuli's favorite. When he explains it, he gets to hear himself talk for like 45 whole seconds.
  4. I always seem to end up close to the genius who knows what play should have been called instead. "Good Lord, the post corner route is open all day long! See how the safety blah blah blah..." It's enough to make me want to dunk my head in acid. This is seriously no different than saying, "GD Watson, why didn't you call the touchdown play? This is garbage! He called the 'lets lose three yards on pitch' play. See, now I would have called the touchdown play, because the team with more points win, and I'm a complete idiot who makes up for said stupidity by being insanely loud." Don't be that guy/lady. You are impressing no one, Bill Walsh. Sorry...not sure where that outburst came from.
  5. Thanks Nexus, good find. (As usual.)
  6. There actually are some serious storm clouds developing on the Aaron Green horizon guys and gals, and honestly, I'm not sure we really have a viable solution. Due to some horrible advice he's been given, he has apparently formed two major areas of concern: a.) Lincoln is a co-ed campus b.) There are bears in Nebraska. I'm not totally sure what the circumstances were, but apparently Green recently voiced grave reservations about his future at NU. His words, verbatim, were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szFO7Wo7ZCE
  7. If you're using the word "school" as a euphemism for stunningly beautiful, scantily clad women with loosely defined morals then yeah, totally. (j/k)
  8. This is probably the only thing I took umbrage with. When my wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant, she looked at me with hormone crazed eyes and asked me how she looked. How did she look? The same way every other swollen, sweaty, 8 1/2 month pregnant woman looks like. My response, though, was (naturally) "Honey, you look beautiful." I consider myself an honest person, and I too enjoy honest people. Sometimes, though, being honest doesn't make you a faultless beacon of purity and truth. It makes you kind of a prick.
  9. I remain unconvinced that Bo's comments were warranted, but I walk away from your post impressed with your ability to make a persuasive argument. And your opening sentence made me chuckle. Good post, good response.
  10. Bo's attitude ticks me off a lot less than the entitlement complex fans who want the world delivered to them on Ahman Green's back without doing their part. You're bitching that a 9-1 team is playing 'flat.' Absurd. There was plenty to cheer about at Kansas, namely your blackshirt defense holding an opponent to under a 100 yards which hardly ever happens in the FBS. Why don't you just admit you need big runs and touchdown passes to get you excited, instead of making excuses. That's not how I read that at all. I don't think anyone is "bitching" because of how our 9-1 team is playing. (If they are, then I'm with you: it's ridiculous to decry a team with that record, particularly when we are only 3 1/2 years removed from one of the worst seasons in NU history in '07) I think there IS some grumbling over the fact that our head coach is criticizing a home crowd that is the most loyal in the sport for a lukewarm reaction to a going-through-the-motions type of game. You wanna see disinterested fans? Go watch Louisville play at Rutgers in mid November. That is a bad crowd. Last Saturday you saw a very good team play a horrible team in a snoozer of a matchup. Bo's criticism reflects his lack of seasoning as a head coach in terms of fan relations. I don't care how muted the crowd was, that was a stupid thing for Bo to say. He said he felt like he was at a scrimmage...there is a reason for that, and it's called the NU game plan. Our strategy was to gain a lead, any lead, and then pound the bejesus out of a lifeless, impotent KU offense and then split the clock open like a Tauntaun and let it bleed out as fast as possible. By the way...its defense that gets me excited. I scream loudest when I see Adam Carriker absolutely destroy an opposing signal caller with a blind side sack. And I found last Saturday less than exhilarating. I watched every snap, (and have since re-watched every snap) but I'm not scared of being labeled a "excuse maker" because I'm willing to admit that last week was kind of a boring game.
  11. I don't really agree with most of this. Pageantry is a significant part of the great tradition of college football. And yes, GameDay is part pageantry. But it's also part substance, and I think CF is one of the better journalists in the sport. Although I don't regularly watch the entire show (I'm either driving to Lincoln or sleeping), I mostly enjoy what I see. It's a great display of the excitement and passion of the fan base, and I don't see how it takes anything away from the game. The fans aren't thinking about GameDay come kickoff. Even if you don't personally enjoy it, you can't deny the impact is has culturally. And recruits are observers of the culture who can be swayed by seeing a great GameDay crowd, just as they can be swayed by seeing the latest incarnation of Oregon's uniforms (regardless of how many fans may despise them). For those that want it, I think there's a chance we could get GameDay @ Wisconsin and then vs. Ohio St. next year. Those are historic games. The problem with that is the fact that is economically beneficial for ESPN to have fan interest higher for certain teams and certain leagues, teams and leagues they have signed lucrative coverage contracts with. Switzerland they ain't. ESPN is in no way synonymous with journalism...they don't employ journalists. They feature entertainers masquerading as impartial reporters, and those "reports" drum up interest (read: eyeballs and dollars) in certain teams while intentionally either disparaging or ignoring other, equally worthy programs. To me, pageantry in college football is embodied in fight songs and walk ons and rally cries, (Go Big Red!) not the embarrassing jackassery of Lee Corso playing dress up with mascot heads. CF is decent though, that's true.
  12. We would be remiss if we didn't mention the fact that he has exceptional blocking skills. And it's perimeter blocking that turns 20 yard rushes into touchdowns.
  13. If you're a defensive minded football fan then Saturday was entertaining enough...although the fact that we were potentially playing the worst team on our schedule was never far from the back of my mind. (I said potentially! WKU, Idaho, I know...seriously though. You could argue that the Kansas Jayhawks are the worst team we will play this year.) The offense didn't give us much to get jacked up about, and it seems pretty obvious that was by design. Pelini can't be all that surprised by the perceived apathy really, I mean, the coaches themselves tried to get this thing over as soon as they possibly could. "Watson! I'm starting the movie Gandhi right before we run out of the tunnel. This movie BETTER STILL BE RUNNING when we come back in here after the 4th quarter, got it?" That's a direct quote from one of my inside sources. By "direct quote" I mean utter falsehood, and by "inside source" I mean a fattish Russell Crowe who appears before me when no one else is around. I need meds.
  14. I thought you might like that. GBR...and go Cubbies! (Oh yeah, almost forgot. I win like Rosie Ruiz.)
  15. For good reason. This is going to be a tough game to walk away from with a win. A lot of that (obviously) depends on how dangerous Taylor's ankle will let him be on the ground.
  16. Very insightful. I've read less relevant things around here before. I don't know if insight has anything to do with what you posted jsneb83, but I for one do find it interesting.
  17. Well...I like Turner Gill and I respect him a whole bunch. He is, however, the head coach of a Division 1 BCS conference school so I think it's safe to say that he is doing pretty well for himself. The whole melodramatic bent of this article annoys me. Tom and Turner just kinda missed each other, huh? Heavy stuff, man. I'm a Dirk Chatelain fan, though. I just don't feel sorry for coach Gill in any way shape or form. I'm desperately trying to get more hours at work over here, I'm supposed to get all weepy because Turner ended up at an awesome college town instead of back at Lincoln? Whatever.
  18. My dad's favorite movie is Jeremiah Johnson. He's also a convicted murderer. He also has the third largest stockpile of plutonium on Earth. One of the above statements is true. If one of three is true, then I am the winner. Game over, man. Game over.
  19. Have a great day guys! (I tried to keep the birthday greeting up to your lofty standards rawhide, hope I did ok ) GBR!!!! (Beat Kansas....one last time!)
  20. Martin really struggled at LB in several areas, he struggled with assignments and calls on the field. He also did not have the speed or hips to cover TE's or RB's which is a must for Bo's LB's. DE is the right fit for him, but I don't know how much he will contribute this year. Good points there, jliehr. That was my initial reaction too sheepdogmark, that being concern over our depth at LB. Martin brings the wood though, of that there is no doubt. So if he can't find the field at LB move him around and find a spot for him. Maybe he can be a "spinner" or whatever...although Meredith looked pretty strong there. And I don't know if that is a position of permanence anyway, or just a fleeting wrinkle we threw out there. Perhaps the coaching staff makes this move with one eye on potential DE recruits for '11? Maybe there is not a ton of confidence in who they can land come February? I actually don't really think that has much to do with this decision, just a speculatory thought.
