  1. I think it's safe to say Virgin Mobile had his cherry popped!
  2. I'm sick of the cheapshots at our freshman qb too. But this is HuskerBoard and it'll never stop. Cheapshots? It was an optimistically written article simply breaking down his stats. How is that a cheapshot? I'm sick of everyone trying to give the excuse that he was injured. He had a leg injury!!!!!!!! Not an arm injury. If his little leg was too hurt for him to play all he had to do was say "Coach, I don't think I can do this again, for the 4th time." ...instead of ruining every husker fan's day. Injuries are part of the game. Yea, your gonna get hurt. That's no excuse for what you do when you're on the field with a game on the line. "He's just a freshman!" (most of you have said) ....uhhh yea. No one is on here saying "Taylor Martinez SUCKS and DOESN'T deserve to be our starter!" Most of what I have heard is people hoping he makes the certain proper adjustments to be a better player. Get your panties out of a wad. Were rooting for the same team here. Geez Louise.
  3. I dunno about you guys but this is what I like to see out of an injured quarterback. No excuses just plain getting it done when it matters the most.
  4. A great read from Big Red Network about Taylor Martinez not being as strong of a finisher as some would hope. They break down his quarter-to-quarter statistics and give you a different view on his passing skills. Click Here
  5. Interesting. Although I'm pretty sure both Beck and Pelini have both said we will be a run first team the first year in the B10. Tim Beck: “We're going to run the ball first and foremost and we're going to hang our hat on that.” Not saying we won't develop into a more pass-heavy scheme down the road. Can't wait to see what Taylor brings!
  6. All this speed is nice, but IMO we need a back to step up and give us some yards between the tackles. We don't have many of those.
  7. And I find it foolish to judge any other QB's entire careers based on a chance they haven't been given....yet.
  8. But aren't Rivals points all we have to go in for Carnes and Starling, the two guys you picked as #1? What else are you basing that on? I agree that this year is full of changes, but you can't pretend that 2010 didn't happen. Green and Martinez both learned tough lessons last year, lessons that are going to help them in the QB competition this year. We can't just ignore that when we're guessing who will start, right? I can assure you that Carnes was right there with them learning lessons as well. Starling has much more to prove. Piling up a massive amount of stats means nothing when you can't win the big games. Like Tommie Frazier in his freshman year? Haha, Let's compare Taylor to Tommie now. That's hilarious. It's not as outlandish as you suggest. Compare their freshman years. Taylor played against arguably tougher competition, and with less talent around him. Am I saying he's going to be better? No. But it's a valid comparison. Haha, we will see my friend. We will see.

  11. I love how everyone just assumes the backups just sit around and don't do anything. No practice, no nothing. I'm not seeing where tschu said that, or even implied that. I think most people dogging on the votes for Carnes are saying he hasn't faced D1 defenses yet, so how can we know he's better than a First-Team Freshman All-American? I could care less about stats or rivals.com honors at this point. It's 2011 now. From this point on, anything that happened last year is now irrelevant with the offense being scrapped. New conference, new coaches, new teams (not to mention new defenses), new systems, new players, players who have been in the system and fighting for playing time. This year is unlike any other year in that it is full of changes. I don't agree that this poll is as "pointless" as some of you think it is.

  13. More reason to believe in Carnes. 1. With the adjusted playbook and terminology, Martinez's experience advantage has been reduced, if not negated. Carnes is here for the spring, so he has pretty even footing as far as learning the offense. Bubba has only the fall to get up to speed. 2. Martinez is not great at throwing when he is not set. The few times he threw on the run, his accuracy was terrible. Kind of negates the advantage his mobility brings in the roll out game. The roll out game will much better suit Carnes. 3. Martinez is not good diagnosing plays; he never read the zone read, and he rarely got past his first progression. Not a natural in the passing game. 4. Confidence won't be a problem for Carnes. Martinez has shown he can get rattled pretty good. Granted, I'm making some assumptions for Carnes, and of course he will have growing pains / freshmen moments. I still like his chances.
  14. hahaha, the ref does slide over, almost as if he knew what was going to happen. Conspiracy!?
  15. This is from 2009 but I had to post it. Shouldn't he have been watching the game? lol
  16. This doesn't necessarily rule out the spread packages, but I would rather see us go back to more I-form and QB under center this year.
  17. If gimp recovers and shoelace tied his shoes, they could probably run 4 flat. Tough to say who's faster tho.

  19. Didn't we think the same thing, about the same time last year, about Mr. Lee? Lee did have the upperhand to start, but his injuries slowed him down. All I'm saying is that it will be very tough for one of the young guns to unseat him, no matter how talented they are Martinez is pretty injury prone as well if you ask me. I highly doubt he will make it an entire season without at least 1 or 2 blown tires with the way he runs. It will happen eventually...
  20. idk... that's just too much silver hair if you ask me!
