if you're talking about starters not coming back next year then this list is kinda misleading, the two players I underlined played a lot early in the season but their PT was practically non existent once conference play started, Toussaint took over for Shaw and Hopkins took over for McColgen once he got out of the early season doghouse (he was suspended for the season opener and fumbled on the 1 yard line against ND), the number should actually be 4, the three losses on the DL will hurt the most imo, Woolfolk pretty much split time with Thomas Gordon at safety, I preferred Gordon because he was a turnover magnet compared to Woolfolk, we basically have 8 returning starters on defense so the number on defense should probably be 3... next year our defense will probably be just about the same as this year because the improvement from the back 7 will be offset by the losses of our top 3 defensive linemen and we are thin there right now, ee improved a lot on defense this year so I'll take it, it's much better than last year, 2010 total defense...110th (450 ypg)...> this year 16th (317 ypg)...2010 scoring defense...108th (35 ppg)...> this year 9th (17 ppg)... I didn't know that, thanks for the input. Yeah, your defense has drastically improved this season. I re-watched the Michigan vs Ohio State game last night and the D line was pretty good overall. Just might be our toughest game of the year and it's in Lincoln!

We have a chance at a 10 win season... In a brand new conference. The only reason to be disappointed is the Northwestern game IMO.

Another good point. I don't think any huskers would qualify there. I can definitely see some Penn State and Ohio State players leaving early, maybe Wiscy too.

I'm right there with you. Possibly 11. How do you feel about Wiscy next year? Basically I see this whole year as a development time.... on defense. Now on offense that's a good point. Many are saying next year will be just as tough as this year for us. Similar rough schedule, Urban Meyer's takeover at tOSU, Player transfer rumors, "Pelini on hot seat rumors", "Pelini leaving for ______ rumors"... BLAH BLAH BLAH etc... We lose 3 All-Americans on defense..... I just don't see it as big of an issue as everyone is making it out to be. Yeah, you could argue by saying losing Lavonte David is equivalent to losing 2 or 3 players, although the way he came in and accomplished what he did as a 6 ft 210 lb JuCo linebacker in the short amount of time he was given gives me confidence we will find a replacement for him. At the beginning of the year I remember Pelini saying he was confident in his defense and for once he felt we've built a trustworthy 2-deep of depth and I would agree. They are still young and developing which means they can only get better. Nebraska has 6 starters graduating after this year. Throw in the fact that our bench players are getting more and more hungry for playing time. Our Redshirt Sophomore QB is starting to develop as a game manager and with the amount of playing time he has gotten this year, can you imagine him next year!? And that Rex Burkhead guy. I know he wants to win more than anyone. Having him as a leader/role model to all of the younger players will only ignite the fire even more. Everyone will want to emulate the way he played the game with a "Never Give Up" attitude. The only other B1G school with more returning starters than us will be Ohio State... But will they be able to keep their heads high after a disappointing 6-6 regular season and a new head coach? It won't be a cakewalk for us but from the way it looks to me, we should be more optimistic of our team... I foresee great results next year. 2nd times a charm?

Bo, is that you? lol But very true. That's why it's nice we have a great role model/leader on our team named Rex Burkhead. Guarantee everyone will want to play like him next year. Everyone seems to play out of their mind when they play us so we will need to figure something out to fuel the fire.

That could happen as soon as next year. I fully agree. Now tell me why you think it will happen? The loss of David, Crick, and Dennard coupled with some bad defensive efforts in 2011? Is there anything the coaching staff could fix to prevent it or is it based on what we have and what other teams will have in 2012? That is exactly why. We lose the three best play-makers on our defense. If our defense could take a step back from 2010 to 2011, it can take another in 2012. The aura of Bo's defensive genius took a major hit this year. He has a lot of work to do to shore up some gaping holes at all three levels of the defense. Combine that with a schedule featuring nine teams in the top 55 of Sagarin's current ratings (I know the danger of using this year to project next year), and four teams with a minimum of ten wins this year, and you're looking at a schedule that could be more difficult than this year's. We are scheduled for 11 games so far. Presuming #12 is some fill-in chump, that means that 10 of our 12 opponents next year will have gone to bowl games this year. At the moment the only team on our 2012 schedule that will definitely NOT be bowling this year is Minnesota. Could the staff do something to fix this? Sure, but then they could have done something after last year as well. We have the players in the locker room. For whatever reason, that talent on paper didn't translate to a solid defense this year. I have no explanation why, but if it happened once it can happen again. Only next year there will be no Lavonte David to save our butts up front and no Alfonzo Dennard to lock down half the secondary. We CAN do it. I just don't have as much confidence that we will as I did this time last year. Forget to mention the struggles of other B1G programs all the starters they will be losing as well? Gotta look at the whole picture.... Cunningham, Junior Hemmingway...) and many others all graduating which could completely change the way their teams will operate. Based on the amount of returning starters Nebraska has compared to other B1G schools and the depth we have behind them we will be fine. Sure it sounds bad to think that we will have to part ways with arguably the best line-backer and cornerback in the country, but we will manage. Bo will survive and Nebraska will too.

If Georgia wins I say screw the NC. Just let Case Keenum Play against his own defense and see how many points he can score. LOL

Most Western Kentucky recruits know exactly what is going on. Really? Are we knocking Brion for being recruited by Western Kentucky? Maybe we should compare the offer list of D1 schools for quarterback that Brion had, vs Taylor. How far behind Taylor is Brion in "knowing the offense", anyway? A good deal of conflicting stuff there. He's far enough behind that it's a concern to put him in. Bo's said it, Beck's said it, hell, even the "insiders" have said it. I thought at one time earlier in the year Bo said he would have no problems putting Carnes in a game. Did I just dream that or is my memory failing (both of which are entirely possible at this point)? But if he is that far behind, why. If this is a completely new system then he should have been in it the same amount of time as TM, is he not bright enough to figure it out, or is he not getting enough reps to get it down? Bo did say it, before the season IIRC. IMO, it was a fluff comment to try to build the kid's confidence. I'm no insider. But a few people who seem to be in the know suggest that Carnes simply has trouble grasping the complexities of the offense, the audibles, and struggles reading a defense. We have a "check with me" pre-play system, but he still has to know some audibles. It also seems he tries to force throws, which is the worst thing he can do. When our secondary is picking you off alot, there's a problem. Again, I don't claim to be a special insider or anything, this is just what I've gleaned from a few different places where folks seem to know their stuff. Thanks, thats probably as close as we're going to get to any real information. As to the forcing throws and audiblizing, as I think we've seen with TM, that is something you have work through with experience. It really suprises me that Bo would use a fluff comment, that just doesn't sound like him. But who knows, all we can do is speculate. I don't think we'll ever know until Taylor gets hurt or until the year 2014..... That is until our coaches realize how much of a liability it is to have a one-dimensional offense. Ask ESPN.

Taylor has grown on me this year. I think he could have played a million times better this year had we not been going through a conference and offensive scheme change, so I have to give him some credit. He still makes (as Bo would say.. "bonehead") plays every game that make me cringe such as his ability to cover up the ball when being tackled... but then he seems to make up for it by having a lights out game. I wouldn't have said it last year but Taylor has shown the ability to counter a defense. Before it seemed like he wasn't adjusting to ANYTHING AT ALL. I've come to the conclusion that our team only plays "football" when we have the momentum. When we are cornered it seems that every player on the team seems to get too distracted by the crowd, scoreboard/score, trash talk etc.. Bottom Line: Our team is still very young and I only see them getting better from here on out including Taylor.

Has Martinez learned a thing in the past year? im not convinced..... If Martinez isn't even running the ball successfully why is he still in there? It OBVIOUS that Carnes would be the better option and has been from day one. This is so disappointing.
