  1. I'll tell exactly why he hasn't used up his rope. It's quite simple: The University and AD have made up their mind via their actions that Scott Frost is the only option as HC to restore Nebraska Football back to it's once long running dominant stature. They are All N and completely sold out on Scott Frost to do the job. From their perspective, if Scott can't get it done, then the program is dead and can't be restored. By giving him a 2 year extension, they are telling us/fan base that its Frost or Nothing. If you've ever heard of the saying: I'll Show You Better Than I Can Tell You ..... this is exactly what it looks like. We are being shown before our very eyes. Therefore, Scott is here until he chooses to step off. We can buckle , grin and bear it through the embarrassing losses to come or Find other things to do with our time on Saturdays until we return to relevance. Anyway GBR☠
  2. The reality IMHO is that, by the University higher ups and AD, Frost is being viewed as the last hope to resurrect Husker football. It seems quite obvious that this is what their selling to the fan base. In their mind, if Frost can't do it, then the program is dead and can't be resurrected. I don't know, maybe it's true to some degree. However, know this. The university is ALL IN on Frost, and he'll get the entirety of his contract to try and right the ship. I've come to accept it as fact. Will he get it done? I don't know, but I certainly hope so.
  3. Emphatically NO!!!!! And they never will be .....When Iowa wins at least 1 Natty, let alone our 5 Natty's, and approaches anywhere near our 900 +wins or anywhere close to our 53 Conference titles, then we can maybe have a discussion. Same thing goes for Wisconsin for that matter. I know I'm the arrogant Husker fan .... it's cool I'll gladly wear that hat. Someone in the fanbase has to be it.
  4. Not really surprised with with this one here. It was only a matter of time as he was waiting on 'Bama to offer him from day 1. That's cool as there are plenty of tantalizing targets @ DB left on our board.
  5. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting between Bo & Eichorst at season's end.
  6. Fellas this is seriously not a good look. 42-10' REALLY!!!! I mean I had major reservations going into this game.......but DIZAAM!!!!!! We're getting CURB STOMPED, BUTT RAPED, whatever you wanna all it, it's going down. Wisky was jacked forth is game and our playing like they got something to prove. You would think "The Children of The Corn" would juiced too and ready to make a statement but apparently not. It's becoming clear that all the cardiac arrest and cliffhanger comebacks - against squads that we should have beaten comfortably to games we should have flat blown out the opponent - has finally comeback to bite us in the azz. More so, the 6 game win streak of roller coaster, near misses reveals that we are not quite ready and it was only a matter of time. We don't have anything left in the tank to seal the deal, not too mention a nice dose of being out coached and not getting the talent to play to their potential. This is a first class undressing and could potentially do major damage to our efforts to get back to golden era of the 70's thru 90's of Husker Nation. Let be real... In the words of Rick Pitino: Lawrence Phillips, Clinton Childs, Damon Benning, Tommie Frazier, Mike Rozier, Johnnie Rogers, Rich Glover, Willie Harper, Irving Fryar, Brendan Stai, Zachary Wiegert, Grant Wistrom, Ed Stewart, Trev Alberts, Terrell Farley, Mike Booker, Mike Rucker , The Peter Brothers and so on are not walking thru Memorial Stadium, so we better get it together quick. The state of Nebraska does not have the population base to churn out top flight talent year in and year out, and its an extremely difficult place to attract talent from other areas of the country. We have got to start winning in BIG games that have REAL MEANING and ON A BIG STAGE to attract BIG TIME TALENT CONSISTENTLY to fill the cupboards. Otherwise we will continue to get 3 star talent and the occasional 4 star and will continue to be a 9 win re-run with no real shot at the big time. I' m done with my rant, but I had to getting off my chest.
  7. I can't think of anyone else, other than Braxton Miller, that would be deserving of the honor in the B1G. T-Magic pisses me off with his fumbling, etc..... But dude is a straight baller!!!!!! Imagine what he does for his senior campaign, provided he stays healthy?
  8. To be honest, Husker Nation was in trouble from the moment they announced this literal rematch on the "BCS: Bowl Selection Special." The announcement wreaked of sarcasm and the Big XII Conference giving us the unspoken, symbolic double "middle finger" salute on our way out the door. I say this for two reasons: 1) Generally, the Big XII division champion -- that loses the Conference Championship Game -- goes to either the "Cotton Bowl" (Dallas, TX), or the "Alamo Bowl" (San Antonio, TX) as a rule of thumb. I'm sure all of us agree that both the Cotton and Alamo Bowls are held in higher regard than the "Holiday Bowl", especially the "Cotton Bowl". The fact that we were inexplicably passed over for both is not a coincidence. They are two bowl games -- with Big XII tie-ins -- that are both hosted in Texas aka "The Motherland of the Big XII Conference". The tension (that you could cut with a knife) and "bad blood" between us and Texas on all things football -- without question -- played a significant role in the snub. Especially since we are leaving for the Big 10, which leaves the Big XII minus one of its marquee programs and its proverbial 800 lb gorilla of the North Division. Our defection has cost the Big XII money, prestige, and conference strength -- not to mention vitality for the future. All that creates a toxic elixir to give us the royal "F.U." as we depart the conference -- which they did. Seeing that we "stomped out" U Dub -- at home -- by a staggering 35 point margin, there was no reason for us to play them a second time. We should have been playing a much more respectable opponent, considering our record. This is why I was in favor of declining the invitation to the "Holiday Bowl" on principle alone, because it was so blatantly obvious that what has been done was carried out with malicious intent and a thinly veiled ulterior motive/agenda in mind. The on-field performance was indicative of a team and coaching staff that didn't want to be there. Hell, the fans didn't want to be there either. It seemed that as the game wore on, the less interested we became. Through my TV set at home, it was a very palpable sense/feeling -- from the coaches, players & fans -- of lets get this over with and get ready for the Big 10. I could only imagine what it was like at Qualcomm Stadium in SD,CA. Anyway, when you consider all of the scenarios/circumstances, I believe this bowl performance -- from bowl preparation to the on-field performance -- was an aberration for Pelini and Co. I truly believe "Husker Nation" (from the Dr. Tom on down to the scout team plus the fans) were just too overcome with anger & hate for Texas and the Big XII in general that we lost our focus/direction by seasons end. The mental and emotional grind of all the built-up ambivalence/apathy was too much for us to try to overcome and re-focus one more time -- particularly for a U Dub team we already smoked by 35 earlier. The "Holiday Bowl" felt more like a punishment or demotion than a bowl game. In closing, "Husker Nation" had high expectations placed upon us by the media and ourselves to do big things this season and go to a BCS bowl game. That's cool because it made sense based on the talent and coaching we have in our possession. However, as fans, we also harbored a very palpable and tangible anger/ hate throughout this season like we've never had before. I truly believe that the ballplayers felt our sentiments, along with their own, and were ultimately burdened by the "revenge" factor and figurative "bucket of blood" that we wanted as fans for all other Big XII affiliates on our way out the door. When that didn't materialize after two "L's" to both Texas and aTm -- games we had no business losing -- the angst and anxiety levels spiked throughout Husker Nation. The loss to old school, arch-rival Oklahoma -- in a game where we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory -- was gut-wrenching which caused us the fans' "blood rage" to boil over and left the kids "punch drunk" from the perspective of psyche and "swagger". Finally, the disrespect and humiliation felt from being placed in the Holiday Bowl against a U Dub team we already smoked? ..... Well that was the figurative thump on the forehead that toppled us over. The "Holiday Bowl" was really over before it started. The only chance the Huskies had of beating us was to catch us disengaged, unmotivated, and uninspired. It played out that way, exactly. The end result: UW 19 - Nebraska 7. Here's to happier times and a new beginning in the BIG TEN...........Throw Da Bones
  9. I agree 100%. Our fans are terrible in the cheering department. From even before the game, you could tell UW was jacked. It was like a road game for NU. We made stop after stop on fourth down on our own goaline and there was nary a cheery. The truth of the matter is this: Our guys didn't want to be there, period. When I say our guys I'm also including Bo and the rest of the coaches. From the top down, plus the Husker faithful in attendance, Husker Nation was visibly annoyed, distracted, and most definitely disinterested. Hell, I was disinterested watching from the comforts of my living room couch. I will say it a thousand times. We really should have declined the Holiday Bowl invitation altogether -- especially when they matched us up with U Dub again. Once I saw the bowl pairing of us vs. Washington, I knew there wouldn't be any motivation to play on our part, and that we would likely mail it in. Therefore, us catching an "L" last night didn't faze me 1 bit. I half way expected it to be quite honest.
  10. Needs? They get their education, housing, food and even some clothing and entertainment paid for. Someone needs to go back and learn the difference between needs and wants. Tatoo's, XBOX's and iPhones aren't needs. Look College Football is nothing more than a weigh station to the NFL. It also acts as a farm system for the NFL. One gigantic stockyard that the NFL pilfers through for the latest prime cuts. Therefore, with that knowledge in hand: A $40,000 education doesn't compare to the literally multi-millions of $'s in revenue these kids produce, because of their athletic prowess, for the benefit of the whole university. Everybody else affiliated with the universities (other students, faculty, etc..) seemingly benefits far greater from the athletes sweat equity than the athletes themselves. The current system is nothing more than "Pimps & Ho's" really. Based on how this current system is set-up allows me, in a twisted way, to appreciate the practices of the old Southwest Conference-- atleast the athletes were seeing tangible benefits for their services rendered. If this current system remains in place without any modifications, then the OSU situation and other situations concerning so-called student-athletes will continue to persist. These kids are gonna find away to get their needs and wants met one way or another. By the way, I'm in my late 30's so I do know the difference between wants & needs. When I made the statement about needs, I was speaking about needs. I guess we'll have to agree-to-disagree on this issue, because I'm very staunch in my position on this topic, and I'm sure you are very passionate about your viewpoint as well.
  11. What I've learned tonight is that our guys don't want to be there, and it really shows. Bo is chillin' too. They're out there with a "we already beat the shiznit outta you guys and don't have anything to prove nor anything to play for" attitude. This is the primary reason why I felt very strongly about declining the Holiday Bowl invitation. We got shafted already by receiving this god forsaken bowl game in the first place, especially when u consider our record. Then we got straight dissed when they serve us U Dubb again. That basically sums it up there. We should have declined the invite and avoided it like the "Bubonic Plaque" because of what were displaying tonight. But we know Dr. Tom would never allow such a scenario to play out in that manner. However, I feel strongly that Dr. Tom should have given serious thought to saying "Hell No" to the Holiday Bowl.
  12. Collegiate ballplayers should be compensated since they generate 10s, 20s, 30s of millions of dollars for the universities they represent on the gridiron. Not to mention the majority of new facilities (athletic, academia, and room & board, etc...) erected on the college campus' are funded by the revenue generated by the football program is in direct correlation by the sweat equity these youngsters and coaches put in between the hash marks. The free education rant simply doesn't fly anymore (never did really), especially when there $40k to $120k worth of tuition, books, room & board isn't the beginning of a pimple on the football programs azz and the multi-millions it generates off these kids backs, biceps, triceps, and quadriceps. I'm not saying pull a SMU circa Eric Dickerson, Craig James (the whole SWC for that matter) and put 'em on the University payroll and sign contracts, but there should be some kind of monetary compensation plan/stipend that would adequately meet the needs of 18 to 22 year old kids who generate so much money for the universities they represent. If that were done, then the likelihood of players selling their memorabilia to get money for their families or otherwise wouldn't be as likely.
  13. In all honesty, I really wanted Green to start the Big XII Championship game. My reasoning being that T-Magic wasn't 100% -- he may have only been 75% -- for Saturdays game. If Cody would've started there would, without question, be a serious commitment to run from single back & I-formation sets, with C. Green taking direct snaps from the center. The wildcat formation with Burkhead would've been intermixed in nicely. Even though Cody has pretty good speed and can run with the ball, he's not explosive like T-Magic. Therfore, Shawn will call the game conservatively -- which will allow our other offensive playmakers & impact players the opportunity to do the heavy lifting so that it isn't solely on Cody to make it happen. He can more-or-less manage the game and hit defenses with the occasional shock & awe play due to the opposing "D" not being primarily tuned in to him. When T-Magic is under center, Watson has a tendency to get too cute with the offensive gameplanning. It's great when T-Magic is 100% and can do everything the offense requires. When he's less than 100% (around 90% or less), it becomes problematic because the offense is essentially based entirely around T-Magic's athletic prowess and decision making and doesn't allow any of the other offensive playmakers and impact players the opportunity to shoulder the load if T-Magic faulters.
  14. First off, I'm new to HUSKERBOARD.com. So I will say Whassup to all members who've come before me Now as far as possibly playing in the Insight Bowl or even the Alamo Bowl,etc.... To be quite honest, I'd rather pass on any bowl that's not a BCS bowl. This season was all about going to the BCS Nat'l Championship Game or at the very least the Fiesta Bowl on our way out of this god forsaken conference. Now that its definitely not going to happen for either the BCS NC or Fiesta Bowl, I really don't care to go to any bowl game. I'm sick and tired of going to the Holiday Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Cotton Bowl, or whatever TRASH CAN BOWL that is miles beneath the standard set by this program many moons ago..... If it ain't the BCS NC, Fiesta, Sugar, Rose, or the Orange I'd rather Dr. Tom and Bo sit it out, especially when our talent level is BCS Bowl caliber. Remember, Husker Nation is one of the few programs in college football who's measuring stick is Conference Championships and Nat'l Championships. Everything else is irrelevant, particularly when we are loaded with talent like we are this year. If we were a rebuilding program, then lower tier, trash can bowls are Ok, even understandable--as it serves as positive stepping stone for big and better things in the future. However, we're not rebuilding, we are a championship, BCS Bowl caliber unit and the Insight, Alamo, Holiday, Cotton route is unacceptable and should be declined on principle alone.
