  1. Somehow I’m not thinking Jamaal Lord and Joe Dailey were the best dual threat QB’s available.
  2. I’m in 100% alignment with this. Rebuilding the program starts with beating teams with the same or less talent than us. The secondary part is competing with the best teams in the conference. Yes, it’s disappointing to be smoked like NU did, but there is a huge talent game between the two programs. The good news is that there aren’t many games (if any) like that the rest of the year. The bad news is that the PAC 12 teams will bring an influx of talent into the conference which NU will need to adjust to.
  3. I don’t think Rhule has given excuses in his press conferences. I’m pretty sure he knew that Michigan has WAY MORE TALENT than NU did in this game. What else do you want him to say?
  4. I am concerned about Haarberg getting injured, but the coaches also need to see what he has at QB. He needs to be seeing defenses. Even the backups at Michigan are pretty good.
  5. We don’t know if Sims is anywhere near healthy enough to play, and what has he shown that he should be the starter. Haarberg isn’t great or even good, but it appears none of our QB’s are any good.
  6. This is the best defense NU will play all year. HH hasn’t been great, but he still deserves to start against Illinois. See how that game goes, and then there is a bye week before the 2nd half of the season. HH probably isn’t a long-term solution, but someone needs to start this year.
  7. Part of me thinks he could use more time to develop, but I also think he needs to stay healthy.
  8. Nebraska has a first year head coach and 6 straight losing seasons. Iowa has had their coach 20+ years. Completely different situations.
  9. What does it matter? Can you name group of assistant coaches at any other school?
  10. It was always going to be an a$$-kicking this year. Expecting anything different (which you aren’t) is on you.
  11. At this point it’s a talent issue, not a coaching issue. Way too early to make any judgements on the coaching staff.
  12. I’m not a fan of heights, so those seats wouldn’t be my favorite. I sat up on a super upper deck at Texas, and while I could clearly see the game, it was too high and far from the action for my liking.
  13. Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, but I don’t know why seating capacity at Memorial Stadium would be an issue for Nebraska to join the Big Ten. Northwestern’s stadium is tiny, and it’s not like other schools (Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, etc.) have capacity near NU. I think Osborne felt there may be additional demand for attending games due to joining the Big Ten, but once the success of the team is ended and fans’ appetite to spend all day going to a football game changed, it was obvious that Memorial Stadium was over-expanded. The one thing that the new addition on the east stadium did was create more seats on the sidelines vs. the end zones. I wouldn’t like being up that high, but for too long, Memorial Stadium had too high of a percentage of overall seats in the end zones.
  14. Trev is playing chess, not checkers.
  15. Reimer and Bullock are great personal stories for working hard and persevering and developing into “starting LB’s” at NU. But, you are right, NU needs better talent identification and development from recruiting. Losing Haussmann hurts, because he was a super athlete who also could make plays on the field. Of course, he’s seeing the field for a top 5 team in the country. You know Michigan coaches were in his ear after the game last November.
  16. For those who thought that Dave Aranda took Baylor to new heights following Rhule’s departure, you all might want to see how Aranda is doing without Rhule’s players.
  17. The games after Michigan are winnable, it doesn’t mean that NU will win all of them, or even a majority of them. It just means that the remaining teams on the schedule aren’t very good. But, NU isn’t very good either.
  18. Rhule said after the game that Sims went in for that one play because Purdy was signaling in plays on that drive. After the weather delay, it was Purdy who came in to play the final 7 minutes after the game. I assume Haarberg didn’t go back in because he was too sore and beat up, and he couldn’t get loose after the delay. He was standing on the sideline looking worse for wear. If Sims were able to play any significant snaps, he would have come in those last 7 minutes.
  19. It’s not only the fans, but his players. If HH plays somewhat clean with zero or just one turnover against Michigan, but NU still loses, I could see Rhule staying with Haarberg. Sims has shown to be a good leader and teammate, but those teammates can’t handle it if he continues to have turnovers which kill the team’s chances at winning. If Haarberg is limiting his mistakes, I think he still starts.
  20. It’s amazing that in the last year of the Big Ten West, it might be the worst the division has ever been.
  21. There is also no reason to roll Sims out as the starter against Michigan, when he may not be fully healthy, and regardless how well Sims plays, NU will still lose. Sims would be 0-3 as a starter, and HH would be 2-0, and regardless of who those opponents were, fans would start to turn on Rhule.
  22. Sims is still injured, but I think Rhule and Satt are smart enough to realize that they should go with Haarberg for the time being. If anything, they roll HH back out for Michigan, and he looks like crap, so it’s easier to bring back Sims when he’s fully healthy.
  23. What have you seen from the staff makes you think they aren’t trying to win games this year. If anything, I give them credit for realizing the offense isn’t very talented, so they will most likely try to lean on defense and special teams to win games.
  24. Let me get this right, when Haarberg passes for under 50% and barely 100 yards, it’s because of some throw aways and drops, not because he’s inaccurate passer? Wow, I’m sure some NU QB’s in the past would have liked that excuse making. Haarberg has come in and done well running the ball against the 2 worst teams on NU’s schedule. I think he has earned the starting job for the time being. It still doesn’t make him a good QB.
