  1. You are probably right in that Devaney convinced Riley to fire Banker and Reed.
  2. How great would it be to see Frost running UCF's scout team? That is awesome.
  3. Perkins, Curry, Stallings (who did win a NC) were also in there. EDIT-Didn't see Stalling in your original post, my bad.
  4. That was Riley throwing a good buddy of his a few thousand $ a year. I think it would be funny if Moos brought Devaney into his office next week and asked him Office Space-style "What exactly do you do here?"
  5. @zoogs I don't think it's a bad thing when programs are completely blown up by a new coaching staff, especially given the new AD that has been brought in, as well. One thing that Sam McKewon has stated that has been key in the Riley failure is that he didn't blow things up in year 1. He was too nice, and trying to appease to the fans and the players, tried to stick with a lot of the existing roster and dual-threat QB system. He delayed any long-term changes until year 3. If he was going to make it work for him long-term, he should have done it year 1, thinned out the roster of guys right away, and gone with a huge recruiting class in his first full year of recruiting.
  6. No kidding. I don't see the point in keeping anyone around at this time.
  7. Exactly. About the only position coach that Frost (if it's him) would consider is Parrella (given his NU ties). Even the guys known as "ace recruiters" haven't shown me much in terms of on-field coaching, so I wouldn't be heart broken to see them leave. Usually, assistant coaches are tied to the head coaches, not the school.
  8. I think it starts at $4.0M and could go up to $4.5-$5.0M based on other schools pursuing him. EDIT-I have also said this in other threads, you pay the salary for the job/position, not necessarily the man. If the University wants to be in the top 10-15 programs nationally, I would expect the salary to match the expectations.
  9. Yeah, but you know UCF will give Frost a big raise if he continues to have a great season this season, so I would put his baseline salary at UCF at around $3.0M per year. If I were Frost and I know that NU fans are "desperate" to get me back to Lincoln, I would use that as leverage for an even higher base salary.
  10. I don't get the sentiment that Riley should be given the opportunity to replace his o-line coach and OC. How many coaches are able to replace their entire staff of assistant coaches due to 3 seasons of ineptitude. I have said this more than once, the one constant is MIKE RILEY. He's the captain of the ship that is sinking.
  11. What would you consider a lower salary for Frost? I think he will command $3.5-5.0M per year.
  12. Exactly right. I have heard countless times "would we be interested if he wasn't from Nebraska?" I think that answer should be a resounding YES. He has a great resume, that lines up with many P5 coaches that have been hired recently. The fact that he is a NU grad and knows what takes to succeed at a program like Nebraska is a BONUS.
  13. I think NU should have Frost at the top of their list of coaching candidates. The NC State head coach seems like an intriguing candidate, given his success at 2 schools, and Midwestern ties. However, he hasn't torn up the ACC, until this year. But, that's nit-picking at his resume. Shaw is an interesting name, but I doubt he ever looks to leave Stanford, unless he goes for a NFL job if Stanford struggles for a year or two. EDIT -- I think Moos will open up the checkbook for this hire. He was brought in to fix the football program, and that's going to be what he's evaluated on for his tenure at NU.
  14. Agree that is very minor stuff. His #1, 2, and 3 jobs is to head up the turnaround of NU football.
  15. The only other thing mentioned that Moos will have to do is evaluate the staffing levels at the Athletic Department. Eichorst had a LOT of support staffers, that Moos may not see as necessary and they will trim some fat there.
  16. As much as I want Riley fired, it won't make a huge difference on the timing of the firing. The athletic department can still do back-channel work with agents to identify coaching candidates, and most new coaches won't want to be announced until the end of the regular season anyway.
  17. I would rather have Frost or the next coach work to establish a new team culture during a rough schedule, than an easy one. If there are tough games and results, it will give the new coach more power to work to change to the kids.
  18. Why were you a fan to begin with? Was it just the winning from the last 30 years of the 1900s? Well, I'm a fan because I was born and raised in Nebraska and I am a proud alumni of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Cornhuskers represent my school and my home state and my extended family. Maybe get back to those roots, and you will be able to still be a fan with or without Scott Frost.
  19. Why let Riley take the sinking ship further down into the water? Let Frost (or whomever is named coach) get into Lincoln this year and start making wholesale changes. I don't care if this hurts this year's recruiting class. One "poor" recruiting class is better than one more year of terrible leadership and pushing a turnaround down another year.
  20. I agree. I don't get the love for Gruden. He hasn't coached in nearly 10 years, and he would want to stick with a pro-style offense which I don't think is a good fit for the college game.
  21. It would be a shame for NU to lose a head coach because they weren't willing to shell out the necessary cash to get them. The athletic department basically prints money, and the contract of the next coach shouldn't be an issue.
  22. I wouldn't worry too much about Frost's offense. He's smart enough to do whatever it takes to succeed against RB team their playing against. He QB'ed in the WCO and the power run game (with a little spread option thrown in) in college, defended against NFL offenses as a pro, and has been both a DC and OC at the college level.
  23. I understand your concern, but how many power 5 head coaches who are actually "successful" are in a place to leave their current school in favor of another? It just doesn't happen very often.
