  1. When we stop giving targets to Cotton and give them to Carter instead. In 2-tight end sets, Cotton may be the open guy because of all the attention that Carter attracts. It's not as simple as just saying "stop targeting Cotton". 12 personnel is liked by Langsdorf and Riley because it gives the offense balance and ability to pass and run from the formation.
  2. Yes, he said it. Who really cares? Wouldn't you be a little fired up if the team you coach for just beat the crap out of the team you coached for just the past year? He was coaching at ISU and done with NU at the time. There are a lot of coaches who end up coaching against their alma mater. I am sure it's a good feeling to beat them. I am sure Bohl was extra fired up to face NU this weekend, and he was fired nearly 15 years ago.
  3. The announcers said that Jackson hurt his quad in the 2nd quarter. I haven't heard the extent of the injury, and I didn't see any others during the game.
  4. I've learned that the "Greatest Fans in College Football" don't apply to pieces of crap on anonymous internet message boards.
  5. All the Cottons represented the University with class and solid play. But people who never sniffed the field at NU want to complain that they suck or are worthless.
  6. Ben Cotton? forget it....he's on a roll Sorry, there were so many of those worthless Cottons I forget there names! Yeah, gosh darn those Cotton kids for putting in a combined 15 years at NU and representing the University and their home state. They should be ashamed of themselves.
  7. I dunno about that, Tommy nearly threw two more picks. He had a decent day and didn't lose the game for us. I hate the "nearly threw more picks" comment. All QB's will have INT's dropped or have passes "nearly picked". The bottom line is that Tommy has thrown 1 INT this year in 44 pass attempts. To me, that's not a terrible %. Going into the year, if Tommy were to throw 6 INT's for the entire season that would be great. I would be pleased at anything 10 or under. I think the near INT comment is perfectly valid against an opponent like Wyoming. When people make comments like this they're thinking about what those throws will turn into when we face a decent opponent. More than likely they will be interceptions. 100% correct. Against Oregon those two near picks ARE picks and one is a pick 6. That changes the game in a very bad way for us against higher quality competition. Ummm...no. DBs drop INTs all the time, NFL included. You're nitpicking a little here. Oregon has more talented players than Wyoming. They're more likely to catch those errant passes. Sorry but I don't necessarily agree. I don't think teams recruit cornerbacks for their catching ability. Cornerbacks drop INTs all the time, at every level.Saying that an Oregon DB is going to make that a pick 6 is pure speculation. It hasn't happened, so we don't know if it will. DBs are made DBs because they don't catch the ball well enough to be a WR, along with their coverage skills and athletic ability.
  8. Lesser talented teams have to hope to play smart and let the other teams make mistakes. That's how Northwestern won 10 games last year. That's how Illinois and Purdue beat Nebraska last year. It was working for Wyoming for 3 quarters, even with 2 missed FG's. Then the 4th quarter all went to crap for the Cowboys.
  9. I like Armstrong running, but not a fan of the QB sweeps that they kept on calling today. I would like to see some pass-run option and bootlegs with Tommy. I think Langsdorf could design plays that like, considering they don't exactly excel elsewhere in the QB run game design.
  10. Completely agree. He has become a scapegoat for all the teams faults. That one play was stupid, but otherwise pretty lights out. While Tommy only threw one interception today, two other passes could've and should've been picked off, one of them probably a pick 6. Tommy did mostly good today but he was really lucky those two passes didn't get picked. I'd give him a B+ for today. And what exactly is wrong with a B+ grade. I agree Tommy doesn't deserve an A for today's play, but it was pretty darn good.
  11. So, it's not just NU fans who don't know how to spell Armstrong's first name.
  12. I learned that NU is 2-0 against the spread so far this year.
  13. Exactly!! Those were with the running game averaging 3.5 yards per carry. If it weren't for Tommy's play in the passing game, NU could have lost.

  15. Ideally, I think the sweet spot for Tommy pass attempts is around 25. Wyoming has a good run defense and they sold out to stop the run, so NU had to pass more. I did think there were times where Langsdorf could have stuck with the run a little more, but he saw all the big plays coming in the passing game. It's a 4 quarter game. NU did a good job of taking away Wyoming's strength in the run game and Wyoming had to pass more often. While Wyoming succeeded passing in the first 2 1/2 quarters, those pass attempts added up and they started having more mistakes and NU was getting turnovers. Tommy and the offense did a great job of turning those turnovers into points. Tommy also had a great drive when Wyoming cut the lead to 24-17. NU needed a score and they got it.
  16. To me, there are only a few games where NU shouldn't outclass their opponent. Those are: Oregon, Wisky, Ohio State, and Iowa. Yes, NU will need to play well against those teams, but I think NU is improving to where NU should be able to win at least 1, if not 2 or 3 of those games.
  17. I think it is due to the fact Tommy is a Senior, a 3rd year starting QB and that one mistake in the redzone was flashbacks to what has always seemed to be a problem with him and his decision making. I think most of us would hope after 3 years of being a starting QB at the D-1 level at Nebraska those type of mental mistakes would be gone by now. It just makes it hard to trust him in big time situations. He is what he is. Yes, he needs to cut down those mistakes, but it was only 1 huge mistake. He more than made up for it with his play the rest of the game. Against Oregon one huge mistake can and will cost you the game. If you get into the redzone vs Oregon you need to score a TD. FGs and turnovers does not beat the Ducks. And my God almighty, Riley should know this since he faced Oregon and saw that machine from 45 miles away for years. Just hope the players realize it and can comprehend it.I realize that one mistake can cost the Oregon game, but why is the focus just on Tommy's mistakes. What about all the penalties from the entire team? What about giving the freshman punter a green light to run a fake punt? Around college football, when teams are sloppy and undisciplined, a lot of the blame goes to the coaches. Here it seems like it's given to one particular player.

  19. It's a totally different game thru 3 quarters if there aren't 2 TD's called back for penalties and the D is able to stop a 4th down and long (semi Hail Mary).
  20. Ok, I keep seeing all the posts about bonehead Tommy plays. Exactly how many "stupid mistakes" did he make out there? I'm just curious. I know the INT was beyond stupid, but is that play going to cloud everyone's judgement on other plays that he did make?
  21. Wyoming was selling out to stop the run, leaving passing lanes wide open for the most part. NU did a good job of making them pay in the passing game. There were times when Tommy got "cold" in the 3rd quarter where I thought NU could have ran more, but Wyoming was taking that facet of the offense out of the game.
  22. Look, I know Tommy wasn't perfect today, but when you have him throw 35 times, he's gonna make some bad throws and decisions. Today, the good Tommy was very, very good though.
