  1. Beautiful. Can't wait to have a healthy Pierson-El in the mix next fall. Hopefully we get to see him at the spring game! On the sideline with no pads on? I see no need to play him in the spring game. Yeah, I don't think he will participate in Spring drills. He needs to get 100% healthy and be ready for fall camp. No use having him go through Spring practice.
  2. Sharp & Benning made an interesting point this morning in that they wonder if Parrella would have been more "accepted" by fans if he were hired a year ago, when Hughes was originally hired. There was criticism that Riley didn't put anyone with Nebraska ties on his original NU coaching staff, and Parrella was considered for the job a year ago.
  3. I think it's very helpful to the other coaches on the staff to have a guy who has first-hand experience on what it's like to be a Nebraskan and a former player/Blackshirt at the school.
  4. Here are the reasons I like the hire, in no particular order. 1) He's a former Husker - while this isn't a necessity to be a NU coach, Parrella is a guy who understands the culture of Lincoln and what it takes to be successful in college football and at NU 2) Long NFL career - 12 years in the NFL can be a great selling point for recruiting guys, even if he's not a house hold name. He has experience in what it takes to be successful at the highest level of football. Yes there is a question in whether he can "teach" it to kids, but I like his chances. Plus, he played for Banker, so he coaching the philosophy of Banker's D isn't going to be foreign. 3) Ties to California - there will be a lot of coaches in California high schools who are familiar with Parrella and who will welcome him into their school 4) Recent knowledge with high school kids - he started a football program in high school, so that takes a lot "recruiting" to get kids to come out for football and he probably has a good understanding of what today's high school kids are thinking about 5) Some coaching experience - I understand Parrella doesn't have 10-20 years of coaching experience, but he does have experience coaching D-line camps and has been coaching in high school and smaller college level. That level of kids aren't oozing with talent, so those kids are going to need good teaching and coaching to become good ball players. Overall, I think he's a good fit with the program and current coaching staff.
  5. Who's Matt Davidson??BC is making a joke about all the people call Matt Davison by Matt Davidson. It's very similar to Jason Peters and Grant Winstrom.
  6. Brian Christopherson ‏@HuskerExtraBC 3m3 minutes ago Parrella. Two R's. Two L's. In the name of Matt Davidson, we can do this, people.
  7. Nice. My uncle was a walk-on safety on the team from 93-96, talk about golden years to be a student and a player! What were you up to during those years, LOMS? Living in North Dakota being lucky to see 2-3 games per year on TV and having no idea what was happening as a 6 year old. Young pup.
  8. I don't see it happening. Kiper has VV with a 3rd-4th round grade.
  9. That would never happen. These players aren't even supposed to wear nike shorts to sleep in much less for a game on national tv. It would be a direct violation of the contract between UNL and adidas. Really? You don't think Adidas will recognize how they f'd our uni's for the last couple of years and let a competitor give it a go? I'm sure they are more reasonable than that. I thought your initial post was a joke. That would never, ever, ever, ever happen. I think you guys aren't giving Adidas enough credit. They seem to be open minded to letting any dipsh*t design clothing so it shouldn't be a stretch they would let another brand do it. Yeah, and they would let Nike and Under Armour put the swoosh or UA on the Huskers uniform for one game a year for no compensation? You don't know much about how business works. I do know how business works. I own one. I think Adidas would look at it as a loss leader. They lose money for the one game but they get great recognition for not designing a horrible looking alternate uniform. It's really a win-win So if you paid millions of dollars to be the exclusive uniform and shoe supplier for a large university, you would be completely fine with a competitor giving that university uniforms for "one game" because you don't do a good job designing alternate uniforms for football.

  12. I'm not talking through three games I'm talking throughout a career. Don't get me wrong Ryan is a very nice player I just don't see top 15 draft eligible college prospect The guy had one bad series. It's a bit of a small sample size to say he's gonna suck this year and he's overrated. Never once did I say he sucked. Just saying for a guy who only had 10 extra base hits all of last year doesn't exactly scream 1st or even 2nd round talent Did someone say he was 1st or 2nd round talent? Serious question. He was drafted out of HS in the 22nd. Not sure where he would be today. I think Boldt was rated among the top 100 draft eligible players in the preseason by some publications. Regarding his extra base hits last season, didn't Boldt hit leadoff most season? He was probably asked to get on base, and sacrifice some power for contact hitting. This year, as a #2 hitter, he will be able to go for more power. It will be interesting to see how Erstad taking control of the offense has an impact on Boldt. The only thing a leadoff hitter is going to do is take more pitches. It's not necessarily going to change his swing from going the 1 to the 2 spot. I disagree. The leadoff guy is asked to get on base no matter what, while the 2nd hole hitter is asked to more at the plate. This includes taking pitches to allow a base runner to steal, moving runners over, hit and runs, hitting for power, etc. That's really only to start the game. The rest of the game the leadoff guy could be up third that inning or even with guys on base. Each at bat changes throughout the game and in different situations guys are asked to due different things. Yes, each at bat changes throughout the game, but typical leadoff hitters are high OBP guys who are asked to "set the table" for the "big hitters" behind them. You are right in that they may only "lead off" an inning once a game, but it doesn't mean they turn into power hitting bashers after the first inning.

  15. I'm not too familiar with him. Big question is, can he recruit? Parrella was an All Big 8 DT in the early 90s. He had a long career in the NFL for the Bills, Chargers (played for Riley there), and Raiders. He has spent the past few years coaching in smaller college ranks. I have no idea if he is a good recruiter.
  16. I would be really happy if it were Perrella. NU guy, long career in the NFL. Familiar with Riley.
  17. I know that all the ages on here vary greatly, so I think it would be interesting to see what people on the board were doing during the 1994 and 1995 seasons. I was those 2 seasons were my first 2 years at UNL, so it was an awesome time for me. Enjoying college life and watching the team dominate was so fun.
  18. I know that the CU documentary was driven by a bunch of former CU players, so it steered away from the negativity of Coach Mac. If there are former NU players with a lot of input with this NU doc, then it will most likely be positive. But, the doc can't totally ignore the off the field issues.

  20. I think it's going to cover the 94 and 95 teams. The '94 team is probably going to cover how the team overcame disappointment from the loss to FSU the prior year, dealing with the injuries, Brook playing such a pivotal role, Frazier coming back to lead the team in the Orange Bowl. The '95 discussion will probably be about trying to repeat, the sheer dominance of the team, the Phillips situation, and Frazier being the face/leader of the team.

  22. McCartney actually IS a crazy old man With a daughter who made her way through the entire football team.
  23. Davie has always had great athleticism, he just may not be a "football player".
  24. I like to get nice gear because I like to represent the school that I graduated from and the school that I will always support.
  25. Nike would make a killing from all the Husker fans ditching their old Adidas Husker gear in favor of the new Nike Husker gear. Well, at least a couple hundred bucks from me. Do you throw out old Husker Gear? Isn't it agains a man law or something to keep every piece of your teams clothing? If it doesn't fit or is smelly or stained or just darn super old, I will throw it out. I don't need to break out my '94 Unfinished Business National Championship t-shirt to show what type of super fan I am.
