  1. Well, Riley won't have to coach those seniors, so it's a moot point. The Sr's can try to "poison" the other guys, but it will be the other guys sticking around and going through winter conditioning, spring practice, summer conditioning, etc.
  2. Riley has shown that if he has a stud RB or two, he will rely on the run. Steven Jackson had over 300 carries his sophomore and junior seasons (before going to the NFL).
  3. I think TA will be regulated to back-up duties, as well. Or he will start the season, and end up losing his job midway through the season.
  4. I'm holding out for the return of Apex coaches gear.
  5. Without knowing any of Riley's assistants at this time, this list is pretty limited to offensive players. But, which players will benefit most from the Mike Riley hire? Here are my initial thoughts. 1. Adam Taylor -- the key is getting him healthy. But, Mike'l Severe said that he could be the new Stephen Jackson for Riley at Nebraska. 2. Cethan Carter -- Tim Beck thought the tight end position was an afterthought. Oregon State's #1 TE has had over 30 catches a season the past 3 years. Cethan could see a lot more targets going forward, and that would be great to see. 3. Johnny Stanton -- buried in the depth chart this past season, I would assume the QB position will be open for competition. Riley supposedly recruited him hard out of high school, so this could be the QB that benefits the most. I also could see Riley bringing in a JUCO QB for some competition. 4. Kendall Bussey -- now this assumes that he stays with his commitment. But, Riley has had RB's make it to the NFL. Riley can sell him on that during the recruiting process. Any others you guys have thoughts on?
  6. The shoe and approval contract is with the entire University and Athletic Department. It's not dependent on the coach.
  7. Are people just complaining about Riley, so that if he does fail, they can say "I told you so".
  8. For those who say he hasn't won anything at Oregon State, I kinda get that. But, Oregon State was AWFUL until he really came along. Getting that program to have any success, has to mean he is at least a good coach. Now, will he be able to get NU to the championship level, that will have to play itself out.
  9. Honestly, I don't mind the hire. I don't know what "big name" people thought was going to come to Nebraska. Tressel was never going to come to NU. Riley is a proven coach, he is known as a good recruiter, he is a nice guy (opposite of Bo). Yeah, he hasn't had "great" records at Oregon State, but he has done the best of anyone at that school. My only concern is his age. At 61, how long will it be before NU is looking for another coach?
  10. This is what I'm afraid might be happening. I hope I'm wrong. I want to be wrong. It's only been 4 days. In the immortal words of Aaron Rodgers "R-E-L-A-X".
  11. Has everyone gotten their hopes up with the idea of Tressel coming to Nebraska, to the point where you guys are going to be disappointed with any other coach named? Do we even know if Tressel has been interviewed by SE? Are the rumors all due to the Where's Waldo type sightings of Tressel in Lincoln?
  12. I don't understand the anger that many fans are having regarding Bielema. Look at the facts here: 1. He has a lot of experience as head coach (which many people want) 2. He knows how to win in the Big Ten 3. He utilizes a power running game and strong defense, which is right out of Nebraska history books
  13. +1 I mean, I think the new coach should be reading random Husker message boards to get the fans' input on who should be on his staff. That's the only right way!!!
  14. It's not the majority of the fans, but it's the crazy lunatics who do tweet something to that player. Then that player isn't smart enough to realize that this lunatic doesn't speak for 99% of the fans, and the player gets a negative attitude about the fans.
  15. The internet had made the world a bunch of a-holes. Like Teach pointed out, it's so much easier to find a player on Twitter or Instagram or whatever and say "Nice pass, loser. Way to lose the game for us." This is being done while sitting at home, on his smart phone, without any worries about consequences. Yes, some will say "then these players shouldn't have access to social media." But, that's how so many of kids today communicate. Plus, that coach would be raked over the coals for "not being in touch with today's kids" and "that's going to really hurt him on recruiting".
  16. There are a lot of coaches out there who coach well into their 70ies. I'm 68 and still work every day and plan to keep it up. Don't be so short sighted. PJ would be perfect for us and no where near the risk we would be taking with a 20/30 something OC with zero HC experience. T_O_B You're old.
  17. Judging from the rumors about Kaz said after receiving the news of Bo's firing, I would be very surprised if Kaz wanted to stick around.
  18. Becasue he isn't old staff (yet), he is current staff. Bo is the only one that is gone. They still have jobs to do as of now. Then why is this breaking news? It's a scoop that he is the only Bo assistant being allowed to go visit recruits. The other guys are probably being asked to coach through the bowl game, but they can also start looking for other jobs.
  19. It probably means that Eichorst likes him, and the message he will be able to give recruits. It doesn't give any indication that Warren would stay, but it could be an indication that Eichorst will recommend Warren to the new coach. Of course, the new coach should have 100% autonomy on hiring his staff, but he may end up liking Warren.
  20. Charlton Warren is the one coach allowed to go out to visit recruits, per Sean Callahan. I know the new HC will be allowed to name his own full staff, but it would be nice to keep Warren around.
  21. Paul Johnson is 57-years old. How does that make him "young enough so that he could be at Nebraska for 20 years"? I would be concerned about his age within 5-10 years from now.
  22. I guess we need to expect these players to be robots, have no feelings, just practice, study their playbook, go to class, and not say anything to anyone. They can't have fun of any kind. They can't do anything on social media. They can't go to bars or parties. They can't try to bang a chick. Do I have all this right?
  23. I don't get all the anger towards these kids for using Twitter and other social media. This is what kids do!! It's not like they are posting dong pics or naked pics of the girl they banged the night before. I think that they will grow out making every thing they do a public spectacle. But right now they are 18-23 year old kids.
  24. Snyder is 75. TO only retired because of his agreement with Frank. 61 shouldn't be an issue. Snyder is 75. TO only retired because of his agreement with Frank. 61 shouldn't be an issue. Left out Franky Solich at a young 70.Yes Snyder is old and so was Osborne, but they were also at their schools forever. Tressel would be 61 starting at a new program for him. That would be used against him in recruiting.
  25. I know Tressel is a splash hire, but he is 61 years old. That's pretty old to be starting at a new school. I don't think he will be the choice.
