  1. Really? I think we'll match up pretty well with any defense in the B1G regarding speed. Kinnie as our possession guy, then Kenny Bell and Quincy Enunwa as the burners, with Kyler Reed at TE, that's going to pose speed matchup problems for most any team, and especially in the Big 10. agreed. b10 defenses are big and bulky. Kyler Reed may end up being one of the most valuable players on our offense this season
  2. im frustrated that these reporters dont understand the point of the peso.
  3. Well said. If I never hear another thing about Oregon and their offense again I will be happy. It's even worse when people compare our new offense without even seeing it yet to possibly being like theirs. Cringeworthy. Nebraska's Opponents' Avg. Defensive Rank: 73.3 Oregon's Opponents' Avg. Defensive Rank: 70.4 Nebraska Offense Points Per Game: 30.85 Oregon Offense Points Per Game: 47 I also don't understand why there's this big mystery concerning what our offense is going to look like. We've been moving towards the spread option since Bo became head coach. His release of Watson and promotion of Tim Beck was simply the latest installment of that transformation, not a change of direction. You've got recruits saying that we're going to do more of what Oregon does in order to play to Martinez's strengths. You've got Mangino and other old acquaintances of Beck saying he'll play to the strengths of his personnel (with Martinez, that would be spread option). You've got them talking about moving at a faster tempo, looking to the sideline for audibles, being a run-first offense, they're recruiting little scatbacks like the ones Oregon recruits, they've been recruiting running QBs, and Tim Beck himself coached a flexbone option offense at the high school level before transforming it into a spread option type offense. I think there is literally nothing but blind, misplaced hope which is leading people to think that there is going to be some change in the direction of our offense away from the spread option. I will be absolutely shocked if it is not some version of the spread option, and I'd be surprised if it doesn't look fairly similar to Oregon's base offense. I agree. I dont think there is any question we will be running a spread option next year. But every team has their own variation of it to optimize the talents of the players on the field. When i said i hope we dont run anything like that i was referring to the trailing back that goes 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage before the ball is hiked. I love the spread/zone option but i do not want us to try to act too flashy and end up with half the plays ending up with negative yardage.
  4. i personally do not like oregons offense at all. If they didnt have the ridiculous speed that they did in the backfield i just feel like it wouldnt work. I really hope for our sake we dont try this.
  5. although these teams run a version of a spread they are still not the small quick spreads we are used to seeing. As an iowa student with season tickets, i have seen every big ten team play and seen true spread teams like arizona come in. The spread is a merely a playbook. They dont play as fast but they definitely play bigger. Another common trend i notice in the big ten is that every playcall is strategic. With the exception of ohio st, teams just dont bring in the talent that is in the big 12. Nobody just throws the ball down field the whole game like say a ttech or okst did. The 50-49 games are over. expect teams to come out, play field position, and try to wear you down and beat you in the fourth quarter. The offenses arent as prolific but that doesnt mean the games will be less exciting. Expect to have 6 conference games decided by 1 possession regardless of whether we are 11-0 or 0-11
  6. The jet sweep is probably the most effective way to do this. Motion a slot receiver across the middle and hike it just before he gets to the qb and make the first read right away then you have the qb/rb option or you could do the qb/rb option first and have the wr trail. It has become the staple of georgia techs option. Florida used to do it with harvin and tebow but they normally didnt use the rb as a third option so essentially it was just a zone read
  7. But Madison is hands down the best place to go watch a game. I will say the similar jerseys will be frustrating
  8. i know im looking way ahead here but i absolutely cannot wait for the huskers to come play in iowa city. Good atmosphere awesome food(remember to get the big azz turkey legs) and pretty respectful fans as long as you arent a cyclone. And as a lone husker fan in IC, i cant wait for bragging rights
  9. College football live the other day when Tom Lugenbill was talking about Nebraska? I got a twitter notification saying that he was going to discuss how the 2011 recruiting class will help nebraska in the big ten but I didnt get a chance to watch it.
  10. Meh. Harrell is a horrible comparator. The NFL screws up on talent evals all the time. Ryan Leaf gets drafted #2 overall and has a truly horrific career. Kurt Warner was an undrafted free agent who couldn't get a shot at a starting job. Harrell would be a fine NFL quarterback. Don't underestimate the obstinance of NFL groupthink. Yeah your exactly right but that wasn't my point. I was just trying to say that you cant project where he will drafted solely based on stats which is what seemed to be the argument before

  12. Well these "quiet" stats, 32 tackles, 6 sacks, 15.5 TFL, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery were loud enough to get 63 million over five years and the third pick in the draft. Gerald McCoy put those numbers up in the same defensive system of taking up blockers to free up LBs. guys guys breaking down how players will translate to the next level doesn't have that much to do with production especially on defense. its all about judging your potential based a combination of height/weight/40 time etc etc. Im not saying performance on the field doesnt count, clearly it does, but look at someone like graham harrell from texas tech. threw for 8 million yards over his career and nobody has heard of him since. Just dont get too hung up on stats
  13. During the under armour all american practice they were talking about jamal turner and according to them bo said he will not be redshirted and he will enter lincoln as a quarterback. Does anyone think he has a chance?
  14. i read today that the division names got a 90 percent disapproval rating. Hilarious
  15. I like this!!!! But do the divisions only apply to football. Would their be division splits in basketball(doesnt SEC do this?) or baseball???? if not then I guess this couldnt work. They do play baseball in Big 10 dont they. You never hear about any of their baseball teams. You should email Delany your suggestion!! Big ten baseball is awful. Usually only the conference champ makes it to regionals. Michigan got to the super regionals one year i guess
  16. Yes. For all the talk of it not being geographical, throw up a map of the states (as miami did in a previous thread) and it's pretty strikingly not randomly distributed across the map. Ah, here's a map, from HI. Non geographic split? C'mon, Big Ten guys...did you even look at the map first?! The divisions were split up to be even. It didnt have anything to do with geographical layout
  17. I had heard Wegher wanted to go to neb more than hampton but i dont know if i want him anyway i mean he bailed on iowa year. But in a press conference yesterday ferentz said wegher was going to be released to transfer to a non big 10 school. So obviously neb is out
  18. Oregon really lives off the zone read, which is more or less what we are trying to do. Granted, they have been perfecting that system and have the OL for it while we are in year 1, and a bit different in style. Plus, their offense completely disappeared against California so it's not like it's been totally consistent And they played a lot of bad defenses. No, I like Oregon's offense a lot. Just being contentious here. there is a big difference between the nebraska option and the oregon option. And as much as i loved the days of the option i just dont know if i want that back. The level of defensive athleticism has changed dramatically in the last decade and im afraid it wouldnt work as well
  19. they dont look any different. They are not trying to copy pro combats they are just 30& percent lighter than they used to be
  20. alright i have seen every single big ten team play in the past three years (mostly at kinnick) but this is what i can tell you about every team Wisconsin.....HUGE! They are very very big and will try to run right at the heart of our defense all game and wont be intimated by our speed. And camp randall is nuts. Really a tough way to start the big ten. Idk bout this game Minnesota. Cupcake. Under no circumstance should we lose this game. They really were out manned all year (except against iowa) haha Michigan St. They run well and play good defense. Im assuming cousins will return for his senior year and hes pretty solid but they are definitely, definitely overrated this year. Northwestern..Honestly one of the best coached teams in the conference. Persa was quietly one of the best qbs in the nation this year. I know what your thinking but go look at his stats before you say anything. I have seen iowa lose like 6 of the last 7 to these guys and it scares me. Ohio State...speed...easily the most athletic team in the big ten every year. Really the only team in the conference who will be better than us next year. Penn St. They run a weird spread type offense that reminds me of mizzou. But after all its linebacker u so thats never good for a running team like us. Royster is gone i believe though. He was a disappointment anyway this year. Michigan. Everyone will be looking forward to denard vs tmagic (assuming hes healthy) But as everyone knows their defense is pretty pathetic and we are too fast on defense for any nebraska fan to be worried about this game. finally iowa. First of all i want everyone to look forward to this game and what i think will be a huge rivalry in the future. Both teams travel sooo well and we are so close geographically. I think that the iowa game will have consistant conference title game implications i wouldnt be surprised if the husker faithful bring 35k fans to iowa city and vice versa. But iowa has a different identity every year. Lsst year stanzi made every play possible and this year they couldnt do anything on either side of the ball in the fourth quarter. We win this game Personally i think we will get two losses in there somewhere. I think we split ohio st wisconsin and lose to someone stupid probably michigan st or northwestern. But we are going to be the best team in our division and probably make the title game. I will say that i am very excited to not play illinois. They played pretty solid at times this year
  21. alright although i love my huskers i attend the university of iowa and last night every iowa fan heard the news that rb jewel hampton was transferring. Jewel has had some injury problems but he has shown when he played that he was an absolute stud. I have heard all around iowa city that nebraska is his clear cut choice and its all up to the athletic director to release him to transfer to another big ten school. Although its been limited, i have seen him play and hes awesome will be a great compliment to burkhead
