We used to take farm boys and turn 2, 3, even 4 of them into all Americans each yr. Now we take potential all americans and slowly erode their skills to the point of good talent but poor consistency. If they are lucky they go to the nfl in the 7th round and then after two years of coaching become starters and studs. This will be cottons last season or the begining of the end for the pelini era.

For quite a while I thought cotton was the weak link. This year before any transfers or people quitting i figured we had a lot of talent but that it was sketchy at best wether it would manifest into a decent oline. I figured cotton would be promoted by now to atleast director of athletic mobility post practice and after study hall. I for one don't know how a guy who cant coach, cant recruit and has no personality relating to an 18 yr old can be at nebraska....sorry barney.

While you can't fire a coach for a player leaving, there is a pattern emerging. Today there is going to be a team meeting and a coaches meeting im sure. I would hope a reevaluation of our oline progress under cotton is in order. one can only hope that the solution presents itself in the form of a new man in charge of the oline.

As long as there is no more cowering in the fetal position ill be happy.

Someone needs to kid nap him and bring him to Lincoln prior to that event. Probably only chance we have.

I don't even think he will visit. Especially after the offer u$c and o$u and Hoke give him. If we land this guy perhaps the mayans were correct.

If I wanted us to be like U$C or any other prominent $EC school I would just deliver a big wad of cash in a Husker envelope to Cravens and give him a wink. Unfortunately I am better than that and even if I was as dirty as the other schools.....Im BROKE.

Hope im wrong but I think that Nebraska is in for a rough year. We have to close the deal this yr with some super studs and fill up with elite talent like THIS kid Mathis. If this season goes south, many fans will whine and moan about pelini and hot seat etc. This is never good for recruiting. We need to seal the deal with every elite stud we can and make sure our roster is loaded for 2014. I see a tough schedule mixed with so many questions on both of our lines for next season. I see potential but realistically I think we are going to have 5-6 losses soley because we failed to recruit well the first two/three seasons under pelini. We need to recruit, recruit, recruit. If somehow we emerge as a contender this year that would help but somehow we must get these type kids and get them in droves.

For those saying we haven't had luck with Green's ....uh....what yr were you born? Ahman green was a super stud.

I see 2012 as another average yr. Ok qb but less than stellar. No standout dlineman...no fantastic olineman but enough solid players to stay decent. Issues I see....new dline coach...new dc...new db coach and no real leadership except burkhead yet**. Offense is going to have to pull their weight ...no excuses for sucking. Ironically I think our best position next yr will be wr. Turner, enunwa, bell, Allen, and westerkamp....can we get them the ball? We will find out.

Given such a small class size we should have been full in October. Its an ok class for nebraska. I dont think we will ever get much better really. Never will we get shizzle or bling type guys. Only utility type atheletes and work in progress type guys. So realistically I think in four years we will look back and say wow this guy and that guy were great but him and him and him and him...eh. I'm guess nebraska will be about 9-4, 10-3 and guys like seisay and Anderson will be NFL bound leaving only a couple big impact guys. Can't wait to see who emerges.

This thread is defining why bigtime schools get 2-3 top qbs every year. Its the most important position on the field and literally makes or breaks your offense. We suck on offense because we have no elite qb play for atleast a decade. Simple as that.

We need to get dudes like this early and kick a$$ so we keep their commitment. This guy is a stud let's go get 29 more just like him.

While literally laughing at posts in this thread I really had a moment. I am guilty of thinking our recruiting classes suck. Nebraska has won nothing of significance since most of these 17 and 18 yr olds have been old enough to have remembered. Given our locale and weather patterns and such, its complete foolishness to assume we would ever be a football giant. We are fortunate to win what we win these days given the change in football to a money driven enterprise. Osborne took twenty years to win one. Maybe one day we will be back to that level. Until then......im happy with pelini and 9 win seasons. GBR.

Peat needs to tell everyone out there he is going to stanford. Then get ESPN all fired up about it and have there guys all ready to interview stanford coach. Then peat needs to pick up the stanford hat and light that bitch on fire and set it on the table. Then pull out a husker hat..put it on and tear off his suit showing a big painted N on his chest. Take that ESPN!

We as a staff are just not very good at recruiting. It's that simple. Coaches have recruiting reputations for a reason. Our staff views recruiting differently than most.

If he is cleared to play thats the best recruiting news we have received all yr.

We really need this kid. Especially if Charles Jackson doesnt ever make it. Even so we need more dbs. We should have pushed harder earlier. Didnt we come into the picture kinda late on this kid? I hope he likes the colors red and white tommorow. Maybe see a nebraska lic. plate or two on way to sign.

I would think that if we whiff on a couple guys tommorow that Sebastian smith is the backup plan. If you see us make a late push at smith tommorow thats probably due to moore or shelton or both going elsewhere. I would not mind seeing this kid N. I think he has a huge upside if his grades are in order. It sounds like Afalava and moore and possibly one other one have grade issues to sort out anyway so I would think we should oversign a couple guys and be ruthless like all the other D1 teams. If push comes to shove kick a few dead weights to the curb. Saban does it all the time.

I think Valentine is N but many reservations i think arise because he keeps things so quiet and is really a total mystery as to what he is really thinking. There is not much from him out there so noone really KNOWS except the coaches and people close to the situation so tommorow cant come soon enough.
