  1. The internet... respects it's impact, but don't take it to seriously...
  2. Ameer is just fine. The only problem is that the NFL doesn't draft RB's like they used to. It hasn't worked out well taking RB's high in the draft at a position that has such a short shelf life. I think he'll go either late in the second round or the third round. Gregory is a gamble. He's good against the pass. He's shown he isn't very good against the run. This might be coaching, or it might be something else. I'm sure he'll be a top 10 pick, but I also won't be surprised if we see his name as a draft bust five or ten years from now. Am I the only one that thinks Gregory was a lot better against the run then he gets credit for.... His best quality is easily rushing the passer, but I though he held up fine against the run, and his ability to catch a RB from behind the play is pretty incredible.
  3. I'm believe this is true with almost every team from HS on up. I honestly don't understand offensive philosophy anymore. I believe this is more lack of talent. Rivers & Benny and sometimes Pitchford give up the ball too quick and do not look. Benny dribbles around the arc without forcing the defense to guard him. Smith on the other had will drive and dish. I agree with you about Nebraska. But, Basketball in general is going to more of a theory of ad-lib/create on your own type philosophy. Yes, they throw out there things like certain players are supposed to screen for other players. But, there is just not a flow and an organization to basketball offenses nowadays. What that does is if you have a lack in talent where a player isn't good at creating offense on his own, it hamstrings him to not be effective on the floor. Great explanation in a few words. Move your damn feet!!! I was always taught two philosophies in basketball offense. Against Zone = You beat it by ball movement. You swing the ball as fast as you can back and forth around the arch and eventually, the defense either gets tired or lazy and you get an easy lay up or maybe 5' jumper. Against Man = You beat it with man movement. You run plays where your players are moving methodically but quickly, if you don't have a shot, you reverse it to the other side and run it again. The faster the "man" movement, the bigger the chance that you catch a player tired or lazy and you get an easy shot or layup. I don't see any teams using these fundamentals that a HS hall of fame coach (that taught me) won one hell of games with. I just don't understand what teams are trying to do. I'm sure they are trying to do something. I just don't know what it is because it makes no sense to me. I firmly believe that the old style of basketball can still win. For instance, we have a decent BB team here in HS. But, their games have scores of like 50-45 or 53-51. I remember games where our teams scored in the 80s. I believe it's because we actually had an offense had a purpose and some organization to it and everyone knew their roll and it created shots and that scored points. It comes down to knocking down shots, and Nebraska just hasn't been doing that this year. Nebraska will continue to see a lot of full court pressure because of our lack of quality PG play, and we'll continue to see a lot of zone because we can't (or haven't) knock down the outside shot. Zone defense tends to congest the lane/high post; ball movement is definitely key, but it doesn't matter if the guys aren't knocking down the outside shot. We start hitting open 3's, and executing quality drive-n-kicks, teams will quickly go away from zone. Our offense has been consistently stagnant, but I still feel it operates best against man defense.
  4. No way Taylor Swift gets more than one swing of that golf club on my car...

  5. Well, you get a list, and then based off of subjective criteria, sliding scales, and what will piss off the most passionate fanbases to drive hits, you rank them from first to last.
  6. Mark Banker @CoachBanker · 4h4 hours ago Thanks for the overwhelming welcome. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand the passion #Huskers fans have for their TEAM. #GBR Mark Banker @CoachBanker · 4h4 hours ago We look forward to the challenge of winning the #B1G Championship and making Nebraska Football relevant on the National scene.
  7. A catch-all forum for Twitter posts/interactions by Riley and the boys..... They like social media, and so do we! Me first! Mike Riley ‏@Coach_Riley 16m16 minutes ago Look who I found in Lincoln! It's @sj39! #GBR
  8. How do you rate the quality of a hire before any of them have coached a game at their new gigs?
  9. -The new coaching staff's ability to keep this class together has shown they have chops on the recruiting trail.... No matter how you feel about the new guys, it can't be denied how impressive that is. - The difference in experience between the Bo/Riley coaching staff is staggering. You have to think experience counts for something. - The early signs point to the fact that they "get it" in the modern age of CFB. The way they use social media, and embrace the blessing that is Nebraska's fanbase..... is well, a nice change.... I have more, but I'm tired of putting thoughts-to-keyboard Advantage Riley! (Polo's forecast for the next 5 years of Nebraska football aligns with my thinking as well)
  10. I've wanted to point that out for a very long time....
  11. I enjoy most of what Grantland puts out there, but contradicting themselves within an article is habitual.
  12. This place touches lives.... i guess

You touch yourself while you read HuskerBoard? Is that what you are trying to say?

  13. Again, I fully understand the importance of a big man. I consider myself well-versed in basketball, and in his original post he stated the role of a big man in a dribble-drive scenario is to " open the lane for them for a layup ".... That's just wrong. One of the reasons (not the only one) the Cavs didn't win the title the year they had Lebron, and Shaq is because Shaq's big ass was in the lane preventing Lebron from doing what he does best... Penetrating the paint, and getting to the rim. It's actually of the utmost importance to get the big man out of the lane in a dribble-drive situation, that's why that position (Center, Power Forward) is almost always the position that sets the ball screen. ---- And by "getting the big man out of the lane" I don't mean make him stand behind the 3 pt. line, I just mean to get out of the paint.... Standing there waiting for a putback is not an offense....
  14. Technically speaking, dribble penetration would be much easier without a big man in the lane ( or in the way).... The key to getting into the lane via the dribble is to stretch the floor. Your traditional big men, like the one's we are lacking, won't do that.... Big men to "open the lane for a layup" isn't something I've heard discussed in basketball circles. Sorry but I totally disagree. We need someone in there to clear the lane and rub off the defender. We don't have a good enough pg to just clear out and win one on one. Missed layups and whining about contact is a huge factor there as well. Also when we do miss we have someone there to rebound, and if they start making the put backs they eventually sag making it easier for the shooters to get a good open look in rythem which they need badly. We don't have a true set shooter with Walter stinking it up right now. We are just way to easy to defend without a big in the game. I agree that we need a big man wholeheartedly, I wasn't arguing that. I was just pointing out that a big man standing in the lane waiting for a putback, doesn't help your ability to dribble-drive, or get into the lane. It just doesn't.... You get into the lane by spreading the floor out, and then crashing the boards once the shot goes up.... Basketball 101
  15. Don't look at it as "how many channels do I get", but "how many channels do I actually watch".... I think it's a fine deal... BUT, No B1G Network.
  16. Good post. I realize people are wired different, or cut from a different cloth, but I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around your situation. It's clear that you seem to have some real issues. That's unfortunate, and I feel for ya. However, it's equally as clear that these issues can't possibly stem from the members of Huskerboard, or the overall mood of the board. If they do, this place carries way too much clout in your life. Letting a message board even partially dictate your mood seems dangerous. Log off Huskerboard, and get some help man. And Good luck.

  18. Good point. Tarin Smith could maybe work in to that. Tai is awful with pressure in his face. Benny has his moments, but isnt nifty with his passes.. If we could bring one guy back from the last 5 years to feel that PG void, it would have to be Lance Jeter. Big man issue will continue to be a problem because Les and Moses graduate this year. Pitch needs to eventually accept he needs to get rebounds and play down low. Don't even get me started on Pitchford. Rebounding the basketball is a mindset, an attitude.... Given his size there is zero reason he can't get between 8-11 rebounds a game. It just has to matter to him..... I meant to mention Smith in my original post. He definitely has that potential.... Pitchford has been the biggest disappointment on this team with Tai Webster being a distant second. He seems disinterested in doing anything but throw up 3 pointers. I question his work ethic, big time. I agree. Webster tries really hard, I just don't think the talent is there, despite what we all originally thought.... I think he'll be solid in the future, but not what we had hoped... And Pitchford.... Yeah....
