slacker
Irregular News for 01.18.07 York, PA -- A federal judge has ruled that the city of York violated the civil rights of anti-abortion protesters by placing them at the end of Halloween parades. The Rev. James Grove, the pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Loganville, and some of his followers were relegated to the end of the parade in 2004 and 2005. Grove's group carried large pictures of aborted fetuses as part of their protest. The city argued that police could more easily protect the group at the end of the parade, but U.S. District Judge Sylvia Rambo ruled that the city's concerns were matters more of convenience than necessity. Rambo said the city violated the group's free speech rights. source Quote Link to comment

gamecocks
I don't get it, how exactly were their free speech rights violated? They still got to be in the parade, they had the opportunity to voice their opinions. How does being at the end of the parade differ from being in the middle of the parade? Quote Link to comment

No one ever pays as much attention to the last thing in a parade, so I suppose their argument is that the city intentionally put them at the end so that they would get less attention. A hard argument to make, but one that could obviously convince a judge. Quote Link to comment
huskernumerouno
Don't we have more pressing issues in this world than where someone was placed in a parade. I mean signing day is very near and that is alot more important than someones parade placement. Quote Link to comment

husker rob
maybe they should have been in the front of the parade, so the band members could trampel them and the floats could be driven over them Quote Link to comment
