Eric the Red
How rivalry became violent By Jay F. Marks Staff Writer The rancor in the Red River Rivalry apparently doesn't die between football or basketball seasons. An Oklahoma City man has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, accused of causing extensive damage to another man's scrotum just because he wore a University of Texas shirt into a local bar. Allen Michael Beckett, 53, has not been arrested on the felony charge, which was filed Monday in Oklahoma County District Court. It carries up to five years in prison if he is convicted. Beckett is accused of having launched a verbal attack on Brian Thomas when the other man walked into Henry Hudson's Pub at 3509 NW 58 on June 17, according to court documents. What happened Thomas said Beckett, whom he had never met, called him "everything under the sun” for wearing a Longhorns T-shirt into the bar. He said he and his friend sat at a table in the corner and tried to ignore the other man, but other man — who apparently is a University of Oklahoma fan — kept screaming at him. Thomas said he decided he'd had enough after about 20 minutes of Beckett's abuse so he went to the bar to pay his tab. When he turned around, he said Beckett grabbed his crotch and refused to let go. Thomas hit the other man several times before several bar patrons intervened, but Thomas said Beckett didn't let go until Thomas heard his scrotum tear and blood ran down his leg. Thomas, who grew up a Texas fan, said it took more than 60 stitches to close his wound. Two months later, he said he still is a lot of pain. The injury also caused Thomas to fall behind on his child support payments because he couldn't work. Beckett could not be reached for comment Wednesday by The Oklahoman. Quote Link to comment
HSKRNOKC
First off I know right where that HH pub is. The intimidation tactic sounds right . Most OU fans will try that if you let them. I cant beleive he tryed to rip the guys jewels off though. What the hell was Beckett thinking. Quote Link to comment

Axl_sued_me
Church Deacon, OU Fan Tears Scrotum Of UT Fan In Bar Fight OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a church deacon and University of Oklahoma Sooners fan after officials say he grabbed a University of Texas fan between the legs during a scuffle in an Oklahoma bar. A couple of months before the annual Red River Shootout between the Sooners and Longhorns, words were exchanged at Henry Hudson's Pub between Allen Beckett, 53, and Brian Thomas. Witnesses said it was because Thomas was wearing a UT T-shirt. Neither Thomas or Beckett chose to comment, but the police report described what happened to the victim, including graphic details about his injuries that included a torn scrotal sack with partially exposed testicles. Beckett's attorney, Billy Bock, said his client's actions were in self-defense. "Sure, he's an OU fan. Not necessarily an overboard die-hard OU fan, but he certainly admits he said something in a joking fashion to the guy about his Texas T-shirt. The guy got offended. He said he was sorry," said Bock. Bock said the apology apparently wasn't enough for the Texas fan and the man then approached his client. He said his client then grabbed the man in self-defense. "The guy came over his other shoulder, and basically said, 'I'm getting ready to kick your you-know-what.' He said he felt threatened and he did what he thought he needed to do and grabbed him and left the bar," said Bock. Bock adds that his client isn't a hardened criminal, but is a church deacon who makes his living as a government auditor who had gone to the bar that night for one reason -- to play darts. Spartness
Bars are not the best place to crack jokes to strangers. Some people with alcohol in their systems can get more than defensive. Quote Link to comment
Spartness
I didn't see the other thread on this. Sounds like there is more to it. Why do some guys get so bent out of shape over a football game? Quote Link to comment
