so why do you think they are wrong. It is like going to the high school reunion. The girls that were hot in high school are now dog ugly. Same with Nebraska IMO, they used to be good, but now, not so much. why do you consider Nebraska to be the hot job. If you are not from Nebraska or graduated from there, why would you have the desire to be a part of the football program. Serious question

Every time the thought, "Hey, I think I'll be an a-hole to somebody!" crosses your mind, do you just instantly decide to head over here and ask stupid, passive-aggressive questions? Serious question.

Like Deb said, look at Notre Dame. That coaching job will be an "elite" job from here until eternity because the tradition and funding behind that program will always fight to make it relevant. Nebraska is the same way.

If they are saying that we THINK we are a 10, but in reality are a 7, what must they then think of other schools who dominated for much of the 80's and 90's and who are now a little down?

Uhh....I think they would think those schools are also 7's that used to be 10's and still think of themselves as "10's"....and that LSU, Florida, Ohio State, USC are the true 10's of the last 5 years...

I really don't have that much of a problem with what he said...we think of ourselves as a "10"...our expectations are high...and right now calling us a "7" is pretty generous...

This crazy season..Most everybody's a "7"...

(7) was pretty generous if you're judging the program this past season..

Maybe even "Coyote ugly" or worse..a "Cougar" in that bar, reminiscing about how great we used to be.

But we'll be back if we can get the right plastic surgeon and take our Vitamins.

Recruiting to the Tundra may be our biggest obstacle, but our Walk-on program can be like our ground water (Ogallala Aquifer)...Hidden Resource.

Oh yeah..I almost forgot to end with...

If you are willing to do that, who am I to deny you?

i was asking the question because i want to know what the lure is. I am not from Nebraska, never went to the school, and am not a fan. I was asking a question on this board because you are all the authority on the subject. Sorry to get your panties in a twist. Maybe you should have a forum that fans of other teams can go to ask questions and participate in the forum rather than just hammer the sh#t out me every time i try get some info.

So you're telling me that you have decided to stop being condescending and were actually trying to "get some info?"

Any of you guys catch it this morning??

Eric somebody filling in for the other Mike, not Golic called Husker football the girl at the bar who thinks she's a 10 but really is only a 7.

And he also stated something to the effect that NU isn't a good job.

I think you must have to hate NU to work for ESPN.

So? I'll take the 7 in the bar over the 10 any day. They put out a hell of a lot quicker, cost me a lot less money and they don't nag or complain afterwards.

:rollin:rollin:rollin:rollin:rollin

:thumbs

Can always count on Cy to liven things up!!

Apparently it wasn't a serious question.

Think about it: We all love NU. We think it's a 10. From the perspective of the national media, though...they remember a coach who won 9 games get fired. Then they remember us running a guy out of town after 4 seasons. They don't know all the crap that we've seen from callahan.

In their mind, it's a good job...but with the program in disarray, they just think there are better jobs.

What makes a football program great? You need a combination of great fans, great facilities, a university that supports the program, solid tradition, the chance of continuing excellence or of returning to former excellence and the ability to recruit the players you need, which is a result of the combination of the rest of that list.

Nebraska has every one of those factors. What we did not have for four years is an AD and a head coach who were able to take advantage of those factors.

Maybe a better question would be, why would you NOT want to be a part of the Nebraska football program?

sorry, i was too busy untwisting Captain Obvious' panties...

Kids these days that are looking at colleges to play football do not remember or care about the old historic colleges with tradition...especially in the mid west. The real great football kids want a chance to play in the NFL, and right now, Nebraska is not that kind of program. They are looking at Florida and the players that dont get the scholarships from Florida are going to USF for the location and a chance to be part of something on the rise. USC is still a big draw and the Cals/Oregons of the football world are gaining in popularity. Ohio St/Mich/ND are recruiting great every year because they are either in the BCS spotlight or still have that something special about them that lures them in. I just dont see that Nebraska has that any more. Callahan ruined your program and it is going to take AT LEAST 4 years before you will see any improvement from that football program. Depending on the coach, it will take two years to get recruiting back in the right direction and another year or so to gain the young kids trust again in the institution and football program. Solich was what, 9-3 when he was fired, and people were really taken back by that. Then the whole Callahan fiasco...your program is broke and will not be fixed in a year. Kids want the sure thing and Nebraska right now is not.

Your whole point basically rests on what you want to happen, not reality. You have no idea of the condition of this program, the facilities it has to offer, or even a basic grasp of what happens on the recruiting circuit.

I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise - I see where that gets a person. All I can do is advise you to pay attention and learn. It'll do you good.

Your explanation is essentially that Nebraska can't recruit with other top teams in the country.

The problem is, that argument can't explain how we were able to bring in top recruiting classes the past several years. It's not because we've been immensely successful. We haven't been in the BCS spotlight in a long, long time, and still we competed with the top teams for recruits. The "old historic college with tradition" counts for something. So do great facilities and an immense, loyal fan base.

The problem to me doesn't seem to be getting kids to play for Nebraska, the problem is getting a coaching staff that can get them to play well.

Maybe you can make the case that the coaching change will hobble our recruiting for the next couple years. I can buy that. But to argue that we can't compete with Florida, USC, LSU, etc for recruits because we're not currently a "BCS spotlight program" is just inaccurate.

i beg to difer...i have an exceptional grasp on the recruit circuit. I am viewing this from an outsider, not a fan of the program. I think that fans of programs tend to over value their respective institutions. We are not going to convice each other, so i guess that is that

well, Notre Dame, for one, has brought in several top recruiting classes as well...and they dont look so hot to me. I believe that the "star rankings" in recruiting magazines is a bit off...so you must take with a grain of salt all the top school recruiting rankings IMO. So i dont care what the ranking say, but i will tell you USC, LSU and Florida have FAR BETTER players on their teams then Nebraska. If you cant see that, then your judgement is clouded by your fandom

For someone with such an exceptional grasp it's rediculous that you can argue Nebraska's problem is recruiting when we've brought in top recruiting classes every year. You're argument isn't flawed, your evidence is just plain false.
