They obviously just weren't chosen to do so. Exactly. While this is only my second post, I'm utterly amazed about how people fly off the handle.....even when they make assumptions that are not correct. For example, this whole notion about "I don't want Nebraska to return to the triple option". Folks, if you think Nebraska ran the triple option under Tom Osborne, you really need to step back. The handoff to the fullback was predetermined by the play-call. The option was to pitch to the tailback or keep, but not to the fullback. It has been speculated that Osborne experimented a little bit with the triple option toward the end, but it was never, ever a focal point of the offense. The fullback ripping off huge gains up the middle was a predetermined play, as evidenced by the pulling guard smashing the penetrating defensive tackle. They obviously just weren't chosen to do so. you are right, Universities are only allow 7 coaches off campus recruiting at a time, and with Osbourne out there that leaves 6 assistants available. I would want Busch, Watson, Gilmore for sure, now that leaves 3 spots. I am sure that Wyatt, Jordon and Rudolf will be better than Coz and Elmo anyway. Quote Link to comment

I dont really care for either Coz or Elmo, but they are getting paid & I think its bullsh#t that they're not out recruiting for NU. There are other assistants who know that theres probably a pretty good chance they wont get hired again once the new coach is hired but they're still out recruiting for Nebraska. As long as these 2 are getting paid, they should be out recruiting for Nebraska. IMO this is bullsh#t There can only be 7 coaches out recruiting at one time, these two (thank God) happened to be #8 & #9. GBR!!! Quote Link to comment

I am pretty sure that Osborne has only fired Callahan and it will be up to the new coach whether any of the assistants retain their jobs. They will stay on until then. No Deb, Zoogies is right. the coaches contracts stipulated that if the HC was terminated all the assistants were automatically terminated with him. TO asked the assistants to stay on and help with recruiting and most agreed to do so. Cosgrove 'wanted to spend time with his family'. They are allpaid through January of 2009 by contract. If they were talking to recruits, I'd be pissed. Let them go away in peace. Coaches get paid all the time for not doing anything (hell, I had a friend who was a financial advisor, and he got paid 9 months severence for not transferring). It happens all the time. godd2 Posted November 30, 2007 Share Posted November 30, 2007 since they are still getting paid i think that the university should have them go coach a kids flag football team...that way they can keep up with the game and maybe get a nice janitorial/JV junior high assistant coach gig when this is all over.
