Recruiting Class 08

Recommended Posts

Everyone needs to take a step back and take a deep breath, and realize that it will probably get worse before it gets better.

We have to remember that NU lost its coaching staff that this class committed to. The coaches knew that their time at NU was about over and basically stopped all communication with the commits, and there was no contact with them from NU for about 3 weeks.

Bo and Company have been trying their best in a very short time to do some damage control and it is going to take alot of work.

NU will lose some of the commits, because they have developed stonger relationships with other coaching staffs than they have with the Huskers.

There is some negative recruiting going on right now about Pelini's contract not being signed yet, him being a first time HC with a few unproven assistants.

LOI day is still 6 weeks away, and we are getting into the dead period. The coaching staff will bust their asses, in January to try and right the ship and make this class a respectible class

Until then, everyone back away from the ledge, but the gun down, put the pills away, put the knife back in the drawer, and take the noose off of your necks. The sun will rise again in Lincoln

oh yeah

The problem is the relationship building these recruits had with the previous staff had been going on for probably at least a year or two, if not longer. So I can see how the new coaching staff trying to develop relationships with these kids in a couple of weeks is a very tall if not an impossible order. And you have to figure that these recruits have had much longer relationships with coaches from the schools they recommited to. For example, the three who went to CU obviously have had much longer relationships with Dan Hawkins than they have had with Bo Pelini -- miles longer. So our staff is at a huge disadvantage. Let's hope the staff can keep at least half of the commitments and fill in the blanks with decent players. Hopefully the staff members who were coaching last season have develop relationships with a number of prospects.

As for Kuli, it appears like this is one of those cases where no matter who the coaching staff is, he wasn't gong to honor his commitment. You always have some who see greener pastors on the other side of the fence. You have to figure if B.C. had a successful season and was retained, we would have still losed four or five commitments.

I agree. If Pelini and Co. turn out to be fantastic coaches they still have alot to work with next season. We will be fine and everything will get better.
