This Stat Still Astounds me

Recommended Posts

I generally think of a monster defense when I think of Nebraska but then I think of this:

Since 1970 - Nebraska has only been held scoreless in TWO games!!!!

That's 37 years people....maybe 300 games....and to be held scoreless in only 2 games. It boggles the imagination.

Question of the day....name the years and the teams that held them scoreless

Bonus Question....How many times has Iowa State been shut out over the same 37 year time period?

Final Bonus Question....How many times has NU held their opponent scoreless over the past 30 years?

Hurray for Trivia

Ugh, ASU 19-0, 1996. I thought I had blocked that one out of my memory, but you had to go bring it up again.

Well here's the ISU NU series since 1970.

Also interesting NU has been shutout 99 times.

Arizona St in 96. How Many Safeties did that line giveup in that game?> Frost best pass that day was at the goalpost in frustration.

I actually cried when that game was played... I was sooo mad!!! I always thought that was as bad as it could ever get... BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

Thanks Ohio Pete for reminding me of my senior year drubbing (and junior, sophomore and freshman...anyone see a pattern here?) at the hands of Nebraska.... <_<

The ASU shut out was one of them....the other one took place probably long before I met any of your mothers so most of you weren't even born yet. Not a bowl game...but probably should have been.

Hell...I had to watch it on a black and white tv between trucks I was washing for my dad at his shop. Cold...my team lost...total suck day all around.

Two regular season games:

Oklahoma 0-27 in 1973

Arizona State 0-19, 1996

...and the loss to Miami in the Orange Bowl.

Iowa State has been shut out 12 time since 1970...7 of those at the hands of Nebraska.

Since 1970, Nebraska has shut out 49 foes

I shut the Orange Bowl out of my memory....so it doesn't count.

You're right...ISU has been shut out 12 times since 1970...another stat that astounds me considering all the seasons of lackluster offensive production....(the Cyclones also have shut out 15 teams since 1970...yet another "amazing to me" fact).

I have NU with 50 shut outs since 1970 but...since I can only count to 21 without having to borrow someone else's body parts...I may be off by one.

Hmm if I recall wasn't one the year we played ASU and they beat us 19-0? Was that 1996?

Don't recall other one
