BO knows BOnehead calls!

:dumdum I liked it when BO admitted that he got greedy and made a bone headed call for the fake kick. Just goes to show what a stand-up kind of guy he is. Just the kind of man to re-unite the Husker faithful. Would that call rank up there with the fake punt call (cotton bowl)that (he who shall not be named) made? Your thoughts.... :restore

Well, the worst thing about that call was we had just done that play 3 weeks earlier vs KU so you knew they would be prepared for it.

Ya can't run that play more than one time per year. If you're gonna fake a FG at least run a different looking play, though I guess Bo said that Henery was going to try and pass it.

We didn't really need to do a fake anyway just before half. Shoulda just kicked the FG--50 yds is no prob for Henery as it turns out.

Really messed up the momentum.

It wasn't that bad of a call, just really badly executed in my mind. By rule, with the kicker moving out of position to kick the ball, the holder had to have his knee off the ground - which he didn't. Play should have been blown dead at that point, whether it was successful or not.

If it had worked, everyone would be slapping Bo and the players on the back saying how great it was, but since it turned into the disaster that it was, it kind of made him look like a goat. Yeah, Bo is stand up, and admitted that he called the play. If it would have been BC it would have been about how poorly the players executed the play, not about how he probably shouldn't have called that particular play at that time...and if it had worked, it would have been all about BC's genius game plan and how they saw something in film...etc.

I think it also shows that the NCAA needs to seriously look at how the rules are being defined...either they are rules or their not. I didn't like the response given to ABC's commentators when they asked the officials or the NCAA about the "loose interpretation" that they allowed in one conferences officiating over another. The rules should be the same for everyone...and by the book.

Bo should have thrown the flag on that play and made them review it (knowing the rule of course) realizing that the holder still had his knee down on the ground. That touchdown by CU would have been reversed and called dead at that spot the holder got the ball. I don't know if Bo didn't see his knee was still down, didn't know the rule, or was just silenced by the official.

The officiating this year has really sucked. Too many missed calls in just about every game played. Video review was supposed to take care of some of this...but I am beginning to think you should be able to challenge a lot more of their calls such as penalties or a no call that is obvious to everyone in the stadium except the officiating crew for some reason...like the personal foul against Ganz on the sack. How the official is standing right there and missed that one is beyond me.

The call doesn't even begin to compare with BC's stupid fake punt from our own 28 that gave AU the ball on the 14. Not even close. Frankly, I didn't really have a problem with the fake field goal call. We had a lead and were well inside of CU territory (at the 33) and we were trying to build momentum. It would have been a 50 yard kick, and I don't think you generally want to put your kicker into situaitons like that unless you have to (like in the 4th haha).

In retrospect, I think I would have preferred that they just line up and go for it on 4th in that situation, especially considering how poorly executed the play was. You roll the dice on a play like that, and sometimes you lose. We botched the execution, CU had a little luck and made a phenomenal play. Shtuff happens. There were plenty of other things in that game that bothered me a lot more, like the two touchdowns we gave up early.

I think I may have gone for the 50 yard field goal or just punt and put CU back inside the 10 hopefully...then "inspire" the defense to get a turnover. Armchair QBing in retrospect really is a blast and all...but means nothing. Bo would have been a genius if he had pulled the play off a second time this season, as it was it looked like a bad decision. Who knows what would have happened if their player hadn't caught the ball in the air. Kicker could have dropped it, thrown an incomplete pass, or completed the pass for a 1st down or even a touchdown. We will never know. They had seen it on film...and were ready. They did a nice job.

CU was not lucky. They were totally prepared for that play having seen it on film.

I agree that they were ready for the fake, especially at that range. They'd prepared for it, and responded perfectly. That's what I meant when I mentioned them making a phenomenal play, but they did get lucky that the play went down the way it did, and that they were able to return it for a TD.

Everybody in the stands around me called that fake punt including myself. Everybody knew that we were going to run that play.......even the 5 year old sitting below me knew that it was coming. I didn't mind the fake punt but it put Colorado back into the game. Colorado was throwing a lot of trick plays in which I believe that they completed all 3. We tried a few trick plays like the weird RB pass that Castille didn't throw.

In retrospect, I would have preferred a fake punt at that distance to a fake field goal. If, that is, you're completely committed to a fake of some sort. Like I said before, In that situation on the 33, even with 7 yards to go, I think I would have rather just lined up and gone for it. I could totally understand punting it at that spot, even though I personally hate pooch punts hah.

This is why they thought it was a viable play. Ds will have been preparing for the run and not expecting a pass off of it. Of course I guess the scout team guys didn't run past the blocks quite as quick as CU did. A better option off that is for the holder to fake the pitch and then run to the left as most teams will be shading to the right there. Henery could at least slow down the guy off the edge. Wouldn't have been worse than what happened.

yeah, it could of just been a break up or something. Plus, technically they were supposed to call Wesch down by knee, but they are more liberal interpreting that particular play I guess.

Well, we've done a bunch of trickeration on the poor Puffs over the years, so you'd think they would finally stop one! :rollin
