Landlord
I have brought this up before, but there was never a conclusive decision to the best of my knowledge. Now I know that we used to have IRC chat and it got "advertised" for a while during gameday, but that faded out and I would like to rekindle thoughts on this. I really think that having an established IRC channel would help the Huskerboard community grow and continue to thrive, and I dont' just mean encouraging everyone to join up during a game, but to have people in there anytime they are able to get online (certain circumstances like work notwithstanding). I know there would be several people, myself included, who would be in the channel 24/7 idling when not around but still contributing to the numbers (it won't work if there aren't any people chatting whenever someone logs on) and it would be really easy to seamlessly integrate chat into the forums, making it an equal and standalone part of the Huskerboard experience! AR Husker Fan
Not sure if the new software will have a chat feature, but I suspect we'll hold off on anything until it's installed and we see what it can do. How about it, folks? How many would like a full-time chat capability? Quote Link to comment
Drowning_in_the_Sea_of_Red
I had a lot of fun on the old one for a couple of games. As long as there's a way to keep trolls out (maybe board members only or something?) I'm all for it. Quote Link to comment
Dundermifflinite
I remember the one we rocked during the 2007 coaching search. I'd roll with something like that again. Quote Link to comment
redout22
I have never seen one but Im game. Quote Link to comment
Dundermifflinite
BTW, whatever happened to the software upgrade thread that was stickied in the football forum? Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Could I have permission to make a thread in the football forum about chat (just general chat), encouraging people to get on for no real reason other than just chatting whenever they can? Quote Link to comment
Landlord
BUMP (not sure if there is something wrong with my cache but it's displaying the thread order weird).. Quote Link to comment
AR Husker Fan
Could I have permission to make a thread in the football forum about chat (just general chat), encouraging people to get on for no real reason other than just chatting whenever they can? Sure - we can leave it up for a while, and see if there are any takers. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Well it seems as if the chat page was deleted during the upgrade Quote Link to comment
Minnesota_husker
hmmm, chat functions can be fun, but also bad depending on how it is used.. that is same with everything tho Quote Link to comment
Landlord
I have been a part of three or four forum-based communities that have had fully implemented chat rooms, and I can say that in my experience it really adds a lot to the experience. Of course, you need to have it be controlled, whether that be mods or admins in chat or just having a bot that runs scripts for flood control and etc. On a second note, AR, if we do get this up and running and people take well to it, do you think it would be possible to actually install IRCd software?
