List home grown Nebraskans

Recommended Posts

Okay members. Create a list of the best Nebraska high school athletes of all time. It doens't matter the sport or gender. The player did not have to play at NU, Doane or Creighton, but had to attend high school in Nebraska. That's the major piece of criteria. (Council Bluffs does not count.)

For example, Eric Crouch, Cory Schlesinger, Gale Sayers, Brad Vering, Junior Bryant, Calvin Jones or Alex Gordan would work, but Tommie Frazier, Rulan Gardner, Jenna Cooper, Brenden Stai, Daren Erstad, Wade Boggs or Shane Komine does not.

Now many of the people I have listed here attended UNL. I simply don't know of many because I didn't grow up here in Nebraska.

Make sure the athlete attended a Nebraska High School. List the High school if possible.

How could you forgot Gale Sayers (Omaha Central). :wtf:thumbs

And Erick Strickland (Bellevue West??), who played both in the NBA, and minor league baseball.

I guess you would have to put Crouch (Millard North) in there since he did win the Heisman.

Dave Rimington (O South) who IMO, is the greatest player in NU history.

Dean Steinkuhler (Burr, NE) was pretty good.

ETR already listed Sayers and Crouch. :thumbs Strick did go to Bellevue West. And Duh, I should have remembered Rimington, my sister was friends with him in high school. :smokin

Don't forget the Novachek (sp) brothers Bump and Jay. In fact, I think maybe Bump still holds the pole vault record. Jay is probably a future Hall of Famer in the NFL. I believe they went to school in Holdrege?

I also like Connealy because he's from a small town in the Sandhills. I can't remember which town exactly but it was somewhere in the Panhandle.
