NamelessHusker
Nebraska went through its fourth day of preseason practice on Sunday afternoon under a hot August sun and temperatures in the lower 90s. Sunday marked the fourth consecutive day the temperature has increased for NU’s afternoon practice. The 2 ½-hour workout was conducted in half pads on the grass practices fields just outside Memorial Stadium. The heat figures to be turned up even more on Monday afternoon, when the Huskers put on full pads for the first time during training camp. Although Nebraska has worn shoulder pads the past two days, practicing in full pads adds another element, according to defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove. “We’ve really been aggressive and physical since practice started,” Cosgrove said. “But it is a little different when you add lower pads. It is a little easier to move around without pads on your legs.” Cosgrove commented on several aspects of the Nebraska defense following Sunday’s workout. He said he has been mixing up groupings in the linebacker corps and allowing several different players to work with the first and second units. Cosgrove also discussed the race to fill the Mike linebacker spot vacated by Barrett Ruud. “That is still wide open,” Cosgrove said. “The guys are really improving and I really like the competition at that spot.” Sophomore cornerback Tierre Green has also caught the eye of Nebraska defensive coaches. Cosgrove said Green appears to be settling in at defensive back after making the switch from offense last spring. “Tierre has done a tremendous job,” Cosgrove said. ‘I’m impressed by the strides he has made since last spring. He likes the position, he likes playing defensive back and he accepts coaching very well.” Huskers.com Quote Link to comment

How are the blackshirts looking?? Are they pretty dominate or what? Tell me we can at least kill the running game. Quote Link to comment
StuckinChicago
Killing the running game is the only thing we could do last year on defense, and we have lost very little in the way of depth on the front seven. We have to replace Ruud, which is tough, and Seivers, which isnt very tough, but other than that, we have some guys that can step up and stuff the run. Now a pass rush on the other hand....
